This song is absolutely iconic, as it introduced a darker, sexier, an edgier style to K-Pop. There is literally not a group which hasn't covered Mirotic. Literally from Monsta X to the rookie groups. The entire industry looks up to TVXQ. It helps that U-Know (the rapper) is a very supportive senior artist (that's a Korean, especially business expression. They have a word for "senior artists" who debuted first "sunbae:, or, even more officially "sunbaenim", basically meaning Mr. senior artist, it's a very respectful culture). Now, for some context, the original line "I got you under my skin" had to be changed to "I got you under my sky" for live show broadcasts (Idk if y'all know already, but, in K-Pop there are weekly music shows. 6 shows per week: The Show, Show Champion, MCountdown, Music Bank, Music Core and Inkigayo, some on national Korean TV stations, KBS and SBS, some on MBC, so, especially KBS and SBS have to abide by strict governmental regulation. It's loosened since that time ,however, many rules still remain.) It was really a risk for SM and them, but, they made themselves out into legends with Mirotic. One song I'd recommend by TVXQ is Catch Me. Only two members are featured in that song (U-Know and Changmin) because three members who later formed JYJ, left the company because of mistreatment (basically, they sued SM for holding them under a 13 year contract and won, ever since, artists could only be signed for 7 years.) But, their popularity didn't wane AT ALL. They're still releasing music. Changmin, whose stage name is Max recently released Chocolate, while U=Know did just a cinematic work of Art with Thank U in which he portrays a gangster.

JYJ will continue to be great also no matter what... I don't care what netizens say about them. Wishing them a mature comeback someday when Korea get some sense and stop ruining their own artist. They built wealth after leaving SME. JYJ, Return of the Kings was my favorite album by the group and WWW was my favorite album of Kim, Jaejoong... a member. Thanks.

I would add that DBSK/TVXQ were ground-breaking as far as their reach. At their height, they had the biggest fanclub in the world and they helped spread Kpop beyond the markets of China and Japan into Southest Asia, Europe and Latin America. BTS is amazing but forerunners like this group really helped pave the way for Kpop to get as big as it has for 3rd gen, 3.5 gen and 4th gen groups. JYJ also was one of the first to do a collab with a western artist when they worked with Kayne West after the group split following the infamous "slave contract" lawsuit.

