I love that you are concerned about buying leather, and instead re-purpose clothing that can't be re-used. I appreciate your compassion for our fellow animals.
Thank you for all the effort you put into this channel, Lindsay. You are one of my favorite RU-vidrs right now and I love how often you upload new stuff and the variety of projects and techniques. It seems like you're not afraid to try anything.
Oooo, I Love this! I have an old purple faux leather coat that is no good to wear but I just couldnt throw it out. I knew it could be used for something, and now I have the Perfect thing to use it on! Thank you! That punch looks awesome!
These journals look awesome and so easy! You could totally replace drawing paper with watercolor paper and make your own little watercolor journal too! Thanks for having this giveaway!
Great projects. My dad and grandpa both had very old leather tools like that for belts and saddlery, but I never thought of using one for paper. That's an awesome idea. I thought I'd offer a little rotary cutter sharpening idea. I was making a quilt and found a little burr on my blade so I ran it alternately through folded over aluminum foil and automotive fine grit sand paper. I think it was 1000 or 1200 grit wet/dry sandpaper. It worked like a charm after that.
Wow! Thanks for being so easy to follow! I am such a novice, You answered questions and your directions are super easy to understand! I am new to this "Trashy Junk Journals"
I would love to make leather journals for my teen granddaughters ...they both love to write short stories and poetry :) thank you for the great and inspiring ideas you give us each and every day
I love the journals, so precious! I love the punch, I think that is a must have! Thanks so much for sharing this tutorial, I am definitely going to be making these! You truly are wonderful for inspiring all of us.
Love the punch tool. It's great to punch through thick layers of anything. I would like to try punching through multiple layers of UTEE to make glossy ornaments with stamped designs framed on both sides onto chipboard. Also to try making earrings and being able to punch holes. Endless possibilities. Thanks for showing us all about this tool!
How neat! What cool tool! The journal would make a great Christmas gift for my teenage daughter! Thanks for sharing this idea! As always, love your work!
Hi Lindsay! I really love the leather journal! I bet you hear this, literally, a million times, but you are so talented!! I tried to make the other washi tape journals and they came out ok, but I thought surely the THIRD one would've been way better? LOL - Not!! Guess I have to keep practicing. Thank you for this tutorial! I can't wait to try with old purses I have. Also, thanks for the opportunity to win that cool punch! can't believe it punched so well. Crafty hugs :-)
I've been looking for a refillable journal. Guess I'll make my own. I'm thinking denim and using pieces with pockets for pencils/pens. Like the cardboard ones too
thank you for sharing. my husband has one of those punches for his leather work...found out a few weeks ago it works for paper! he was surprised. Lol. love the idea and I'm now getting into his leather stash! ;-)
Very smart looking leather journal, I've watched several people's binding videos, but had not seen this method. I really like the central hole tying method
How cool!! That leather book is just like a midori but better because you can use what you have on hand. I am going to have to try that. I have some denim I was going to donate but not now.
Thank you for this video! Ive been searching for a video that bonds leather and felt to make a journal, and I got SUPER excited to see this! Im really excited to try it out
We both have the same exact baking mats that are being used as craft mats! The clear one with the orange border is a Crofton (Aldi's brand), and the orange one is from Bakers Secret. I love all the pretty journals you've created and am going to be making some today too! Thank you for sharing!
Love when you do these diy's from scratch.. I look forward to them, especially when they use materials from around the house. Something I've wondered awhile now...why aren't you on HGTV yet? =) Back when I used to watch it so much, you would've been exactly my cup of tea!
lOve this ALLOT* Thanks for Sharing, with my budget this idea of recycling is AWESOME, I have old leather coats . I am starting my first year of journal making this year. I have already saved cereal boxes, etc.. and this Tutorial is very helpful****"
My son is a professional singer/songwriter/musician/performer (Porter M Lori on Facebook). I'd just about decided to do a journal for him, for his songwriting, but hadn't decided on the cover. I have an old brown suede jacket that is too big for me and has a tear on the pocket. IF I WIN this pro puncher, I will definitely make the journal for my son's Christmas present, using the old brown suede!
New subscriber today, Angela A & Cinnamon both recommended you. I really like the recycled covers on both books, the leather one being my favourite, as it would make a great art journal. There are are so many crafting opportunities when clothing is too damaged to donate to charity.
As usual I enjoyed your video. Do you find that the papers are uneven when you fold them together? I normally have to trim the edges, or cut some of them a tad smaller. TFS
I absolutely love this! I love the satin cord for the straps instead of elastic. Any suggestions for some kind of grommet to finish the holes? I'm not sure a cropodile is secure enough.
