I was in the audience for this performance. As soon as he started singing, everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, in the room sat up and stared without moving for the remainder. It was honestly a life-changing experience. Most of these videos cut off the applause at the end, but it was deafening and sustained for at least 5 minutes.
“And the people bowed and prayed, to the neon god they made”... if this isn’t one of the scariest foreshadowing lyrics ever written, I don’t know what is.
Hey, I’m 43 and like all kinds of music and obviously love this version of Sounds of Silence...but what you boys do here is more powerful than you think. It teaches younger people who might not be receptive toward different music genres to be more open minded. It also shows older folk who think the younger generations don’t appreciate “good music” that, Yeah, actually they do. Keep up the good work fellas.
You nailed it. I absolutely agree. The twins have actually made me appreciate the songs they review even more bc of their own passion and respect for the art no matter what the genre. Whenever I am feeling frustrated or even somewhat disgruntled after a hard news day, I tune into their channel and recharge my positive feelings. They always remind me there is hope we can all still find common ground within American culture and art despite our complicated and painful history. What’s so cool is they are Millennials listening to and appreciating a Boomer generation song performed by a GenXer. The Sound of Silence has definitely survived the test of time! I love this song and love these guys! ❤
@PorkchopPete If you really like this version, just for a right giggle, check out Gollum's version... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4w8t1T-vlzo.html

Simon and Garfunkel's version was a warning Disturbs version is pure rage that the warning was ignored
Bro why does EVERYONE say that, Every reaction and every single time I go to the comments the same thing is said by a different person. This is the most original comment I’ve ever heard
Older white fart alert: These young guys here are respectful,open-minded with the different genres they've reacted to-which demonstrates a growing maturity that will benefit themselves and others, now and later,as they grow older.
I respect a respectfulness but never called disturbed an old fart you listen to more of the songs more of his albums some of it's got meaning that might actually scare you like my old friend to worlds collide I can keep going the game so many the prayer believe
@Joseph Preston I mean these two black boys obviously interested in to learning a type of music and that's cool I like that that's awesome that means they like white guys and that means baby walkum around me
This is what I love about "React" videos. Different cultures, different people...when a song hits like this, it really reminds us...WE.ARE.ALL.THE.SAME. Love to everyone! I'm out.
When the boys say it could be a lead character dying - they hit it - this song was written in 1963 as a reaction to seeing President Kennedy being assassinated on TV
According to Paul Simon, he wrote it when he was 21. Before Kennedy was assassinated. His words regarding the song - “The key to "The Sound of Silence" is the simplicity of the melody and the words, which are [based on] youthful alienation. It's a young lyric, but not bad for a 21-year-old. It's not a sophisticated thought, but a thought that I gathered from some college reading material. It wasn't something that I was experiencing at some deep, profound level - nobody's listening to me, nobody's listening to anyone - it was a post-adolescent angst, but it had some level of truth to it, and it resonated with millions of people. Largely because it had a simple and singable melody, ‘
And Simon and Garfunkel were not wrong about it being both a sign of what’s wrong and a dark turning point in history. We got the CRA through but have been fighting the backlash ever since. I’ve always said, there’s been a 75 year Cold War with Russia and a 160 year Cold War with the confederacy.
One.... You need to hear his singing with disturbed to understand what we are use to hearing from him. Two... He is classically trained something many didnt even know. This is TALENT. Pure raw talent.
Seeing Disturbed live was one of the best experiences of my life! I'm 54 and have seen a LOT of concerts in my day. Dan has an amazing voice! The twins need to check out more of their songs!
Dave Draiman has one of the most beautiful and hypnotizing voices in the music industry. I could listen to him all day, and this cover launched him to the sky. I love the original, but no one can beat this version.
I would LOVE to hear a collaboration with him and Floor Jansen, lead singer of "Nightwish". I think together their voices would just light fire in peoples' hearts.
Fun little bit of trivia, The singer, David, was sick with a cold during this performance, He wasnt happy with it and felt he could have done better.....Still won a Grammy for it.
