A compilation of all the best bits from the XFM days highlighting the ludicrous tales Karl has told over the years. Took a break and just mushed the other parts together..for the fans.
Sometimes i think its a small miracle that Ricky Gervais of all people met karl Not just because hes funny beyond belief but also that Ricky is probably the only person in the world who can speak to him in certain ways and get the very best of his Karl moments out of him
No the most perfect moment is when karl was right about the lighthouse light being off during the day and steve coming to his rescue followed by his triumphant scream
"...never saw the man 'ole cover again!" Is the bit that kills me every time. Perfectly sums up Karl's ability to find the most ordinary story inexplicable or supernatural.
This is not a radio show. It is the televised slow breakdown of Ricky Gervais' mind as his unstoppably stubborn inquisitive nature tries to penetrate the mind of Karl Pilkington. He bashes his head against Karl's in a futile attempt to understand and is eventually driven quite literally to the breaking point. If you listened to XFM back in the day, over the course of time you could actually hear the wear and tear on Ricky's mind. He was slowly losing it. He was just getting increasingly more and more aggravated by every single thing Karl said. It was the most pure form of art we will ever see.
deborahmpa1 I'd compare it to transcendental meditation for comedy fans....I'll set an 9 hour Playlist so I know it's still on when I wake up. ;) Seasons 1-3 of XFM I've probably cycled through 50 times each. It's therapeutic. I've even got some Audible Downloads on my phone for on-the-go situations.
They often mention their failure to win radio awards and critical acclaim with this show, and receive "constructive criticism" from other radio personalities of the time. Nearly 15 years on do those others enjoy the same success and cult following as these three? This particular brand of absolute twaddle doesn't date very much. If it were more factual, satirical or politically relevant it would have been forgotten by now.
I love it when moments like 1:25:55 occur. I love it when Karl says something and Steve just gives out a sort of high pitch squeak meanwhile i can imagine Ricky is just sat next to him looking at karl thinking "What the fuck is this twaddle" hahaha
You're not alone. I fell in love with the podcasts and radio shows because I felt like I was part of their stupid conversations. As you said it kept the loneliness at bay.
I still come back to these clips all these years later, I often used to listen to the podcasts in the gym or on the train and get the dodgiest looks for laughing to myself!
I discovered this whole body of work when I was going through a dull, down, skint, rubbish period in my life - but these three kept me cheered up all the way through it. Now things are great for me, and one of the reasons why is stuff like this compilation. I salute you boys.
I love that Karl's basis on the hairy Chinese kid being weird wasn't that he was absurdly hairy for not only a person but a child, but that he was hairy for a Chinese person. Also the idea that people in China were thinking like Karl and going "boy we're normally not that hairy! How weird is that?"
I know that xfm is done and finished but I actually listen to this so much. I listen to These podcasts at work and even when I'm in bed trying to sleep. Good stuff man, old material never gets old.
Still listen to these 3 everyday! Wish they would sit down together again and make some more about all the technology that’s came out and being designed
This is the best video on the internet. BTW thanks a lot for uploading all these compilations. I downloaded ALL the podcasts/radio shows, but love hearing the 'best bits' despite most of the shows being golden!
You're absolutely brilliant. Not many of my friends share my love for karl so I can't share this but I will subscribe. Please keep making compilations ! They are amazing "
My favourite thing about the execution stories is that Karl proclaims there to have been the same number of steps as there were blinks in the first story: 32.
Same. I downloaded every single one of their podcasts. XFM, Ricky Gervais Show, specials, guides, etc. I just have it on repeat on itunes. It just makes you feel better.
Lots of negative comments about Ricky, some true but in the end should be all forgiven. Just the fact that he worked really hard to bring Orange headed in comedy scene is worth all forgivenes. And also worth mentioning this show isnt funny just becouse of Karl they all contribute in correct way to make it exagurated and great.
Also, This is one of few things that can almost ALWAYS lift me mood, if im feling down this will normaly cheer me up, not because of how bloody funny it is, but because Ricky has such a dirty infectious laugh.
