Today I am sharing all the details of two Vogue 9253 dresses which I recently made.
I'm chatting about altering the deep V-neck in two different ways, working with tricky fabric like chiffon and more.
I've also styled the two dresses with two beautiful necklaces kindly gifted to me from Happiness Boutique:

Hi Susie, I made this dress last month and filmed how to do a narrow hem on the bottom hem, it is possible doing it over a seam, you have to cut an angle in the seam to get it to go through your narrow hemfoot, if you have a look at my channel you should find the vlog on there ‘How to sew a narrow hem’ if you want to have a look, ~I love your version, I have this fabric too but haven’t made it up yet and yes spray starch is an absolute lifesaver!

Top notch Suzie and I have to say I haven’t tackled chiffon or in fact anything fine in over 20 years because of all the problems you’ve had!! This sewing world is so much better now as we can find hints and tips that help but nothing as good as your skills and patience 🥰 keep up the fantastic vlogs and sterling workmanship I love it x

No problem at all!!! Spray starch for the win, and I'm very glad it worked for you. :) Both your dresses are gorgeous, and I'm jealous of your rolled hems. Last time I did them, they looked like the cats had sewn them - and that was with spray starch. I LOVE the cross-over detail you did on the neckline, that's a brilliant idea. The lilac maxi is my favourite, but you know I love a maxi, and that big sparkly neckline is am-az-ing!! Enjoy your hols, and I'll see you soon. Lynne
@Threadquarters
@Threadquarters 5 лет назад
Thanks Lynne! Isn't that necklace gorgeous! So much bling! Oh, some of my rolled hems weren't perfect, but I did watch a youtube tut on it which helped....lots of pressing before sewing seems to help.

These dresses are such a triumph - and your chiffon dress in particular is to die for! I hope you feel very very proud of what you have achieved and I bet you feel a million dollars in them. What fantastic solutions you developed to make them right for you - they are finished to such an exemplary standard!

I love the final versions of both dresses. They’re very beautiful and really suit you. As for the rayon, I bought a viscose/cotton mix from Sea Salt and, although I love what I made with it, I hated the process as it frayed and pulled really easily. I thought it was just me as I’m quite new to sewing but I know others had the same problem. It’s a shame as it takes away the joy of making the garment. I particularly love the pink dress 🥰

Wow both dresses look gorgeous.The amount of work you've put into the chiffon dress is amazing and well worth it.It looks stunning on you. I prefer the belt separate.When I had floaty fabric and a belt I cut stiff interfacing to fit around my waist then covered the centre of the belt with this but left the ends flow.This way it gave more shape around the waist rather than have the belt roll on itself. You should be so proud of the finish on the dress,your hand stitching is faultless.Thanks also for the tip about altering the shape of the front of the dress where it wraps.It looks so much better rather than sew up the front to close it. The blue dress looks lovely to.I presume you used a new fine ballpoint needle when sewing.I would contact the seller ,let them know the problem and ask for advice. Once again,you look gorgeous.

Thank you, Suzi! I have been seeing all your vlogs during the last three weeks, and I am SO inspired! I have some experience with sewing, but there is many years since I actually sew something. Only made a couple of ufos... Now I want to make some of the tops that you have made. Some of them looks not too complicated for me. I need some inspiration for my sewing space, witch I have found i your vlogs. I am impressed over your new approach to sewing, the more sustainable way and the tailoring way. You are competent and skillful in all I can see you are doing; sewing, making videos, presentation, and more. Your sweet and honest personality makes it all a pleasure! Thank you! 💚 Wish you all the best. Siri from Norway

Beautiful dresses. I made this in liberty cotton lawn as a toile. I like the way you did the front wrap whereas I added to the piece and sewed it higher. I might try your way at as it looks lovely. I was always meant to make it again. I’d like to make it a bit longer next time but not fully maxi, just long midi. I’m going now to look at my stash. I love that green fabric so it was a good tip about the threads pulling. Lisa Comfort made a Ravello dress in it. ( from her summer dreaming book)😊

Thank you for a great insight into this pattern. I have been thinking about getting it for so long but like you, I am between medium and large. Watched the Stitch Sisters review which I enjoyed but didn't like the deep plunge of the V neck and rather than just stitch it up I much prefer your overlap method. Both of your dresses are gorgeous but the chiffon one is divine !! You must have sew much patience 😍👍. Would you recommend extending the shaping of the bottom of the V to overlap or is there enough fabric in the bodice to allow for it as in the blue dress......both versions looked great. I am now a subscriber and looking forward to catching up on your previous videos. Xx