Another reason he wasn’t happy with this performance was that his voice was somewhat auto tuned. The average person couldn’t tell but during the performance he could hear it in the feedback. This man is a classically trained musician... he doesn’t need auto tuning
@@debichristley9788 Many other trained people (singing coaches) say its part of his singing technique which makes it misheard for autotune. Is there any video or source where its said that there was autotune?
@@steffenk.561 I’m not sure if auto tuned is the correct term and I am desperately trying to find where I read that info. The story I read was basically David was sick and the behind the scenes people offered to “adjust” his voice just in case and he absolutely refused. While performing the song he was hearing corrections to his voice and it pissed him off that they didn’t listen to what he said.
@@debichristley9788 Yeah thats what i heard as a rumor too. But as there are many others who are pointing out that he did it only with his voice, i'm not sure whats correct. And i'm not educated enough to hear it 🙌
I was raised on Simon and Garfunkel’s “Sound of Silence”, soft and soothing almost......but this version is incredible!!! I absolutely love it. His voice is amazing, it reaches your very depths and gives you goosebumps!
If you want a parody version from a sciency point of view- check out The Sound of Science. It's a Portal parody version, and it's freakin HILARIOUS. xD
My era. I loved their music. Too bad they just can't get along, they did make beautiful music. I love this Disturbed cover, too. The first time I heard it, I was blown away. I love them both.
Stonemansteve II - yes Simon and Garfunkel fist sang the song. Aretha Franklin took it and made a version of her own. John Legend has also sang a version of it for Aretha’s tribute. But Disturbs version is the best cover ever!
I agree...my mum and dad loved Simon and Garfunkel...classic. Their version is amazing. X and I’m not even ‘into’ that kind of music...but always appreciate the classics.
*BRACE YOURSELF* *It doesn't matter what your ethnicity, sex, age, religion, sexual preference or anything else is. This song hits everyone in the feels every time.*
I haven't seen this reaction from the Twins yet and I had tears in my eyes as I sang along. This version got me through a really difficult time in late 2018 and I remembered how I would listen to it for hours on end. It will never getold.
@@weezieyo actually he didn't agree. He was sick, so producers wanted to use Autotune. Drainman didn't want that, but they did it without his agreement. He told about it in one of the interviews.
So many reactions are over exaggerated, but you guys are honest and it's freaking sweet, made me feel like I was watcjing for the first time again :) thanks for that
This is absolutely stunning and beautiful, I am a big fan of Simon and Garfunkel. They both approve of his song they think it's a great rendition. Peace and love everyone and remember the sound of silence
It gives me chills. EVERY. TIME. His voice is just beautiful, powerful, and dark. It's PERFECT for this song. Their version just fits the message of the song more.
I heard somewhere that Simon & Garfunkel described their original as a cry for help & this version as the anger from the cries going unanswered. Goosebumps every time I hear it.
@@SongbirdRae the original always feels almost hopeful to me. Like they’re asking for help thinking “surely someone will hear me” and this version always feels like they’re realizing after years, “no one else cares.” It’s truly amazing how just the tone can change the meaning so much.
I believe this is an all time favorite remake. So true to the song and so relevant. I have had to let a few of the younger set know this was a remake but one of the best. They do act like I'm stupid, that's a new song.
My mom used to sing it when I was little, but Simon & Garfunkel's version. I would always cry silently because for me it was a sad song. But mommy sang it so Beautiful. She passed 7 months ago, and this brought back those memories.
SO very sorry doll! You should listen to them do a song from their new album called "Hold on to the Memories".......I balled like a baby....there's a live one where they have Chester and everyone playing behind them...🌹🌹🌹❤❤❤ Bless YOU!💐
One of my favoritest percussion instruments!! My other favoritest percussion is the quints/quads (also known as tenor drums). Love me some drumline cadences!!
