80s heavyweight criminally underrated. highly competitive, everyone was beating each other. people look back at that was a bad thing.... to me it showed how good they all were. no one was dominating outside of Holmes and Tyson. Great Era. after the 70s i think the 80s was the best.
@matthewnikitas2904

To me I think the 90’s crop of heavy weights was better. Holyfield, Riddick Bowe and an out of prime but not yet washed up Tyson, George Foreman, Michael Moorer, Lennox Lewis and a lot of other good guys like Botha David Tua Chris Byrd Bert Cooper Tommy Morrison

@James Ross Well they usually did up to and including title shots. Then they were just glad to win the belt and trained off of drugs and hookers. But once Tyson came to the scene they felt a victory over him meant instant fame, more so than winning the title.

Biggs only a pro for a year and looked pretty sensational here. Boxing was hyping up Biggs as the Ali of the 80's and on a crash course with Mike Tyson.

Dunno about that, the one fighter in the 80's that was really hype as the next Ali was Greg Page.
@30over3
@30over3 2 года назад
@@edp4638 I agree. Many 80's heavies were called the next Ali. That style flooded the heavyweight scene from the late 70's onwards. Page and Biggs were part of that wave. Tillis, Tubbs, Tucker, Douglas, were some of the others.

Wow.. fantastic fights of Tyrell Biggs.. Really a good heavyweight... If he was not involved in drugs .I honestly think he could might be have been a heavyweight champion 🏆..but unfortunately for Biggs it all never happened..but still he was a good specimen of heavyweight..and good fighters.. We should give credit to him..along his wonderful career....

Nah! He just didn't have the raw talent to unseat the greats. He wasn't beating Bruno, Lewis, Tyson, Bowe, Foreman, Holyfield, Ruddock, etc. He might've had a chance against a Mercer, Moorer, McCall, Morrison (damn that's alot M's 😂). He was a second tier gate keeper to the champs. Solid fighter overall.

I just wonder if he had a mentor or a trainer like Mike tyson had..like cuz d'ammato..I probably think biggs would be a great fighter back then could possibly be a great heavyweight champion..if he was in good camp..and had a great mentor..

MIKE TYSON didnt reach his full PRIME at age 19 when he fought TILLIS, thats why he struggled in 10 rds to beat him . TYSON was 22 Years Old & was in more of his PRIME when he fought TYRELL BIGGS, and thats why TYRELL BIGGS was destroyed in 7 brutal Rds. Biggs and Tillis was good fighters..and Biggs physical of heavyweight was top norch his style was excellent.he was like real model of a great heavyweight...u know .. the true facts is ....they can beat today's era's heavyweight top fighters like Antony Joshua, usyk deontay wilder, Andy Ruiz,most of all fighters.... undoubtedly.! bcoz past era's fighters have good potential skills and speed. Compare to today's era heavyweight doesn't have any of it...they were only bigg and tall.. that's all !! most of them are bumms..too! Sorry guy's!!

JAMES TILLIS fought the 19 year old inexperienced TYSON who had 3 weeks off from training because of an injury he suffered from falling off his Pigeon Coop. TYSON was not 100% against TILLIS, and the Fully Prime TYSON of 1988 would've knocked out TILLIS in 3 rds.

@Myndir
@Myndir 5 лет назад
Amateurs (1) fight to win 3 rounds, so don't work the body a lot, (2) look for eye-catching punches, rather than e.g. short painful blows, and (3) don't go for knockouts so much. Biggs also tended to punch and get ready to slip at the same time. He could have been a harder puncher (with those long limbs, he could have even had Lennox Lewis-style power) but tended to "paint" his opponents rather than punch through the target.
