Wonderful episode. I've just added both those books to my to-read list. And please do make more psychology book recommendations. Psychology is something that effects all our lives (usually when we're least aware of it), so I'm always interested in learning more about it.

Thank you Gail for your kind words. I agree with you about the importance of Psychology to our lives. Unfortunately we don’t learn much about it during our school years. Although this knowledge could help us to better understand how to lead others, how to maintain a relationship, how to find answers when raising kids etc. I’m happy that you liked the episode and I wish you a nice day🌟📖📚🌟

They are my favourite books too. Kahneman, you and I bought it on the same day in the same bookshop in Woluwe. And the Lucifer Effect I bought second-hand in a bookshop in Edinburgh I enjoy your episodes of books and bones! David Ducheyne

Thank you for the recommendations! I have been meaning to read the Lucider effect for the longest time. The Stanford experiment is fascinating! There's so many takeaways from it. From power and Injustice to our propensity to cross the line to savage behaviour. Thank you for reminding me to pick up the book. I will do so promptly! Love your content! Don't stop making these fascinating videos!

I think it was either Joseph Heller or Curt Vonnegut who said, ‘everyone is capable of everything’. But this everyone and everything is perhaps too extreme. The psyop conducted by Zambardo did show that many people, college students in his study, who had no known history of sadism were nonetheless capable of cruel punishments inflicted on others who were under their control and with the authority given them by Zambardo, himself. But not all. There were some who refused and were eliminated from participating. These are the important characters in history and indeed for our own day. This small remnant of human material are the ones that make the world livable.

Hi @carlharmeling512, thank you for sharing your thoughts. Indeed it is the people who speak up when injustice happens that make the difference. However this takes courage. I agree with you that these people help to make this world a better place. As Kennedy said: “One man can make a difference. And everyone should try”. I wish you a nice WE and hope to welcome you back on my channel. Lieven

I found the use of punctuation in the title of Daniel Kahneman's book interesting. Not Thinking Fast and Slow, but Thinking, Fast and Slow, which connotes a different meaning. The first is thinking both fast AND slow, but the second places the emphasis on the act of thinking, which could be done fast, or be done slowly. That said, this book was (I'm retired) foundational to my work as an auditor, since it highlighted a number of elemental logical fallacies.

Thank you for these recommendations. The first one... often we see news stories about parents who torture and kill their own children, and I wonder if this book would throw any light on this rare but devastating pattern of behaviour, and offer any hope of supporting families in future. Second book, equally fascinating, and considering decision making for life choices - I wonder (as I have just "retired" ) if you have any suggestions (pitched at the lay reader) for the psychology of decision making, and useful philosophical approaches for later life. On a totally irrelevant note, I love the cartoons and drawings, and colourful Rorschach prints accompanying your presentation - are they your own?
