Rabbit I’m 21 and have had my dealers license for over a year now, and it’s been really tough. You have no idea how much this video means to me. Thank you!
Stick with it! The market may be tough, but find your niche and stick with it until it becomes your specialty. For some it may be trucks, for others it’s student cars for under $2k.
I wish Rob, or I, could remember where/how we met the first time. We bumped into each other in Charlotte a few years later, had some awesome conversation, and I wish we'd have stayed in touch. He had a genuine way about him, which is ungodly rare nowadays. In just a 20 minute conversation back then, he made me feel like I'd made a friend... and he wasn't selling anything (aside from himself). Thanks to Rob/"Rabbit" and RU-vid, we'll always these clips of his one-of-one candor. Have a good one, Rob 🫡
I agree. Rabbit's personality and ability to tell a story with detail is awesome. Im not crazy about the vinwiki channel. but glad I i did cause it led to me finding this channel 1-2 years ago. GREAT CONTENT and Genuine
Great advice. I'd advise a 20 yr old to be self employed as soon as possible. Don't borrow money for depreciating assets like cars. Live below your means. Remember that poor people are always trying to appear rich. Pay yourself first (savings, retirement, training, or invest in a business). Finally, you become who you hang out with.
Some more great advice. I know it makes me a jerk, but I’m kinda glad things worked out the way they did for you. Instead of sitting on that nice beach right now, you’re sharing great stories and passing wisdom on to thousands of people. I, for one, am glad it worked out this way. Thanks for the video.
Like always, Rabbit hits us with some good advice! I did the same thing starting out at 19. Made the same mistakes lol. But don’t be afraid to make mistakes, because those become valuable lessons.
When I was 20 I worked in a metal shop as a welder. Great paying job as a kid. I didn't even have the smarts to buy a house. Instead I rented the biggest house I could afford and lived paycheck to paycheck making 50 thousand a year. 2 years late the company that I had sold my soul to let me go due to an injury requiring surgery. I decided right then that I was going to do something different and be my own boss. I started my real estate career and have never looked back, I haven't made 50 thousand a year in real estate yet. (Going on my second year.) But I have so much more financial freedom because I manage it better. I own a house. I've eliminated most of my debt. And most importantly, I am truly happy. I make my own hours. I get to be home with my wife and daughter and provide for us. Thanks Rabbit.
I think we all have those shoda coda woda moments. I am 70 years old and look back wishing, at times, that I would have taken a different path. But then again I would have never had the experiences in life that I had. No matter where you are or what you do there are always setbacks. The thing is you take those, learn from them and keep going. I am still moving forward with things in my life at this point I don't know how I got anything done when I was working full time. I still work a few hours a day. The thing is I have to give you kudos for sharing with us on RU-vid.
exactly in the same position at 19, already sold 6 cars, and counting, got inspired by robb to change my life and start selling cars but still kept my job fixing cars. about to move out in a few months when I turn 20. Thank you for this video
We're the same age. Another piece of advice I can give is be prepared to have a few life restarts. I have had several different career and life situations that are completely different from each other.
I'm a few years younger than you and Robb and I can definitely agree there prepare for the famine because the feast eventually is over and everyone goes home
Starting in the car biz I saw the old sales men shying away from the internet and saying it will kill the car business. I figured that everything was going that way and I won’t survive on lot ups a lot. To sell 20+ a month I took advantage of them not having an internet department and ran it for all 3 stores and 6 brands of new cars. I figured I need to get a jump on this internet thing and boy I was right! Now with my own lot I invest in the internet heavily and get most of the business from the internet. Thanks for the validation and good stories!
Rabbit, all things that I have heard on your Channel , have been very good things to know. I fell like you should put a seminar together for senior high school kids. Good idea right all the knowledge you could pay forward would be wonderful, Ho there’s only one problem you won’t make any money doing it. I just think one class with you would be better than a whole semester with some of these teachers out there.
19 rn be 20 in 5 months got a good factory job got my dream car (2020 charger scatpack) just got my 2nd place not to long ago doing good for myself I work a lot to have the nice things I do but I feel like I’m missing out and fun people have my age but hey it’s all worth it really 💪hustle don’t stop for nothing been living on my own since I turned 18
i’m 21 and had my own apartment since i turned 19 and i won’t lie i’ve had a lot of ups and down mostly downs but wit the glory of god i’m still fighting through it getting passed as much as i can
Rob, as I sit here in my Chevy pick up having a bite to eat for breakfast, I fell upon this bit. That is some of the best advice I’ve heard in a long time. I needed to hear this. Thanks!!
One of the, if not, most amazing guys on this platform your discussions should be in every institution of higher learning, It's the equivalent of listening to Professor Mr. ROB PITTS !
When I first got in the car business I had a manager tell me to go get some debt. I seen his point as I grew because nothing lights a fire under your ass more than having bills due at the end of the month. Excellent points made.
I always watch your videos and vinwiki videos on my lunch break Monday thru Friday. Today we got 2 rabbit videos. Thank you for posting content looking forward to many more videos
Plus, paying it off that quick possibly saved him at least 100k in interest. So in reality he was investing his money, as well as whatever value the house gained.
