I'm impressed by anyone who can successfully rebuild an automatic transmission. What is even more impressive is that he knows how to rebuild HUNDREDS of different brands and models of trannys. Not to mention the manual transmissions also.
Richard you are blessed beyond measure with your knowledge of all these GM transmissions and all transmissions. Thank you and Teresa for all you do and sharing your knowledge and expertise
Hi Richard, we all know you can tare down and build those transmissions with your eyes 👀 closed 😂. It would probably take me a week to lift that drum up to get the snap ring in 😊.
RICHARD IS A GENIUS.. I JUST FINISHED MY 2001 4L60E, FOLLOWING RICHARDS ADVICE ON BUILDING A 4L60E.. IT WORKS GREAT... HARDEST PART FOR ME WAS THE OUTPUT SHAFT C CLIP.. I DIDNT HAVE THE RIGHT PLIERS..LOW REVERSE PISTON SUCKED TOO
Glad to see you guys. Richard yer not alone. Its hard to get used to these new battery tools, the air tools just have the sound, speed and power. Of course im half deaf, but still hard to change over!!! Love you guys, keep on keepin on!!!
Yo Richard and Teresa thanks for the amazing job !!! You guys make it so easy, love the way you explain any detail. Great work keep going pls. Regards from Tampa Florida.
Another great video Richard! I spent a few years up near Amarillo at West Texas A&M. Got a 2015 Yukon w a 6L80 that just started slipping on me and I’d love to send it your way for a heavy duty Sonnax rebuild.
Love watching your videos. Just for fun, I'd love to see you do a teardown on a CVT and explain how it works and a auto trans out of a 18 wheeler. Looking forward to your next video.
Rebuilding transmissions with that kind of knowledge is a rare commodity. It’s crazy how much goes into those things. I really appreciate that and thank you both for demonstrating what it takes. Thank you!
So happy to see you and Teresa back! When I arrived for my build (00' Dodge) almost 2 years ago it was in the midst of the turmoil... I hope all has gone well and wish you both the best into the future. Perhaps I'll be seeing you in Amarillo again one day cuz I don't want anyone in my 46re but you or myself. Thanks for rescuing my tranny and the expeditious service and professionalism in doing so.
TY, I love watching and learning a bit from you. My Forte is tool and die/machining, but anything related to high performance is OK by me..When you pulled the filter and opened up the solenoid stacks to see, it was like the world dims and a spotlight shines on the complete coolness this is compared to what we had available in the 70's -80's. So glad I was able to see the 60's on tech-splosion, and people like you taking it all apart and showing us how it works. TY .
I know how you feel about the dental! I had a wisdom tooth cut out AND 8 implants put in all in one visit on nothing but local anesthetic. I honestly have PTSD from it and now have to take anxiety meds before any dental appointment. I got the all-on-4 implants top and bottom.
I have a 42rle vlp in a dodge nitro sounds like a knock in the pump or torque converter, been like that for 10k since I bought it, oils clean nothing much on magnet. What's your guess? 😂 checked torque converter bolts couldn't see a crack bolts are tight etc
hey Richard the battery tools have a breaking system on them to achieve a quick stop which as your finding in some instances is a nuisance , they basically when you let go of the trigger short the winding to bring it to a dead stop quickly ,
Sonax catalog is really nice.. always fun watching them disassemble,,, But show us how to reassemble...Who has the mind to engineer these modern-day automatic transmissions ?
I used to have a motto never use a rebuild transmission they never lasted long now I know why they didn’t last long rebuilding a transmission for 400 bucks is way different than fixing what actually made it fail in the first place and it’s way more expensive.
Snap rings very important part just like the auxiliary on semi truck 🚛 Eaton fuller 10 speed fro14210c if pistons on auxiliary not in low range n in place with the groove won't function properly
Gee Richard, it sounds like you know this Tuner guy and you are calling him out. Have the customer sign a waiver that they cant blame you if someone messes up the trany. when trying to tune it.
Hi Richard, Question, if you were to take the snap ring out for the front seal of the pump housing and pressurise the lube circuit or case with the air gun would that blow the front seal out?
How do you even get to know these devices? It's not like the old days. These things come out different by the minute...not by the year. Frankly, if they still build 'em I don't see any financial sense in rebuilding them. Throw away stuff. The era of hydraulicly controlled transmissions is coming to an end. Say hello to VFD electrics and goodbye to friction clutches. I'm betting 5 or so years until the fluid couplings are gone forever.
Kinda general question. Ford 6R140 in a Superduty 6.7. Is it necessary/recommended to change/flush fluid in a working transmission as part of a service interval? Dealer told me to just change filter and top-off. I've heard generally speaking to never fully flush an automatic if it's in good working condition. What's your opinion and why? Thanks!
@@keltecfan I’m definitely well aware but he has said several times in the comments it’s a 6l80 and I’m trying not to question his expertise. I have a 6l90 from a ctsv in my car (2010 Camaro ss) which is why i was saying this because I swapped the 6l80 for a 6l90.
@even_i2622 I don't know who's posting the comments, but I do know a 6L90 when I see one. I've rebuilt plenty of 6L80/6L90 transmissions. If you look up a pan gasket for the 6L80 & compare it to the 6L90, you'll find that the 6L90 has a distinct 45ish degree angle behind the TCM plug. The holes for the valve body to center support are in different positions on a 6L90, the 6L90 also has the six pinion planets. I assume that there's a few rebuilders that watch Richard's videos, myself (retired) included. I'm not here to crap on his channel. I've enjoyed watching his videos (as a paid subscriber) since the beginning of their Precision Transmission channel. I thought it was a typo initially & even asked for clarification. I'm not the only viewer who has suggested that this is a 6L90. I suspect that it's someone other than Richard who's been commenting that it's a 6L80. Anyway, I do wish them the best of success in their new location.
@@keltecfan I’m with you I too thought it was a 6l90 which is why I was a little confused and didn’t want to try and correct my betters. I thought maybe there was something I wasn’t aware of so I was trying to give the benefit of doubt. As I said I have a built 6l90e with all circle d parts which are probably relabeled sonex parts. I could be wrong, I don’t build they I try to destroy them lol and my tuner try’s to keep it alive for me. I watch Richard’s vids so I can learn about how transmissions mechanically function and that so maybe the next time I destroy mine I might rebuild it myself. Thanks for clarifying the video at hand I appreciate it.
It hadn't failed yet. Was most likely on its last leg. I added a bigger motor and going to turn the boost up more. The tune it it was good. We shifted it at 7500. Motor blew before the trans did. Just wanted to build it while the motor is out.
How come my local guys can't make my 4l60E last more than 30k miles with a bone stock 4.8 except for a single turbo with a 9lb spring. Theres no way this combo is making more than 400 h.p.
There's a reason everyone with that setup upgrades to a 4L80E or to a 400, 4L60E as a very weak trans, even will all available upgrades, which there isnt alot available besides to help with towing etc. Not higher HP applications
Hmm. I thought that the case/pan with the 45-degree corner notched, 6 pinion planetary, and the off set to the rear on the valve body to case holes were specific to the 6L90?