Nice, Lindsay, thank you. Satin cords? I had not thought of that. I would love to know how you decided to do the satin instead of the elastic - I would not have thought of it. Very well done video, thank you for the great ideas.
" hers where it gets interesting" you say after wrapping the satin cord three times " snug" you tie the two loose cord ends together into a knot ? before feeding through the hole , you edit that part out so I could not see what kind of knot was it under over the step? Do I tie it tight ?
Hi Lindsay, I am so glad you did this. This is the perfect gift for my son who is going to Art College. I am going to make this for him to take. You did a great job on this video. Also, where can I get that heavy duty corner rounder?
Hi. I've always wanted one of those punches. Didn't know the review. Thanks for showing what it does! I'll wait & see if I win one before I buy it. :-)
I'd like to make leather doll shoes. One needs this punch to put lacing holes in the leather. I'd also like to try my hand at these journals. And I'd like to make holes in the chipboard I have for making holes in "books" . And last, but never least, I'd like to make a stencil with a variety of holes. And, yep, I'm from the USA. LChristoffer
Hi Lindsay... love your tutorials and hints. Does this punch work ok with only one sheet of card stock or paper without tear? I have one similar but is tearing the paper, I nearly damage a page of a book I am making. Now I need to get a good one that goes thought chipboard and paper. xx
Actually, it's a chipboard already punched that I covered with scrapbooking paper and now has to be punched again... and it seems it will not work. Thank you for your answer. xx
I'm following you, your are one of my muses and I thank you so much for being frugal and clever and very creative, who can say that ,not many Pp and I very gratefull to have this opportunity. so Thanks. xxx()()()()
Hi Lindsay! I always learn all kinds of media painting from you. Recently I found my table light make my works not the exactly color I want. After I paint something in the night, the second day I look it again under the natural light, I feel it is not the same color I worked as last night. What table light do you work with? Do you have some suggestion for table lights?
+Fiona Wang Hi, I have been told that the ottlight is great for showing true colors, even at night or under bright, studio lights. I can't say for sure, but I think you might find some videos on this. Good luck! x
Does that glue leave lumps where the glue lines were sandwiched between the leather and the felt? I've seen somewhere else that someone recommended Yes Paste bc it dries flat (?). Is Beacon glue a better choice? Would Yes Paste hold leather & felt together?
Hi Lindsay! I need some help. The other day I found out that my study Bible had come apart from the leather in the back. Very sad, and I Wonder what I should use to glue it back together. The spine is not split between pages, but the Whole spine is loose from the leather binding. I really like to go in Depth of some Things. Would you use YES!Paste? Or what would be better? Thanks in advance. Hug from Your superfan in Norway
Lindsay, what is the surface you are working on made of? You seem to be able to do any kind of crafting on it, including cutting like you do here. I would like to know what it is and where I could purchase one, please. Also, because I can't drive very far, I would like to know where online I can purchase the quilting square, the Beacon glue, and the rotary cutter. Thank you
When she's cutting the leather she is using a rotary cutter and a rotary cutting mat...it and the squared or quilting ruler can be found in any quilt store and craftubg store ....look out for joann.com they often have coupons and can save you aloy of money...im not sure about the glue...joanns may gave it too
+Sydney Doe thanks for helping Sydney, you are right, sometimes you can get package deals at joanns too with a mat, riotary cutter and square and the online sales are great or you can use the coupons online. You can find a lot of the stuff I use at joann.com
"aaaand *while holding up the jounals* im gonna be giving away 3 .... of these punches".. I was like *staring at the journals* woaaah yay journals ^-^ and then like: ooooh =/ Q_Q Thank you for yet another great video =)
I love this journal! It turned out really nice and I love the fact that it is reusable. How does this punch compare to the Cropadile? Do you know? And also, can I get your email address again for the red scarf? My iPad got smashed to smithereens and it is no longer working which is where I had your email address saved. So if I could get that again, that would be fabulous. Thanks Lindsay!
+Beau DeLeon It is different, Cropadial does 2 sizes, skilled crafter does 6. Cropadial is better for metal but for other materails Skilled crafter leaves a cleaner edge. Both are good tools, just depends if you want to ouch metal or how many sizes of holes you want. You can do this tutorial with the cropadial though:)
thefrugalcrafter Lindsay Weirich Thanks Lindsay that explains it well. And did you already sell the scarf? And if not can I get your email address again?
I miss your quirky off the cuff live commentary!! The narrated stuff is fine but your sparkle is gone that way. Love these projects though!! I'm definitely going to do those mini cardboard ones with my kids!
+Tanya Naser thanks, the live verson was 30 minutes and I knew I could get all of the info out in less time, don't worry the next couple are live narrarated:)
