My uncle owned at dealership when I was fifteen and I never forgot the day he brought a C4 home. First corvette I ever sat in, and from there I was hooked. Thank you Rev. Rabbit always preaching that good word
13:44 - Rabbit - I've called ol' Def Leppard "The best NINE-HAND-BAND in the world," for YEARS! Graduated the same year, too. Lowndes County, Georgia on my end, though. 10 minutes from the FL/GA line. We used to skip school to watch hockey in Tallahassee and get the old coots to give us their beer bracelets. Good shit, the 80s and 90s.
My dad and I bought an '84 C4 my senior year of high school, 2002. Loved that car, he sold it out from under me a couple years later for a boat that he never put in the water. To this day, I want that Corvette back.
Rob I'm so glad you have fallen in love with this car again! The sparkle in your eye, telling us about this road trip, I could imagine was same sparkle when you first played in this car, waiting for your Dad to buy that truck. Cheers Aaron
I remember when the C4 went into production and it was a really big deal. The C4 is such an 80's icon and even with the cheesy digital dash and "modern" design of the day that gets made fun of, it is still a very cool car, hell, it's a Corvette!!! Sidenote: I saw Def Leppard in Biloxi, Mississippi on the "Pyromania" tour when the drummer had both of his arms. Lol.
My late friend Lionel Lindhiemer had a love affair with Corvette like you do. Google his name,he was actually instrumental with the cats staying around. They started the race program for Chevrolet in 1958 with Nickey Chevrolet. He knew Zora very very well, and actually helped them with the fuel injection program. He passed in 2020 at 93. His stories are like Rabbits. I miss h terribly, thanks for yout stories Rob
been passing a c3 for sale in someones yard going to work. been picturing myself cruising in that all because of Rob. thanks bud, last damn thing i need
We have a 56 GMC wedgebed truck that used to belong to a guy that was on the Corvette race team. It's got all the window stickers from the different race series and we've got pics of it with a Vette on it..
Rob, bought my 1984 Corvette in 1989 with 60k on the odometer. Here in 2021 my 84' now has 237,000 miles and the engine hasn't been touched yet, and the 700R4 was rebuilt once for $600. Hands down my 84' has been the MOST reliable car I have ever owned. The key to Corvette ownership is DRIVING THEM!
The C4 gets a lot of crap, but it was part of the foundation for what they are doing today. (Plus you know how many country boys would never get to own a Corvette if not for the C4?) I think they’re starting to get some love, probably shoot through the roof in value before long. Appreciate the video.
Rabbit brother, I’ve been doing the same thing! I purchased a 91z28 convertible off an older gentleman with 5,000 miles on it. I’ve been driving the piss out it since August! Few parts here and there plus fluid changes and she’s running like a champ and the R12 AC still keeping me cool.
My dad had one new in 91. Lived outside of Sacramento. Red on red. Installed a Borela aluminum one piece exhaust, a k and n ram air kit and an aftermarket chip. That car was on rails. He had to sell it in @96 when he got cancer. Sad. God Bless My Friend.
I bought a 1994 C4 in 2007, for all the reasons you just described, drives like a corvette, you don't have to worry about breaking it, and you can just sit on the hood and shoot the shit. Rides like crap, but corners like it's on rails. 14 years later, still the madman, and still runs like a top. I always thought this was the prettiest Corvette, with the clamshell hood and the flip over headlights. Yes, my interior melted, but I wouldn't trade that car for anything. As a bonus, they are getting old enough now that people see them and recognize them as antiques. Due to the fact they never got any love, they are getting rare, if you have one... keep it.
The Corvette Challenge series (1988, 1989) was created by the SCCA because the Corvette won the showroom stock series 3 yrs in a row, and none of its competitors was going to enter a showroom stock class race anymore. The C4 was a really rough streetcar, I owned 2. Neat at the time, but you wouldn't want one today, no matter how much smoke ole Rabbit blows your skirt up with.
The C4 corvette in a lot of ways is similar to the sn95 Mustang. Hated on by so many, but such a great platform that still carries its weight today. It kept the legacy alive for future generations and we appreciate them more as time goes on.
Want it soooo bad! Huge shout out to Rabbit for treating us like gold we planned to buy a C4 from RUC until I got my cancer diagnosis thankfully I am now in remission and one day will be buying a C4 from Rabbit! When a car salesman puts the well being of someone he met once briefly at SEMA over making a sale it says a whole lot about him! Thank you Brother buying a killer C4 from you is now on my bucket list!
Rabbit not a huge c4 fan but love c5s. Just got a c5 for 7500 with 130k clean title old lady owned. It’s not perfect but it’s a fantastic driver. Thanks for the inspiration!
I bought a 2000 last year with under 50k, i ended up selling my other car because i wasnt driving it. I did 17k in a year and besides busting a brake line and both window motors going on me, she hasnt skipped a beat and i dont baby it. Enjoy!
