Im still here for it. Glad we didnt have to wait as long since the last song. The yellow in this whole album is the symbol of the banditos and a symbol of hope. The figure on the horse is nico. One of the nine bishops. Nico is his bishop that keeps trying to drag him back to a place called Dema. The black he puts on his throat is to control his voice. The black you'll see on his hands is control his creativity so he cant write. All representing his insecurities. The car is the same car from heavy dirty soul. On the trench album, jumpsuit ends and levitate begins without any break. Keep going with any and all songs. Might as well just do the entire album now and get it over with cause you know you need to, you know you want to. GET IT!

There’s an order you should have done, Heavydirtysoul, Jumpsuit, Nico and the Niners, then Levitate. There’s a lot of lore and symbology to the guy in red and the guys with the yellow. Guy in red is a bishop and the other guys are Bandito’s. There’s a lot to their music and symbolism.

Yesss. Thanks for doing another one! The colour yellow on Trench symbolizes hope. In the video, the banditos are throwing yellow flower petals to let Tyler know he shouldn’t give up; the banditos are going to help him escape Dema and the bishop (dude on the horse), symbolizes his depression and insecurities. The bishop smears black muck on his neck which symbolizes his insecurities about his voice and writing good lyrics. It goes way deeper than this but that’s it in a nutshell. The video was shot in Iceland There is a big backstory behind these videos and the entire Trench album - you can do research on the city of Dema in the Trench album and there's tons of info out there on it Very briefly, the city of Dema is basically a metaphor for your mind - so to escape the city of Dema would be to conquer your fears, insecurities. Etc - the city is guarded by the red robed figures, bishops, - there are 9 of them and their job is to make sure you stay in the city and they control all your thoughts, etc - in this video Tyler is outside the city and you see the bishop coming to get him to bring him back - Nico and the Niners is the next video where Tyler wakes up in the city and tries to escape again- its a constant battle of trying to get out of the city (aka defeat your mental battles) The people in yellow are the Banditos - they are there to offer support and help escape, but Tyler ultimately has to make the decision himself to leave - the color yellow represents hope

One thing I love about TØP is you can certainly enjoy their music and creativity on the surface level, but they put a lot of thought into how everything ties together, even across their albums. Nearly everything is intentional, especially the symbolism with colors. So you can dig deeper and start peeling back the layers. It’s a fun rabbit hole to dive into. 😼 The Blurryface album/era was focused on the personification of Tyler’s insecurities, anxiety, and internal struggles in the character of Blurryface. It focused on the duality within us - holding up a mirror to the parts of ourselves that we want to suppress. I would recommend watching heavydirtysoul. It sets the stage for Trench. They took a long break (which is why he said “we’ve been here the whole time. You’ve been asleep. Time to wake up” at the beginning). Tyler created a world in Trench where he could jump in and explore the different facets of his struggles. The red ties back to Blurryface, aka Nico, who is one of the Bishops that controls the walled city of Dema. It’s a dystopian city reminiscent of Orwell’s 1984, devoid of color and hope. Nico came to take Tyler back to Dema. Yellow represents hope and the Banditos, a rebel group led by Josh (the drummer) who you saw looking down at the end of Jumpsuit. In this video all they could do is let Tyler know they were there for him. When someone is struggling with depression or other mental health issues, sometimes that is all family and friends can do, is let the person know they are there. And the yellow petals were their way of offering him encouragement to break away from the control of Nico. You should watch Nico and the Niners next 😼 You will see the walled city of Dema, the Bishops, and Josh and the Banditos come to rescue Tyler. And that leads to the video for Levitate, which you may appreciate more after watching the other videos.

The difference in the sound becomes from the fact that Tyler was not producing the Trench album alone, he had a co-producer, Paul Meany with him. (Mutemath).

Another really fantastic video. You have really good instinct with the underlying message. I'm surprised you haven't looked into the back story to twenty one pilots already. I don't really thing you need to because you are connecting the dots very well. I will say that as the band has grown the message has naturally evolved Tyler use to sing in a more singular sense and now has change his vocabulary to be more open/ inviting to his community as if speaking for not just himself but for all those who are with him on this journey. I think you understand.

TOPs ability to create a whole universe and cast of characters spaning album cycles is crazy.. When you said I think there is a story here I was like..gulp 🤣 If your interested in it, you should watch a RU-vid video about dema, because I think it's hard to fully grasp from comments But even if you don't I think they do a pretty good job of portraying the feeling through the songs and videos. 😁

Excited to hear your thoughts on the rest of the album. These videos represents tyler's struggles with mental health and how it is a constant cycle of falling down and getting back up and trying again. They also show how Tyler uses his music to fight against it. He is asking for protection from something he fears 'cover me' and says he'll give in to dark thoughts 'I'll be be right there...I'll stop my plans' but only if they stop him making music first 'break both my hands....grab my throat and lift me in the air'. This album is telling the story of the world Tyler created: In this video Tyler has escaped from Dema (a city ruled by 9 bishops, also referred to as Nico and the Niners, which represents being trapped in mental health struggles) into Trench (name of the album and the place in between Dema and safety, represeted by the colour green) but is being chased by Blurryface/Nico (represented by the colour red) who uses Tyler's insecurities to bring him under his control again as he leads him back. When Nico is controlling Tyler he puts black paint on his neck and hands (feels most insecure about the music he makes with his hands and the words he says). The banditos (rebels who have already escaped Dema and who represent Tyler's support system, including bandmate josh) throw him yellow flowers (the bishops can't see the colour yellow so it is a symbol of resistance and alliance to the rebels), which give him hope and motivate him to run away from Nico but he ends up tripping and is captured again. Sorry that's a lot of info!

21 pilots is a great band, no doubt! However, I think you’ve missed the greatest part about them. Starting from the Blurryface album, they began to develop a whole backstory and lore that gave new meaning to all these songs. Almost all of these songs have meaning individually but they have a deeper meaning collectively and begin to tell a another story. For me to explain it in this comment would be too much so I’ll give you a link to check out and you’ll get the bigger picture. However, there will be snippets of other songs you haven’t listened to!
