One of the headline features of this year's crop of new iPhone models was support for having two cellular plans active at once - on one device.
Apple has enabled this feature by pioneering eSIM (embedded SIM) technology that allows you to use one traditional physical SIM card, and one virtual SIM installed by means of scanning a QR code.
This feature is now supported by Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, TruPhone and Gigsky. This video goes over the option, how to set it up and tips for utilizing it.

Thanks for actually showing the switching. Most of the other videos only talk about the tech. Is there the same option to choose the network when texting as well?

THANK YOU. I've gone through 4 other videos already trying to find out if you could get calls and texts from the eSIM (even just 1 is fine) and the SIM simultaneously. I am much, much better reassured now that you took the time to actually ANSWER these concerns instead of blabbering on and on about "iPhones now being a phone for travellers" (or some other crap like that) :/

I got the OnePlus 6T with dual SIM and the Pixel 2 XL for Google Fi with the e-sim. The good thing about those phones is I can get all 5 mayor carriers. With Fi I get Sprint, T-Mobile and US Cellular with the network switch and with the OnePlus AT&T and Verizon at the same time. I tried using Verizon and AT&T on the OnePlus and the experience is awesome. The first sim is on Verizon and the second sim card on AT&T. The only thing is you don't get voice and data at the same time if you use the first sim card for calls. When I use the second sim through AT&T voice and data works fine. That's kind of strange, but either way the experience is great. I would love to try the e-sim on the iPhone later on.

Great video! If I have Verizon on both sims does the data use the other line when talking on the other? Also, can you turn off both sims with an On/Off toggle? Meaning I would like to turn off each sim at different times, say turn off the work sim at night and leave on the esim, vice versa.

I wish some of the pay as you go options were able to be used. I travel once a month to an area where AT&T works and Verizon does not. I would just like to have AT&T if needed over that weekend. Not pay for the whole month.

It took two wasted hours yesterday and three hours today but I finally have my existing Verizon number ported to esim so I can easily add a physical sim when I travel to developing countries. Sometimes the bleeding edge bleeds.

HOW DID YOU DO THIS, Customer service at the store and tech support said they cant do this. Traveling soon out of the country and I would Like to have my Verizon primary sim number ported to a ESim so when I get the Philippines, I can just get a sim card there

Robert Fellows Hi Robert. The store was not able to help me and warned that doing it would leave me with 2G service. The next day I contacted Verizon through the web site chat function. It took so much time that I went through four representatives so do it from home while working on something else. One thing I did to make sure they didn’t screw up was eject the physical sim before starting. You must be on wifi. They eventually emailed a receipt to me which had the QR code to scan with my new phone, so you’ll need your old phone or a computer. They also wanted to talk with me on another line while we did the final bit. I get the same LTE I got on my previous phone - my service is NOT degraded. When I began the Verizon chat I typed that I knew from research on the internet that it could be done but that very few people at Verizon knew how to do it - this may have motivated him to make sure he could do it.

My OnePlus 6T offers this same thing for a fraction of the price Apple charges. I can also fast switch data cards from the notification shade and can enable dual 4g networks. Prepaid, postpaid, doesn't matter. Works well with Verizon LTE but doesn't support cdma, which doesn't matter at this point since that is going away.

thank you for the info...i do have a few questions. presently i have an iphone xr unlocked on verizon. which i love. however, i do plan on traveling abroad and was thinking of using google fi but don't wish to carry 2 phones. i'm assuming my xr has an esim in it. If i get google fi sim card with a new number, will i be able to use it in my iphone xr? verizon will be my primary and google fi will not only be used here in the ny/nj area, but also overseas...thank you very much for any advise you can give me...

You can just activate a Google Fi line on your phone using the eSIM. Verizon would continue to use the physical SIM card.

@@MobileInternetResourceCenter thank you for your help...i actually just found out that when i get the sim card from google fi, i have to install that one and then call verizon and they will put that number on their eSIM...either way, i'll be able to have 2 different phone numbers from 2 different carriers...which will save me a lot of pocket space...thank you once again...

Question : if I use ATT as my primary line and have unlimited everything Then I get a esim plan with talk and text only NO DATA !!! To use as a business line If one of my customers send me a picture message which i believe uses data to receive . Would I be able to receive the picture by it using my primary number data or will I just not receive the picture

You would need to get it unlocked.. Verizon doesn't lock for long however.