I am right there with you. I am on my 5th Corvette as well as 6th 72 Cheyenne. Now retired at 68 biggest decision I have facing me is which one to be buried in. I bought my current 88 Corvette a few years ago with 36,500 miles for $8,100 after I figured out I could have just as much fun as if I paid $81,000 for a later model. I am up the road from you in Blk Mtn NC. We drop the top and wear out the BR Parkway ever chance we get
Good to see some appreciation for these. Insane how how cheap they are right now in good shape. I just picked up a red '92 with 88k miles in July and already put another 2k on it.
I bought my 91 Corvette last January and it's the first manual car I've owned. These suckers really do run better the harder and faster you go. I wasn't a fan of C4s at first. But for good, cheap, American fun, you can't go wrong. And man, '96 tires? The rubber on mine were only from 2011 when I bought it and I thought that was risky lol.
I kno that pic when you flashed it up on screen. You was right off interstate 26 in erwin tn. Love my pals food. I live in jonesborough good story love it
Hell yeah man im 17 been working my ass off for one for awhyle finally got me a 96 base model lt1 automatic a week ago its a one owner car with 95k on it for 6k verry clean and fun to drive i love c4 corvettes im hooked been hooked on them since my dad took me down the highway in his 76 c3 and 84 c4 im definatlly gonna get some more they are just too fun to drive.
I grew up around Nantahala and lived in Poplar for a while! We bought the house from the Atlanta Olympic bomber before he went nuts. In the 90s we had a poplar address, Andrews phone number, and Macon county zip code. Crazy times when they started naming the roads. I love HW11 and that bug swoop with the bridge. Wish I could have brought the c5s out to play!
Keep in mind the SR-71 leakes everything on the ground, oil, fuel, hydraulic fluid rattles like a box full of marbles, handles like crap..till she gets up to speed then she just Flys...
Got a 78 Vette now but had a 95 Corvette Convertible. It was a great car, rode great , looked great, reliable, fast enough to have fun but not crazy. Love later model C4s
The C4 was great for the first few years, but 35 years later, Corvettes were all still a caricature of that body style. The C8 is the first truly new Corvette body style in decades, and what a breath of fresh air.
Damn Robb, check out those tires first..... I just got back from a trip to Seneca SC and the Blue Ridge Parkway.... it was beautiful.... great fall colors...
Hey brother, dig you man. Zora Arkus-Duntov died in 1996. He retired from GM in 1975. You’re right he was the Godfather of the Corvette, but we can thank Dave McLellan for the C4.
From what I learned from one Tyler Hoover, tired are probably the single most important component on a car. That old Gen 1 Viper he had that drove AWFUL for the longest time, until he put some Pilot Sport’s on her. Almost EVERY SINGLE problem was fixed instantly. Went from being a lemon to a wonderful example (after the toupee was fixed as well.) I’ll never neglect the tires on any of my vehicles ever pretty much for that reason.
I’m still wondering why Rob hasn’t got the C8 vette yet. I know he’s like most of us and prefers older cars. But there’s just something bout that new C8 that makes me want to become car payment broke to get one.
Really nice having a nice car that is paid for. I own 5 cars and have the title to all of them. Are they new, not even close, but do I like them. Most definitely.
1) Asking for a friend: Can you be first twice? 2) The title is an under-appreciated feature on a car. I love my '05 Outback. Not the prettiest girl, but she's mine. I can park it close to the building entrance and if it gets scratched, so what.? There's a lot to be said for being able to enjoy the car, not crapping your pants when someone parks too close, stressing out when you drop a french fry. Preach the Gospel, Brother Rabbit. Preach!
anyone under the age of about 50 can't appreciate what a huge deal the 1984 Corvette was at the time. It was so different and so advanced from the 1982 people went nuts! Dealers were getting thousands over sticker price. Fast forward to today and most you see for sale need work but are dirt cheap.
Rob, for as big as my 96 Impala was.............the factory LT1 ran like a bat out of hell...................my issue always was with the damn transmission, lol
The C4 was the first of the modern Corvettes. Most of the hate comes form the fact that it cannot escape the era in which it was built. But...the 330HP LT4 did not have more power than the 345HP LS1. The performance difference in a 96 and 07 manual trans car is minimal though.
Nuff said… had an 87 champagne with black smoked top and the Doug Nash tranny. They kept putting clutches in it and I kept doing burn outs under warranty. Miss that car dang you Rabb! (ending was funny btw)
The only vette i have owned i had for a year it spent 9 months in the body shop was hit 3 times all of them when parked sold after the 3rd trip to the body shop never looked back
I had to pause the video when you said "Hillbilly Autobahn" I was laughing so hard 🤣 Edit: my dad had a '94 Camaro with a LT1 in it. My brother still has it!
Flashing check engine light is a on misfire Random misfire, usually. Check spark plugs and wires, it's probably dialed after that. Po300 to p0308 (po300 is random misfire, 301,302 etc is single cyl misfire) Get ya a tune up, shell snort like hell.
