this scene is so good I got chills when I first watched this scene in episode 10. Still do too. I sometimes have to rewind just to watch it a second time.
Its hard to picture the town without her. She was so interesting and smart I think she could have been great helping investigate things in an unofficial way.
Sadly, much of season 3 was absent from many elements of the original, specifically Donna, Harry Truman and the original man from another place (the arm). All actors didn't want reprise their roles though, otherwise I'm sure they would have been written in. That said, season 3 was still a masterpiece.
I quite liked that about her character. When it comes down to it, Donna was just a teenager dealing with teenager issues, and she didn't really want her life to be more complicated than that. She wanted to be with James, but she felt bad for falling in love with him so soon after Laura's death. I think she did want to solve Laura's murder too, but mostly so it could bring her (and her friends) some peace. She just wanted to live a normal teen life.
I think she wanted to find Laura's killer. Not only did she get close with James, but she befriended Maddy so they could all team up and try to find clues. Donna did love Laura, but Laura had a lot of problems that rubbed off on her as well.
I could never really sympathise with Donna who seemed to have had a very stable and even charmed life compared to Laura or even Audrey (Ben never really got to know her.) What hardships or tragedies did Donna suffer how can she even relate to Laura anymore. This scene always felt self pitying and selfish.
i mean, she lost her best friend, then maddy died after she had befriended her, then she felt responsible (which I can't lie, she was in a way) for Harold's suicide and james is almost killed as well lmao
Well to be honest Donna, Laura was created as a celestial redeemer to wash away the evils rained down upon this world by Jowday or Judy. So yeah, you pretty much weren't going to live up to that.
DONNA : Hi. This is from Harold Smith. Sorry I haven’t been up to see you since the funeral but… things have been pretty strange. So, were you sleeping with this guy Harold or what? He seems pretty nice. Kind of oddball. Although, I guess anyone can start to seem like that when you look close enough. We need to talk. Maybe you already knew about me and James, but anyway… After you died, we kinda got together. This isn’t something I feel I have to explain to you. I guess you probably knew about how we felt before we did. How can you be so smart about things like that? And so stupid about so much else… I’m mad at you! When it was you, and me, and James, it kinda worked. Now, you’re gone! I love James. And it’s a mess. Your cousin Maddie’s here. And I think there’s something going on between them. And I’m afraid I’m gonna end up losing both of you. I wanted so much to be like you, Laura. To have your strength, and your courage… Look at what it did… Look at what it did to you! As much as I love you, Laura, most of the time, you were trying to solve your problems. And you know what? They still are! Not mine, or James’, or Maddie’s, yours! You’re dead, Laura, but your problems keep hanging around! It’s almost like they didn’t bury you deep enough!