Here is some background to help you understand the dynamics of TVXQ better. TVXQ (English and Chinese)/DBSK (Korean)/ Tohoshinki (Japanese), which each are the abbreviations/acronyms of the words in each language that translates to mean "Rising Gods of the East," debuted in 2003 as a 5 member group. But, in 2010 three of their members left SM Entertainment and the group and formed a new group called JYJ -- the initials of the members: Junsu, Yoochun and Jaejoong. (JYJ is still a group and they still produce music, but because they left SM Entertainment -- one of the most powerful and influential companies in the industry -- which made it more difficult for them to promote themselves and their music. So the members of JYJ are more known as actors and producers than they are as singers now.) However, Max/Changmin and U-Know/Yunho continued as TVXQ as a duo. This year will be TVXQ/DBSK/Tohoshinki's 18th anniversary, and even now as a duo they are so talented that they have the vocal range to cover all the parts of a song between the two of them, including rap. "Mirotic is a made up word that really has no meaning, but it is derived from a play on the word mirror + otic -- the title was originally supposed to be something like mirror but they thought the word sounded better if you added otic to the end of it, (it made it sound cooler, or something.) Think of it as the words mirror and exotic combined -- that's just how you pronounce the title, not the meaning of the word. "Mirotic," which came out in 2008 when they were still a 5 member group, is a classic in the Kpop world and every new rookie group -- both boy groups and girl groups -- learn this song and choreography and almost every rookie has performed it on music programs, award shows, at showcases, etc. at least once in their career. This song, like SHINee's "Ring Ding Dong," Girls Generation's "Gee" and Super Junior's "Sorry Sorry," etc. is pretty much compulsory for everyone in the entertainment industry to know and learn the song and dance to, no matter how young or old they are. In the MV for "Mirotic" the woman is supposed to be a siren, like from Greek mythology, and she is supposed to be tempting and trapping or luring the TVXQ members to her. Like they say in the song "... I got you under my skin ..." But in the end you see how the members have broke free from her control. (Often in Greek mythology the siren, through her intoxicating love powers, lures guys to their deaths.) Also, you should know, that the "red ocean" they are referring to in the song has a double meaning -- TVXQ's fandom is Cassiopeia and their fan color is red, so when you attend a TVXQ concert you will see an ocean of red. Welcome to the Cassiopeia fandom. If you like TVXQ then you are a Cassi. Yes, TVXQ truly are all-time legends in the music industry. As an SM Entertainment group, it is no surprise that TVXQ are outstanding vocalists. Being some of the best dancers and vocalists in the industry is what we have come to expect from all of SM's artists and groups. That's just a fact about the type of people SM selects to be a part of its company. Changmin (the youngest member) was 15 and U-Know was 17 years old when they debuted with TVXQ, so even though they are one of the senior Kpop groups, Changmin is only 32 and U-know is 34. TVXQ is SM's most senior group, but U-Know and Changmin are still younger than, or the same age as, many of the members of the legendary groups who came after them within their generation. They are best friends with Super Junior and they pretty much all grew up together. Changmin is known for his powerful high notes (even more powerful than Chen and Baekhyun from EXO), he literally has one of the widest note ranges of almost any Kpop artist. In a high note battle he always wins. Fun fact: Changmin is a newly wed, he just got married in September. U-Know is known for his dancing and his passion for dancing and singing. It might be hard to believe, but he is also the rapper of the group. (U-Know truly loves what he does and doesn't hide it. He will tell you he is proud of his accomplishments and he is proud of his work. His passion is kind of a running joke within the industry. Its one of the things he is most known for.) Like U-Know has said before, he and Changmin have lived together for so long that they know each other like an old married couple. They lived together for almost 15 years, if you count pre-debut days. The funny thing is personality-wise, Changmin and U-Know are complete opposites in almost every way. Changmin is quiet, calm and level headed and prefers to be alone; and U-Know is loud, high energy, intense and prefers to be with a group of people. Tohoshinki (TVXQ) are one of the most famous singers in Japan as well, even among Japanese artists. And like SHINee, they are so popular in Japan that they are considered part of the mainstream music scene. TVXQ has one of the biggest worldwide fan bases and they sell out some of the largest concert venues in the world. They are SM Entertainment's top selling group, easily selling out concert tours around the world. One of their more recent Japanese concert tours included 3 days at Nissan Stadium, and they sold out 230,000 tickets and earned $250 million (U.S.) in those 3 days alone.
@deblibra6884
@deblibra6884 3 года назад
Slight exaggeration. It was the usual big show SMTOWN TOUR the netted $250 million along with the entire SM line up.

@@deblibra6884 Yes, I know the SMTown concert you are referring to, and that is not the one I am talking about. The concert I am talking about is a TVXQ solo concert and it's been approximately 4 or 5 years ago. And I never said it wasn't a usual concert. I was just remarking about the fact that they are so popular that they attract large audiences and they are known as one of SM's biggest money makers because of their popularity.

When it comes to tvxq, ya gotta hear their classics. Wrong Number is another great one. They’re known for their acapella vocals, and they’re rnb kings, so you gotta give their song Tonight a listen some time. Mirotic only scratches the surface at these men, but it’s a good start ;) tvxq is a good way to get a feel what the first large wave of kpop looked and sounded like. Wonderfully nostalgic 💖💖💖 my very first obsession 🥺

thanks for reacting to TVXQ's MIROTIC! :) that song was actually released in 2008. it's a very iconic song for TVXQ too because they released that song at the peak of their careers. the song has since been covered by countless idols and fans. /everyone/ knows the fan chants to this song and you can't help but join in whenever you hear it. TVXQ was actually a quintet, from 2003-2009 and now they're a duo (from 2011 to present). they are also active in Japan and are known as Tohoshinki (東方神起). they're highly respected in both korea and japan for their amazing live performances and for being veterans in the industry for 18 years. you guys should check out their other songs like Rising Sun, "O"-正.反.合., Purple Line (from when they were a quintet) and Keep Your Head Down, Catch Me, Humanoids, Something, Spellbound, The Chance of Love, Loveline, Truth (from when they became a duo). TVXQ's members, U-know Yunho and Max Changmin also have solo work as well. Chocolate is Max Changmin's song (check out his EP too, he's a power vocalist). U-know Yunho's solo work include: Champagne, Drop, Follow, Thank U, Loco, and Eeny Meany (honestly, you guys should check out U-know's latest EP cause the entire album is amazing!) "MIROTIC" is actually an invented word. "Mirotic" is a coined term, created by former member Hero Jaejoong, that combines the Korean miro (미로), meaning "maze", and the English suffix "-tic".

