Filmed by Henry Tenby using a tripod, but not easy work filming through a chain link fence. Nice to see two HS748s arriving within the space of 45 minutes at YVR. Not too many places in the world you can still witness this kind of HS748 action.

These were some great airliners. From what I understand they first flew in the 1960’s and Air North flew these up until 2021. That is a long life and had to be good planes. Thanks for sharing

This aircraft has the RR Darts like the Vickers Viscount had. The difference between this aircraft and the Viscount, is the sound of the props is somewhat more audible over the whine of the Darts. On the Viscount, the sound of it's props was virtually inaudible. The Viscount sounded much more like a turbofan than a turboprop.

I wonder how the props make different sounds? There is fabulous Viscount prop screw sound in the Beatles song “Back in the USSR” and I was always amazed with the twirling airscrew sound of the Viscount props, so the sound is very much audible there, I think. At the very end of the song last 1 or 2 seconds.

No, I was just filming these airplanes at the airport cause I’m an aviation fan. This would’ve been filmed probably 10 or 15 years ago.

Wow, the backdrop of YVR and the Fairmont looks so different from today. I laughed at the guy trying to stop the propeller. Do you know if the sharper the prop blade, the more efficient it is?

I believe that, but I never actually thought of it until you mentioned it. I did not notice any physical change of the Fairmont hotel, but I believe you on that too.

Why is the Dart so noisy? "The noise you hear from a Dart engine is the high pitched whine of the low pressure compressor rotating assembly. The reason for the noise is that the tips of the rotating parts are virtually travelling at supersonic speed."
