Hey, you should watch these videos chronologically, that is : Heavydirtysoul -> Jumpsuit -> Nico And The Niners -> Levitate and then you probably get it because Tyler created fictional city Dema and wrote whole story about it. According to the one of the theories Dema represents depression and is ruled by bishops who don't want Tyler to run away. Josh ( the drummer ) tries to help him with other banditos ( rebels ). The color for the trench era is yellow which symbolizes hope.

Levitate, rise above. Tyler can levitate out of the Trench which in process of healing, and he can levitate with just a little help from his friends and family. He has talked extensively about how his dark thoughts tend to come at night for him. Cowards only come through when everyone's asleep. When he was captured and dragged by his throat at the end , and people sitting next to him did nothing to stop Tyler from being dragged away. This kinda shows how people can slip into depression right in front of you and you will never notice it. Always check on your family and friends to see how they are doing. To use their lyrics, "it's not the speakers that bump hearts, but the hearts that make a beat!" Their songs tell a story. I used to be able to just listen to their music and enjoy the music and beats. Now, as someone who struggles with mental issues it all became so much deeper and it all just clicked. Now they are my number one. Now the lyrics are what get me. His battles with depression and dark thoughts. He's not afraid to bring them to light. They can be serious lyrics but with a happy beat. Their music is my therapy. The songs don't sink me deeper, they pull me up.

Love your TOP reactions, im watching them all. There is a TON of lore behind TOP. The person who took Tyler is called Nico. He is a bishop, I believe there are 9 bishops. Trench videos can be watched in a certain order for the story to make sense. There is a whole world they created about DEMA.

This video is a part of a music video trilogy and overall storyline behind their music - not sure who told you to dive into this song but they probably aren't big twenty one pilots fans - there's no way the song/video made any sense to you but that's not your fault!

I left my other comment before finishing the reaction, so as a big twenty one pilots fan I see some love trench album and this song specifically for the rapping. I enjoy it for the video part too and how it plays with the lore as mentioned in my other comment. I do have all the albums and listen pretty regularly and so far I don’t skip songs, so I do listen to levitate often. Of course there’s some songs I might play a few times in a row. As a fan, or better known as a skeleton clikkie, I love twenty one pilots for multiple reasons. The lyrics first because of the subject matter of many songs. Tyler’s voice especially when he screams, my favorite screaming song is a song he did before twenty one pilots, from his album no phun intended , the song is called Save. For lyrics my favorites are probably migraine and guns for hands, live songs my favorites are car radio, holding onto you and trees. For videos I love fairly local, goner, the outside , jumpsuit. I could go on n on. But you get the idea lol

I really understand what you say... the same happened to me with "Levitate" ... BUT it´s a completely different matter when you listen to it in the context of "Trench" the full album and, again all the narrative behind... it is part of a trylogy... (al least) Thanks for this reaction!!

So funny! Your reaction. Jumpsuit, Levitate, Nico and the Miners. Really the "Trench" album play together like a story. There is a story. It's an entire backstory, a mythology unique onto themselves. Like an inside story beyond the songs.

Love the rhythm of this song. Also love the lyrics, it's possible that I'm more invested with knowing the full context of the story and all the lore behind it though. This is also the only song they have done that is all rap, so I kinda appreciate it for that. I love the weird sounds in the background and overall eerie feel.

You’ve been informed already this is part of a series of videos that tell a story deeply connected to this bands lore so watch it that way In regards to just the song this continues straight out of the previous song on the album & is much better listened to in order. It also contains many throw backs & references to older songs such as cat radio & the lore around the album Trench

I really like your analysis. I'm guessing someone already told you, but TwentyOnePilots have this theme of portraying Tylers dark thoughts and his depression. It seems to me they're switching style and genre of the song to adapt to the idea of the song. That is in my opinion also the fact, why they don't fit in just one genre only. And for the TRENCH album, this is the first album where DEMA and Nico and the Niners appear. They introduced Blurryface in the album before, but the storytelling and concept behind TRENCH is on another level.

This video is definitely better as part of the Trench story once you understand it, but I do agree with you that as a song it's one of my least favorite TØP songs. I like Tyler's rapping normally, but this one just kind of feels like it's all on one level which is very unusual for TØP. Not a lot of variety.
