Oooh your cardigan is going to be amazing. Using all your scraps to make this amazing cardi is a brilliant idea. It's looking fab so far - I'm loving all your colours and how you picked your colours. I have lots of scraps and minis too! Funnily enough my cast on #8, started yesterday, is a Snap hat using lots of scraps!

So excited to see your start on the Garter Marler cardigan! I love the idea of playing around with precious scraps to make something new and beautiful. I am not very good at being random but I saw that one knitter used dice to decide colours for her cardigan (StillHisAngel on Ravelry), so maybe I could try that whenever I get started on mine. It’s been very cold here-we got as low as -29c/-20f. Today it “warmed up” to -9c but we have six inches of new snowfall as well. Good weather for staying inside with all things woolly. That cardigan is going to be gorgeous…but PLEASE sew in the ends 😱 I am nearly at the end of my second waffle sock and hope to get that finished before the end of January, and also cat on another pair o socks. My mitred square blanket is coming along nicely too. So, I might make it to 3 cast ons, which is good for me!! Jinny

I love the red wall behind you!! Oh, you might want to make your scrap cardigan with the magic yarn ball technique. Helps with the randomness and saves a lot of decision time.

Hi Ange, yesterday was my 7th cast on, I'm pushing myself, I'm making my 1st full Fair Isle hat, it's the Buggaflooer from last years Shetland Wool week, it took me hours just to do the ribbing but I loved it😃 today is my 8th cast on, it's the Diddly Baby Socks, I've made this pattern so much over the years, this time I'm making them for our grandchild in bright purple, mummys favourite colour🧦 My 9th and last cast on is going to be a skrabucket with my scraps. I've got a lot, nothing like your leftovers though, your cardy looks gorgeous, your blending is always so good🤩 Stay safe Xx

I have been trying for years to get my scraps under control. I love how your bits and pieces are coming together. I wasn't expecting to cast on much, but an old friend who I designed some fingerless mitts for over 20 years contacted me yesterday. Their puppy ate one of them and they were hoping I could make another pair. Luckily, I still have my notebook from back then and I've cast on a replacement pair for them. And they specifically asked for them to be made with lots of colorful leftover yarn!

Hi Ange. Hope all ok. Absolutely love the new cast on. It's definitely going to be a unique piece, super squishy. Just up my street. My newest cast on is a cozy classic light. Doing the short rows at the min. Using the karoo sock, a merino and mohair base. The colourway is bower, a rust and grey heavy speckle. Had a request for some socks today. Hope it's not too cold in Wales. We had quite a lot of snow yesterday. It was mostly gone today but very cold . Xx💕🌈

That is gorgeous! And now I want one! I’ve stopped discussing cast ons with friends….. except all those friendly crazy people over on Ravelry! I’ve cast on 11 and had to order yarn for the twelfth! So much for not buying yarn this year. My most recent cast on is a brioche cowl! Knit on my crazy friend!

Yes, Cardis are the way to go when you are in the office! I keep one in my office year round because the AC gets kind of cold when you are wearing sleeveless shirts. All those bits and bobs will make a lovely cardigan! What a fun project you've come up with! Loving the Emma Ball prints. I wasn't planning on casting on, either. Then Ohio got really cold (like -6C to -12C) and me with no handknit mittens, so I had to cast on. I also cast on a pair of legwarmers for my granddaughters. They are about the same size, so I'll get two pair to them now, and maybe two pair in the fall. But for tonight, I'm concentrating on my Christmas Eve (2019) cast on!

Since I last commented, I've cast on two more projects, which brings me to five new cast ons and twelve wips in total, which is enough for me. I cast on the Fairy Ring Cardigan, which I got as a kit for Christmas. I was glad to have the cast on party as motivation to get started with this one, it was intimidating me. Although the scary bit is really the steeking, which I wont get to for ages. My last cast on was a Crown-Shy Beanie, which I've been very motivated to get on with in this cold snap. I probably would have finished it today, but I lost at yarn chicken half way through the crown decreases. I'm loving your cardigan so far! I think that pattern may be going in my queue... I could also take 900g of fingering weight yarn from my leftovers without making much of an impact. Meda

Ooh that does look fun - you’ve got me thinking. Yes, you are definitely not alone with your scrap quantity. Can you go through all 12 cast on projects at the end of the 12 cast ons? Would love a reminder. Also, please tell us what you’re wearing - the green jumper today looked interesting. Thanks for the fun.

Been really enjoying these. I cast on 12, including 3 pairs of socks, 4 cowls, 2 sweaters, 2 shawls, 1 hat!

I’ve cast on a which way fillet baby blanket, and an intarasia sock. I also plan to make several soap sack that will be donated to the homeless shelters in my area. I may be inspired to cast on a marked cardi as well!

I've finished the hot water bottle cover, and am LOVING using my hot water bottle during the polar vortex that moved down over Canada. I have cast on a simple tee to use my advent yarn calendar - hand knitting the ribbing, then using a vintage knitting machine to knit the stockinette - still learning how to use a knitting machine! I have a lot of sock yarn leftovers too - I don't want to commit to a full scrappy blanket yet, so I'm going to try knitting the Textured Stripe Scrappy Hat by Sarah Schira next.

Oooh pretty!! 🌈 I am considering starting a couple more projects, but I'm having trouble choosing them. I want to make a colourwork jumper, but need yarn. I have some handspun yarn waiting to be wound up for a brioche headband. Plus about half a dozen more. Guess we'll all be surprised what gets started.

Getting ready for Spin Together. New skirting table almost done!!! Today I should hackle some fiber, then again maybe work on my Musselbourg hat as I planned another,lol Maybe work on my Great Granddaughter 's Temperature blanket 😂

Finally started casting on, I have cast on a Handspun Rift, a weekender and started a spin for a traveler shawl. Hoping there will be a couple more before the end of the month

Hi Ange! Long time! While I am not joining you for this year's cast-ons, I enjoy watching yours. I had surgery on December 20 and am still recuperating at home. Unfortunately one of the incisions is infected and I'm on my second round of antibiotics. So I haven't been feeling well many days. When I am, I finished one pair of socks and have worked on a couple others. Also working on my Boxy that I cast-on in December 2020...also been working on my Dissent sweater, that yoke is taking forever! Like you, I don't mind a lot of projects, but it's getting to the point where I have piles of them everywhere. Gotta start reducing those piles! I hope to do an update video soon, but it still may be a couple of weeks.

I actually did start a project last week. A new Musselburgh hat. I had to put my other on hold so I could make the hat; my current hat only goes to my earlobes and doesn't fold up at all. But this counts as a 12 Cast-ons! 😅😂
