I’m glad in sleigh ride we can actually hear the flutes. They sound so good but when brass is played with them a lot of times you can’t hear them. This is coming from a trumpet/euphonium :)
Oh my god! I’m a flutist too, and just I played this very same piece with my band two weeks ago, for our holiday concert! It’s always wonderful to see fellow flutists :) By the way, beautiful vibrato!
@@teagan.biers03 Don’t underestimate yourself. I sucked in eighth grade. Now, two years later, I’m among the best flutists in our region (that’s not just me bragging, I promise, I actually made all-region). You can play anything you put your mind too, if you’re willing to work hard enough.
there is absolutely no way my band can play this. There’s no way, I don’t even think the flutes can switch their fingers so fast let alone be able to have a good sound playing that high 😭
bro as a trumpet player i cant wait to play that trumpet neigh. But amazing vibrato, flutes need more respect, especially cuz y'all play all the high melody parts. more power to y'all
Set a metronome at quarter note = 60. Blow a consistent tone, and try to "pulse" the sound on every downbeat, basically just play a single vibrato each beat. When you are comfortable with that, upgrade to twice per beat, every eighth note. When that feels easy, start doing your vibrato in triplets. Eventually, upgrade to sixteenth notes. It should start to sound more like vibrato here, but a good vibrato is generally considered to be five pulses every crochet = 60 beat. This makes both a great exercise and warm up for vibrato.
And to pulse (in addition to that other comment) u need to do that with ur breathing. It's like ur a dog and u are sniffing something but u do that with ur mouth and basically u will understand once u do it bc it's harder to say than to show
FABULOUS!!! I’ve played flute since 1979 and have been teaching it since 1990 - and you two are the entire reason I love teaching so much! Thank you so much for posting this video. You were technically fantastic, but what I loved even more was how happy you seemed to be while you were performing. I’m going to repost this video on my FB teaching studio page as a wonderful example of student musicians to motivate my beginners. Best wishes for a long and happy musical career to both of you, and very Happy Holidays!
@@trud6346 KEEP PLAYING! And not *just* for the awesome musical reasons - you’ll make your very best friends in band and orchestra. You’ll get to travel. You’ll be a member of the world of musicians. (And, of course, it’ll look great on your job and/or college applications.) I hope you keep having fun!
First year of not playing this since I’ve graduated high school 😢 You guys sounded great! And are very talented, I’ve played flute many times for this song as well as piccolo. Both are really fun!
Alto sax gang 💪💪 Never cared for sleigh ride though. Most of my favorite songs to play were by Randall Standridge. I've played so maybe of his songs I've ever seen a motif in all his music lol.
I play bari sax, and I’ve played the dragon lord, when summers in the meadow, and fragile. Fragile and our the dragon lord copy was signed by him himself
You sound so goood! And ur flutes r so shinnnyyy. And I say this as someone who’s been playing flute for 5 years now and still has to get work done on her flute lol
I sit in the back (euphonium) so it was interesting to hear your part. I've played this song many, many times but I typically can only hear the brass when I play, or am focused on them because we play counter melody. Great job!
What's this? A recommendation for a tiny channel out of nowhere? And it's a super cute vid of talented winter whimsy? Yes, RU-vid! More of this please! Thanks for the charming song. 🎄💜
I have the same music the notes on the flute are so high on some parts. In the end our band director decided to not play it for the winter concert from how long it was taking to learn it with everybody. It was pretty nice once you got the hang of it.
ISTG i thought our band was unique for playing this piece but I keep seeing other bands play this lol. But this is my first concert as a freshman so what do I know?! 😂 You guys did great!
Omg I play the flute as well, and actually in my winter concert we also played sleigh ride! You guys played really well I love it! I love how theres a santa hat on your flute its adorable
Those high notes tho. I played this song 3 years in a row and still mess up in the same place 😂. Kudos to y’all you sound great! And thing above or below the staff is my no-go zone on flute even though I’ve been playing for years. These high notes always messed me up and I was still on the first part. Do y’all have two different parts for yours? Ours did but it was changed by our director.
we were going to play this in our Christmas concert but we didn’t have much time to practice it in class, and nobody took it home to practice. Y’all did so good tho❤️
i used to be a flute player but I switched to trombone, but when i used to play flute i dont think that i couldve done this at all. you guys are so talented! good job!
1. WOOO MY SCHOOL ISNT ALONE WITh CALLING IT SLAY RIDE 2. wow y'all did really well 3. unfortunately Im my school's sole piccolo player so I must say im a bit jealous you can land all the notes.
I’m an alto saxophone player and this was recommended to me after watching the two saxophone players play the same arrangement! 😂 well done you guys. I can’t wait to play this for our winter concert
Hi, greetings from Chile. I played this every Christmas with my orchestra. As a flutist i love the flute part but the piccolo it's my favourite, I miss play ❤️ congratulations!!
I play flute and violin and I must say you guys were very talented and did a great job I normally play the violin because well yeah- but we were shuffled into band because we didn't have enough people for orchestra and I always loved how the flutes play!
You guys did so good when my school tryed to play that song we olny had about a week and a half to practice it but we weren't playing it for a concert and I could never get past the trills.
i always wanted to play flute and i still have no idea how you blow into that, so i ended up joining orchestra 💔 this was a really cool perspective though!!