TVXQ! (Previously known also as DBSK "The Gods of The East") and Tohoshinki in Japan are legends. Them and BOA were the ones that revived kpop and expanded it to the rest of Asia. TVXQ! Was originally an Acapella group and I think to this day there isn't a group with that level of vocal talent. Fun fact: They debuted on a presentation with Britney Spears. They were very diverse and they were the ones that have an edgier sound to the genre. Originally a group of five, they're currently active as a duo. As five I would recommend Rising Sun, Purple Line, Wrong Number and the live performance of Love in The Ice. As a duo they now have a more mature sound with a jazzy feel to it. Some of their best tracks are Keep Your Head Down, Before U Go, The Chance of Love, Truth and Something. They also have solo tracks like Chocolate by MAX Changmin and Thank You by Yunho. I'm glad you're reacting to 2nd Generation older kpop, please react to Hot Times by SM the Ballad it's s total vocal showdown eargasm.

1) They were incredibly popular back then. The fan club was rumored to be the largest, ever, with hundreds of thousands of members. 2) They are still together, but now as a duo, instead of a quintet. Long, ugly story. It wasn't anything between the members, but the three who would leave and the SM label. 3) The song is actually called "The Game" (Jumon). The Anglicazation of it is Mirotic, which is a cross-cultural portmanteau between Miroh (Korean for "maze") and Erotic, which is obvious. The song itself is about being trapped in a relationship that is bad for you and the game being played between the guy and his woman as they keep trying to escape, but can't seem to find a way out. It's really an interesting song, not only for how groundbreaking it was in its content but also because not many had the vocal chops to pull of this arrangement. TVXQ and BoA were the first really--really--big vocal powerhouses for SM. SM is a jerk company (again, a long story), but nobody, and I mean NOBODY, can touch them when it comes to finding and developing vocal talent. Nobody who gets to record for their label sucks at vocals, not even the rappers, who can at least carry a tune without embarrassing anyone. I do think that the song which really tore down the barriers about adult themes even more than this one was "Abracadabra" by Brown Eyed GIrls, which makes "Mirotic" look tame in comparison--especially the differences between the videos. Still, this one put the first big cracks in that glass wall between what was said and meant about sexuality, so that Brown Eyed Girls could shatter it to dust less than a year later. KPop has NOT been the same since this era.

FYI: The high note hit at the end of 'MIROTIC' is sung by Max Changmin. Just to give you an idea of the ability of these singers, Max's vocal range is A2 ~ C6, with his supported range being D3/Eb3 ~ E4/F4. To compare that: Whitney Houston's vocal range is ALSO A2 ~ C6.

They sound amazing with music and even more acapella, which they’re originally formed about. DB5K’s popularity back then was enormous, that they were in the Guinness Book of World Records for being the most photographed celebrities in the world at the time and they had the largest fan club! Fredo will probably appreciate Before U Go, being an R&B guy. Something, Spelbound, Love Line, The Chance of Love...

Two vocalists stand out here, Jaejoong and Junsu. Jaejoong went to sing rock and Japanese, and Junsu is now a musical actor. Junsu's voice is unmatched in the Korean industry. His belts are out of this friggin world :)

Continued. While the other two members Yunho and Changmin remained as TVXQ. It's a sad story as these five guys together were super talented. You should also check out the groups individually but it seems because of some scandals JYJ may no longer be a group. Check out TVXQ Spellbound, a song I recommended before. Junsu and Jaejoong also have solo projects.