I have 3 sons and a daughter. I want them to be just like you. My daughter is thirty and has 4 children . She wants them to be just like you too. U guys are the epitome of brotherly love. All love and warmest of everything from australia
The original version was a warning against the rise of technology (Television / now 'social media') - causing less and less 'human' interaction (think about how people brag they have 6,000 'friends' on Facebook, or how people will 'text' someone whom is literately sitting next to them, rather than just 'talk' to them). Disturbed's version is equated to the 'rage' of someone because those warnings were not listened to - and how its becoming so 'uncomfortable' to even just 'talk' to someone without worrying about offending or being offended, because it feels easier to just 'use social media' instead of our own voices. The short version is its a warning about humanity losing what makes us 'human' - and instead embracing the 'neon god' (tech) which lets us 'communicate' but also leaves us in silence - as we forget HOW to communicate with each other as human beings.
I'm here with these guys because of a story about them on CNN. This is the second reaction of theirs I've seen. What I see here is two black men enjoying a video featuring a bald white man. It gives me hope that we are not as divided as the media wants us to be. The media is what is trying to divide us... We are not that divided! We are all Americans and want all of us to succeed. The more we all succeed the more America succeeds! Thanks guys for this reaction. Liked and subscribed.
...just curious, are you that David? Older white chick here. The twins have the best review, and make us appreciate the youth and their open mindedness.
I didn't notice them being black as much as I noticed them being YOUNG... They have been doing an amazing job reacting to lots of great music, some of which was "before their time". Keep watching their videos. I'm hooked, myself. Seeing them discover a new song, and get excited about it, is like getting to experience that song for the first time myself, all over again :).
I’m a Mom of two pre teen boys. I love hanging out with you both. I subscribed and have introduced you to my boys. Thank you both for being excellent role models for quality young men. You are leaders just by being yourselves. May you always be safe and go far!
This version took off like a rocket, and still flying high after all this time. David's voice is always on point, even when he is sick (which is during this performance). Great stuff guys, much love and respect'!'
I played the music video for my parents, who grew up listening to the original song as teenagers. They just looked at each other with jaws dropped when they heard it and they loved the original. They thought this version was great too.
I was born in the 1960s, so I grew up listening to Simon and Garfunkel. Always loved their song, The Sound of Silence. Then Disturbed did the song and HOLY CRAP! The first time I heard them sing it, it actually made me cry as it was so full of emotion!! To me, Disturbed's version is really how that song should have always been sung. It hits you in your heart. It gives you goose bumps. Evoking emotion that strong is awesome. Glad you guys liked the song. Glad you guys are listening to so many kinds of music!!!! Keep doing these videos. :-)
David's rendition of this song is one of the most beautiful covers ever. It's one where you need to put headphones on, close your eyes and lean back. Then you find yourself singing along and doing crazy facial expressions and hand movements, simply b/c you're immersed. You're lost in another world and just can't help yourself.
I remember the first time I heard Disturbed sing this. It took my breath away. It felt like it was finally as it should be sung. Saying that it's a song I remember Simon & Garfunkel singing, from when I was a very young child. It left a huge impression on me as a great song so I was stunned hearing it as if for the first time in such a visceral way.
This song by Simon and Garfunkel originally, it's about the Vietnam war and dealing with PTSD. If you like this song listen to Simon and Garfunkels "Bridge Over Troubled Water"
I grew up listening to Simon and Garfunkel, music close to my heart. "The Boxer" is an all time favorite of mine...the acoustic guitar work is brilliant and the lyrics cut deep.
What? This song is NOT about PTSD but about people not listening to each others, and a society ignoring individuals. Not about a specific group of society, but everybody in it.
That boom boom boom is a tympany percussion instrument. Very epic instrument lol Was in symphony orchestra as a younger woman. Playing snare and tympany or kettle drums are my favorites. Adds such thunder to drums section. Love the new electronic mixing but real true instruments have richer sound to me
Watching the two of you reacting to this song and "In the Air Tonight" is the best day to start a rainy Saturday down here in Richmond Va. with volume turned up loud. Stay humble. Would love to see a shirt that says "It's a Banger" and this is "Cold Man". I'd wear it with pride and when people asked me what does that mean all I would say go on RU-vid and you'll see for yourself.
