Very impressive fly. What fly does this imitate? What other material can you use for wing? I am not familiar with Aero dry wing. I really appreciate your ties. Thank you, Jack

Great fly Davie, I've never seen a bad one you have tied but I have to say it anyway. Does Fulling Mill have any distributors in America. I like some of the hooks I have seen, particularly this one. I can't find Fulling Mill here but I can find some Partridge. Maybe some of those shops I have seen the Partridge can get them from Fulling Mill. Thanks for your time in answering this question. Sean

I found the website after finishing watching it flew by, I stopped the screen and found the United States website. Thanks anyway. All the best to you and your family. God Bless, Sean

Hello Davie, Great fly as always. I was wondering why you wax thread only when you want extra hold or adherence? Wouldn't you always want that? Why not use waxed threads? Keep up the good work, I am learning lots and can't tell you how thankful I am for your sharing this with us all. Thanx, Bubba
@DavieMcPhail
@DavieMcPhail 7 лет назад
Hi Bubba, Waxing your thread will give you extra grip when needed as well it will strengthen the thread giving you more confidence keeping the thread turns much tighter..I do use waxed threads but they do need a a little extra at times especially when tying on hackles and wings..I'm glad you liked the fly... All the very best Davie...

That is a beauty of a tie, Davie. Thank you. I've been meaning to ask and this spent spinner reminded me... have you a copy of Ed Engle's "Tying Small Flies"? Mike
@DavieMcPhail
@DavieMcPhail 8 лет назад
Hi Mike, I don't have a copy though a friend of mine has a copy as I mind of him talking about it, he lived in America for a few years as this is where he bought it..He's wanting a book I have so I may swap him as it looks like a book I would like to have a look at...I'm glad you liked the spinner pattern... All the very best Davie

"Tying Small Flies" is one of the fly fishing books I have that I've read a number of times. Every trip through it I find more things and get better understandings, but then, I'm on a lot steeper part of the learning curve than you are, I feel. Any ways, if you are able to access the book, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Mike Oh... the spent spinner connection... a large spinner section, with a spinner tied specifically to sink. And then there is Roger Hill's Stillborn Midge... =]

Hi Fly Bookie's, It does float though it's a fly you need to keep a good eye on due to it laying flat on the surface though if you are targeting fish you can see it ok..ATB Davie

would this fly work for still waters? I live in the British Columbia Interior and we have lots of mayflies.

Hi Lachlan Thistlethwaite, Yes these flies do work on the lochs just as well as they do on the river... All the very best Davie