TVXQ is the first group that I stan and brought me into kpop around 2007-2008. Of course there were Boa and JTL - My Lecon which so iconic before but TVXQ song sounds different at that time, so trendy, experimental but acceptable (at least for my ears) You gotta try Rising Sun and their acapella compilation Each members can sing, dance, and rap well They're still active both in Japan and South Korea. But due internal issue, they're split and only 2 members under name TVXQ If you react to TVXQ champagne, you'll find fetus nct maknae jisung there when he was 12

You are right by saying this feels nostalgic to some I am happy to be one of them it was around 2009 I started reactting to kpop and since this song was in 2008 it was one of the songs that made me stuck to kpop for this long. Also I am thankfull to TVXQ and Shinee for getting me dive more into korean culture too as a person who loves to get to know different culture from all around the world.But I am sad that only max and uknow are the only remaining members Yoochun, Jaejoong and Junsu were banned from being on korean TV shows to promote their songs and now Yoochun,espicially Jaejoong are well known actors in korea.

I have listened to this song thousands and thousands of times. I became a K-Pop fan in 2008 or early 2009, so I still remember when this song came out. But I actually never wondered of its meaning. Now I see it and I have a theory from a psychological (Jungian) perspective. I think that the female here represents the anima archetype, the unconscious feminine self of every man. (There's lots of anima figures in almost every fiction, mythology and even religion). Anima looks dangerous and tempting to the man whose personality is based solely on rationality, since anima itself is the irrational. If a man is the order, an anima (or a woman) is the chaos. It's chaotic, but for a man it's like his own reflection in the mirror. Mirror + chaotic = MIROTIC. The figure is literally "under their skin". So you are pretty accurate by saying "Or maybe she went up inside of them". The anima makes a man to break the rules of the ordinary to seek for extraordinary. Once a man is united with his anima (in analytical psychology we sometimes call it "marriage" or "conjunction"), this man overcomes his metamorphosis. (I think it's even mentioned in the lyrics) It's his individual development. Anima figure often appears in your dreams. So if either of you ever saw a dream with an unknown woman that you were kinda attracted to, it's your anima figure. (I do dream analysis, btw :D) Sometimes it's a projection, so it takes a form of someone you know in real life (for example, your significant other). With this song, that would be an analysis from a male perspective. If we analyzed this song from a female perspective, we would identify ourselves with the woman in the music video, while the members would represent our animus (woman's unconscious masculine self).

Mirotic is definitely an iconic song in the KPop industry. Until now more than 10 years after its release, rookie groups are still making covers of it. Never thought you'd react to it. Before NCT esp 127, the only KPop group I became a fan of was TVXQ. They are legends in the industry. In 2003 when they debuted as 5 members, South Korea was more into solo artists like Rain, Se7en so when they debuted and became really popular, idol groups became a trend in SK again. They also opened Hallyu wave in Japan. So in a way, you can say they saved the industry.

Mirotic is like South koreas national anthem. There is not a single Korean who doesn't know the song or the fanchants to the songs. And even tvxq is to this date one of the most popular and most legendary artist. They broke World records before stuff like RU-vid Facebook and Twitter even existed. Without tvxq there would be no Bts / no nct nothing.. Cuz they paved the way and inspired those kids to become artists

Wow, this is rare to see anyone react the really iconic kpop. That is the best era for me and i been grown up watching and listening to them and they make i youth better. You gonna love it so much and you gonna missed it cause it really really different from the new generation. But i didn't said that i didn't like it the new generation, it just that i treasure the old songs and you never gonna imagine how nostalgic this feeling is. When i 20 and found again the song and i was like this is my jamm man, i really missed this era so much hope that you can react more about kpop back to 2000.... by the way, i always love you video and can you react to SPEED this group is really good and i want to know your opinion about it please react to them it's boy group.

THE BEST kpop song ever. (My opinion) Not only is this song legendary, but the group itself. They are considered the Kings/Legends of Kpop, even by other kpop groups. They are the group who other idols grew up watching. Their name is literally The Rising Kings of the East. I consider myself a veteran kpop fan. They are the reason I fell into the rabbit hole. I’m so glad you did a throw back. Most reactors don’t watch old kpop. This made me happy. Also even my profile picture is of them. I haven’t changed my profile picture in years. Just giving you an idea of how much I love them, even if the group split up. Please give them a listen as well as the other group JYJ.