1986 i saw the light with upcoming computer use. I attended UGA Computer School. Learned to use one with my Home Building Business. 1988, the bottom fell out of homebuilding. I lost my business. 1989, I got in the car business as a salesman at the Local Ford dealership. So, I set up my computer on my sales desk to help me keep track of customers wants and needs. Boom ! I was selling cars like crazy. I was the 1st car salesman in Athens, Ga. to have a PC on my desk. The old guys were pissed calling me a cheater because they didn't have one and they were too stupid to learn to use one. Long story short. In a few years a buddy and I opened our own car lot. Doing GREAT ! Semper Protinus ! HooAh !
let me stop this story to tell you another story.. in rabbit's vinwiki video today he mentions he sold the dime piece C10 for "more than my first house".. so yeah, damn, quite a flip
You say you'd be on an island somewhere if you could talk with your younger self.. I'm thinking more along the lines of I'd be in jail for taking the term "beating yourself up" to a whole new level.. 😅 That very costly wisdom has to be hammered in.
I absolutely needed to hear this right now in my life, Rabbit. I like to think I’m more mature but I’m really not, continuous reiteration of maintaining working capital and the value of maintaining working capital I have been a continuous same in my life. I can’t break past broke if I put all my eggs in one basket. It is the doubt in my mind that I might not be successful enough to continue paying state mortgage, well if you see that happening and you have three months six months worth of savings hell even a week here in Asheville you can sell the place and do something else rent for a while if you have to but you’re not going to profit without having something to pitch and for self-employed folks that is there working capital. Thanks for the videos, cheers! Big love from the mountains up 26 Watch those guard rails though
Did you see my truck yet?! 03 F150. Short box, regular cab 4x4 with a 5 speed. 35,000 miles on the odometer now(I’ve driven it a lot this month) One owner from new, all the maintenance records kept from new. Man is Hawaiian, comes to Alaska to fish in the summers sometimes, he used the truck to get around. Other than that it sat in his garage for years not being used. Ive put in a Grizzly LSD in the rear with strange engineering axles, Grizzly locker in the front with Yukon axles. Swapped out the vacuum hubs and put on manual hubs. P.S I didn’t need braces, my teeth are perfect 🤩
At 20 or the latter half of that age I was at Camp Mackall starting the Q course. I can remember many a night laying in my bunk and wondering what the hell I got myself into? I can relate literally zero life experience so you have no idea were its going or if it was the right choice all you pretty much know its your committed to it now were ever "it" may go. And it's one of those Life Choices we're even now there's no hindsight to reflect back on.
Couldn’t agree with you more on not paying the house off in 3 years, I made that same mistake but it took me 7 years. After that I started out taking the 30 year mortgage and then putting up the cash to do a 15 year re-fi. Saves 10’s even 100’s of thousands while maintaining positive activity on the credit standings
Got my dealers license last year and haven’t really done much with it. Crazy times we are in with little inventory and overpriced units. This video means a lot. Excuses really
When I first started my trucking company I had 1 1/2 trucks ( one was a ragged out POS) and I was literally writing hold checks for fuel and picking em up on the way home..
You should touch on staying with the family business. Even though you sought-after going on your own journey and how that was for you.. we just celebrated 100 years of business but when times had come up for me to go my own way, I kept feeling that family pride and stayed.
LOL @ building character, it sure worked in your case, because you are quite the character! But as you noted, it pushed you to succeed, so it worked! As far as paying your house off, that is not that horrible of a thing, you could have used that cash to make more cash maybe, but you dont know when the bottom will drop out either. At least that gave you some security.
A car (or truck in this case) is only worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it. The value books are a guidance and probably don't take into account the latest demand. My dealers don't use the books but look on the list of what cars recently sold for at the wholesale auction.
Well, we're glas you're stuck here with us Assholes man. I take quite a bit from your videos........and even have a couple that I periodically go back and watch over just to keep those ideas fresh in my skull. Keep doing what you do man, and keep the stories coming. We love em.
That's completely true, when my wife came down with cancer I found she was floating a $100 grand in credit card bills and now hospital bills of $300,000 a month with only me making 37 grand a year. For two years I busted my ass working seven days a week 70 hours a week and taking care of a terminal wife. I barely kept the lights and water on for two years till she died. After that I lost my home to bankruptcy along with my wife passing away. Life is tough for sure.
I'm never selling my 93 454ss 5 speed I love it to death. It's my first car and my son wants to have it as his first car. I told him he has to earn the right to drive it.
Future wife and I bought first house in 93 married since 95. House is paid off. Few things we learned!! You can't live on love. Can't pay people with fish! Don't ever get every credit card out there!
I always look what the world wants NOT what you want and most of the time you will be successful 99 percent persperation and 1 perecent inseperartion !!
I didn’t find my path 26 didn’t really become successful till early 30s and by that meaning I can cover my needs and pay my mortgage ,still need to do more
I definitely have to say just about the same boat minus the house, I’m doing rent instead. I don’t know if I’ll ever truly be “in the business” but I definitely wrench for myself and others. Gotta say tho, I jacked up my first car doin it’s first tune up by cross threading a spark plug. The irony behind making that exact joke really bit me in the ass, I don’t really know where to go from here.
rob definitely could take just about any business & successfully run it .. might be a few he can’t but i feel like most he could & probably improve them