There is an issue with VVM on Verizon. Verizon is my primary activated on an eSIM. I have Tmobile physical sim activated as secondary carrier which I use for data only. When setup this way, I do not get VVM (voicemail) notifications. You should make a post about this to spread the word for a fix.

Is it possible to have a non supported esim Carrier with an esim supported carrier. For example have the physical sim card with Sprint and have the Esim with At&t? And of course with an unlocked iphone.

You have one physical SIM and one eSIM.

Can i use my current physical TMOBILE SIM card as ESIM so i can use another carrier sim card inserted? i have iPhone xs and my phone is unlocked. I tried to use esim tmobile app but it just let me buy a new plan, when i want to use my current tmobile one as ESIM?

You'd have to move your plan to eSIM.. and right now, they are only doing prepaid on eSIM.

Now dual sim has been out sense 2008. Now does this iPhone support LTE and HSPA+ or does one sim run LTE, HSPA+ and the other EDGE?

Dual SIM isn't a new concept at all.. but being able to run two concurrent plans/numbers at once, one via eSIM, on a consumer level device is. And yes, iPhones support all AT&T bands.

On my iPhone XR my physical sim imei is blacklisted, but my digital sim imei is fine. If I were to change my SIM card to an eSIM would I be able to use my phone again with service?

One Plus 6T is a dual SIM phone. It works with ATT, T-Mobile, Verizon, not Sprint.

I had a note 3 dual sim. Actually almost all the models released in China and India have a dual sim version . Hk iPhone has dual sim. I’m using one now. The only thing I don’t like is you can only use iMessage to one line at a time. Since you can only really run one data plan at a time. Switch between them and yes you still can get calls and texts through both at the same time

No you can buy the dual SIM S10I need Bay but it's not compatible with Verizon unfortunately I don't know why they don't do it doesn't support the C DMA network doesn't support Spring either

I need help please!! My primary account is Verizon but I only have 2gigs a month but my wife has an extra T-Mobile SIM card and that T-Mobile card has unlimited data. Is it possible to use my Verizon as my primary and the second T-Mobile esim as my primary data usage?

As far as we're aware, T-Mobile is only activating prepaid on eSIM right now. But call and confirm.

You would need to put Verizon on the esim and use the T-Mobile card and set T-Mobile for data only.

I have and prefer two active phones, both unlimited data, 15gb hotspot each, 100gb free cloud storage each, Amazon prime included free, @ $30 each line. Never have to worry about low battery!! (Also have At&t unlimited Data mobile hotspot @ $30 a month) I use the At&t hotspot as my whole home internet, no problems whatsoever.

Sprint is not yet supported on eSIM, and if you have Sprint primary and a Verizon eSIM things should mostly work as long as you are using voice over LTE.

I have a iPhone XS Max I’m using Metro By T-Mobile. I tried to setup TMobile using my esim, I kept on getting a error message. I was told that I could not use two different carriers, I was told I have to use two of the same carriers!

Nope.. not true at all. But Metro isn't yet compatible with eSIM, just direct with the carriers.

Mobile Internet Resource Center It’s 5:04 am on Saturday December 22, 2018 and my T-Mobile service has just been activate on my Apple iPhone XS Max via my esim. I had setup this service via the T-Mobile esim App at about 1pm on Friday December 21, 2018. It took 16 hours for my service to be activated. I was bounced around to 12 different representatives for about three plus hours. Most of the representatives knew nothing about esim Technology, T-Mobile esim app, and that T-Mobile offered esim service. The last representative I spoke to, about 9:30pm. I knew I was talking to someone who knew what he was talking about, when he asked me what was my ICCID#. None of the other 12 representatives asked me that question, 12 hours later I have service via my esim. That was the Worst Experience Ever, Thank You for the video; and your info!

Some of them do - but you need to be careful, the model sold by T-Mobile has just one SIM. I did however mention this and recommend the bought-direct OnePlus 6T in the accompanying article.

Samsung has not done an eSIM phone yet, though it is expected in 2019. Sone international versions of the Note 9 and a few other Samsung models support dual physical SIM cards, but the North American models have just a single SIM slot.

For our audience - RVers and cruisers who are relying on cellular - we're more in the 5% who can regularly utilize having two or more active data plans.