OMG! Not only am I loving the purity of these two's reactions, I am being educated on different artists and genres at the same time. This 68 yr old white grandma, a Woodstock nation classic rock chick, just found Disturbed and love them! Keep on rocking in the free world, guys. P.S. I IMMEDIATELY subscribed. First RU-vid subscription ever!👍✌💓
Hey guys! It is hard to believe that David was quite ill when he did this live performance. That is why he is sitting down, he was afraid he would not be able to stand for the whole performance. I think that him doing this so well live and it almost exactly matches the studio version, shows just what a great vocalist David is. By the way, those "big drums" are timpani, or also called kettle drums, which are typically used in symphony orchestras for classical music. Happy Thanksgiving & I hope you both have a great weekend!
Probably the best cover of any song I have ever heard, and I really liked the original. Great respect for you guys, you seem to appreciate all the music you showcase, nice to see that music can be loved by all generations
Not only did he slay it, but was sick for this performance. When they tried to get him to use autotune, he essentially gave them the bird. He doesn't need autocorrect ever.
This version of the song is a miracle, I love it. I think, I even like it better than the original Version. Because it is such a melancholy mood. And you think:" which life/experiences must a man have had to be able to sing like that." It is great to see your feelings about it, too. :-) carry on with your videos. :-)
My Mom used to play the original ...I still remember . I was around 4 my Uncle had just returned from the Vietnam War and would sit and stare saying nothing ...he lived with us ...my Mom was 20 yrs old . It was just us...my Mom was a Foster Child she only had her brother. She would cry because he would not speak ...trauma.. he spoke finally but only to me. I went into Foster Care and never saw him again . This song reminds me of him I wish I could see him again.
Omg ♥️♥️ that makes this song even more haunting just imagining that time of our country. So sad for all those going men who saw too much and suffered in silence ♥️♥️
Best cover of this song, on point about the live instruments. The timpani, the strings, the voice...all on point. I loved Disturbed, this song gives me goosebumps every time.
Seeing this in July 2021. I hadn't heard this. OMG!!!!! DAMN GOOD!!!!! (full body goose-pimples) ** You guys are kill' it!!!! I'll say it again... I'm so proud of you two young men!!
I love how you so quickly imagine uses for songs- this one for a video game, this one for entrance into a WWE fight, this one for singing around a campfire, this one for background for a movie fight or war scene. This talent will take you far. Love you guys!
i love simon an garfunkel's sound of silence, but this version by disturbed hit me so deep to the core. amazin, i could listen to it over an over. his voice is awesome, he actually didnt think his voice was was made to do this. how wrong could he have been. so glad he did it.
A cover of Simon and Garfunkel, but a GREAT one! When I was your age and heard the original back in the sixties it hit me just as hard and just as deep. :)
Disturbed was my first concert. When I heard David sing this live it sent chills up my spine. Trust me, even though this video was recorded live, it's got nothing on hearing it live & in person. ❤
Something I love about watching y'all's videos is it's like finding these songs for the first time myself, where I might have lost touch with these bands/songs before. It's extremely soothing, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
My teenager came in griping about why I'm watching dacron videos where the songs get interrupted instead of just listening to the music. Bruh, you don't understand the mindbend of somebody not being raised on the music I raised y'all on. And then I realized I hadn't really introduced them to the music *I* was raised on. Might have to start a channel for that. Lol.
This is THE voice... Without all that shit stuff like autotune etc. He started singing in the CHURCH... So much power and emotions and when he is singing the "evil part" it is like something want to burst out and you feel satiesfied... A MASTERPIECE 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Your genuine excitement about this song carries the whole experience to the next level!!!!!! Thanks for being a Blessing!!!! SWEET!!!!!!!! Keep it coming!!!!!!!!!!
This was my brothers favorite song he passed away at 42 back in April you guys together remind me of my brother and I listening to this song together thanks for doing this guys
