The fact Fury repeatedly tried to clinch with a man who came from MMA where wrestling is a thing was one of the worst cases of ring IQ I've seen in such a high level boxer

The thought he could tire Ngannou by his bodyweight the same way he did Deontay and Otto Wallin. Unfortunately he was much stronger and had good sneaky and heavy punches at close range, the rocked Fury. He deserved it.

Francis has a habit of beating his opponents at their own game, did it in the UFC and now he did it against Fury damn near matching the champ's fundamentals and controlling him in the clinch where Fury has always been dominant.

I think Francis out muscling him in the clinch really surprised Fury, Francis was controlling him and even big brothering him in the clinch 8/10 times, giving Fury no time to rest while tiring his opponent.

It's not surprising given fury has relied on that advantage in every single fight he's ever had. Now all of a sudden he's in with somebody he's expected to school but his most relied upon method of controlling and grinding his opponent was gone lol.

It wasn’t even just outmuscling, he was using techniques that boxers just don’t train for. Whenever Fury ties up he immediately plants his feet and tries to lean over the opponents back and drop his weight on them. Most fighters anticipating a quick separation would let it happen. Whenever Fury tried to lock up with Ngannou, Ngannou would grab an underhook and start driving Fury backwards, so Fury couldn’t plant his feet and be offensive in the clinch.

You're hardly a hardcore boxing fan if you think that..Usyk was the one who dodged the fight a year ago because he wanted a rematch clause. Usyk also got knocked out by Daniel Dubois in his last fight and played the referee that he was winded. It's hardly a fight of 2 elites when they do fight, one nearly losing to a novice and the other losing to the might Daniel Dubois. Fury’s best performance was in the Wilder rematch. He weighed in at 273 for that fight but was carrying more muscle mass and much less fat. He was actually motivated for that fight and it was probably one of the only training camps he really took seriously. His brother Shane took the lead during that camp and it brought out the best in Tyson. Tyson needs someone who can tell him how it really is instead of being a yes man. Otherwise he’s reckless.

@howabouthetruth2157 8 месяцев назад
You hit the nail on the head. Fury came into this Ngannou fight heavier than any previous fight, and it was fat, not muscle mass. His young age is no excuse for being so heavy, and he thought his sheer weight would give Ngannou trouble, much like it did against Wilder, and he was dead wrong. I also agree with you about Fury's self discipline during training. The man has more natural talent than anyone in the division ( except for perhaps Usyk ), yet his discipline on training & weight management is working totally against him. It's almost as if he knows he's so damned good, he doesn't have to take himself seriously enough, and it nearly cost him this fight. I've watched this fight against Ngannou 3 times now, just to critique my own scoring ( I've been heavy into boxing for over 55 yrs now) and although I did score the fight all 3 times for Fury 96 to 93, he still looked sluggish and definitely ill-prepared for this fight. Hopefully he learned his lesson: Always take every opponent as a very serious threat........even if it's someone's grandmother.

Not many people are talking about how good Ngannou looked going SOUTHPAW. I've followed his career since the beginning and he rarely switches to southpaw in MMA. @TheGreatest1974

It wasn’t how bad Fury was, it was what Ngannou DID that made this a hard fight for Fury. Francis refused to be bullied or intimidated, refused to let Fury lean all over him to tire him, refused to fall for Fury’s jerky feints, and was patient enough most of the time to WAIT, let Fury throw first then counter punched Fury. Fury was worried after feeling Francis power in the 2nd round, then when he got decked he was shocked beyond belief. He saw the possibility that with one punch he may suffer the biggest embarrassment ever in the history of any sport. Don’t be fooled by the calm and matter of fact demeanour of Fury since the fight. He is embarrassed and shocked that this absolute novice who had never had a single boxing match could deliver this nightmare upon him. But Francis is an absolute natural fighter, and by all accounts a very fast learner, he’s been training mma for years now, wasn’t overawed by the size of the event or the mountain in front of him, but grabbed it with both hands. I thought he did enough good work to win the fight. 👍🇬🇧

crazy that you guys have to make excuses for him when every advantage was in his court, height, reach, weight, the sport, the 12 week camp, coming in uninjured and only after a year off. Francis is older, smaller, lighter, has shorter arms, had a shorter camp, was coming in of an acl injury and 2 years off fighting. it wasn't the former unless you have extreme bias. Francis isn't Chisora or Whyte he's not a bum and fury knew that hence the long camp

The Wladimir Vs Fury boxing match was an extraordinary display of two fighters carefully circling each other for 12 rounds. And this despite Wladimir having possibly the highest KO rate of any heavyweight boxer. The Wilder/Fury version Fury was a lot better from a spectator viewpoint.

I've been waiting for this review. Great Rocky reference and really accurate. Fury has lost the eye of the tiger. The biggest issue is that he doesn't fight. Fighters fight. Ali, Tyson, Foreman, Lewis, Holyfield and more. They fought and justified their position as champions or top contenders. The current heavyweight division is embarrassing at their lack of ambition. At least AJ is fighting whether you rate him or not, but Fury and Wilder are pretenders. I hope either Fury raises his activity levels or loses soon, as he still is the lineal champion and that means something to me if not to him.

Agreed. Tyson Fury is easily the least active champion Heavyweight of the last 120 years. He's had just 9 fights since 2015. He's defended his WBC belt a mere 3 times. The sport drastically needs restructuring, but whilesoever the promoters run the game with kickbacks to the various alphabet Federations, the sport is doomed. What boxing really needs is a World Championship tournament each year. And ONLY the winner of that tournament should be allowed to call themselves World Champ.

Usyk is the same size as Haye, who was very successful in the HW division. But Haye had that insane one punch power, and Usyk might lack the power but he DOES have the highest ring IQ and technical skills in the division by far. Fury will HAVE to KO Usyk, and if he doesn't, then Usyk glides to a lopsided and easy points victory.

I politely disagree! I had it the other way, a Fury win, but only by two or three rounds. Plus there wasn't that much of a size discrepancy between the two. Fury was only slightly taller than Ngannou. Fury likes to bully and lean on his usually smaller opposition. Tiring them out with his usual extra weight and height. But he wasn't able to push Ngannou around , something that Tyson Fury isn't used to.

Maybe that sort of cold shower reality check is what Fury really needed. Once upon a time Ali lost to Ken Norton, having his jaw broken. But that experience only helped him in big picture, because it motivated him to train hard, trim down and focus more. He ended up winning rematch with Norton, avenging his previous loss to Frazier and then upsetting Foreman in the Rumble. Only time can tell.

Thing is Ali was an alien. And 4 years younger at that point than Fury now. With better overall form. Think it was a little bit of both, however it was more that Tyson did NOT take that fight seriously at all. It was arguably the worst performance of his career to date. Also, I think he fell in love with his ability to brawl rather than box, ever since the Wilder fights. He showed tremendous skill against Wlad but that was a looong time ago. Ever since he basically brawled his way to the top, and now he thinks he can rough out any opponnent out there, I have absolutely no doubt that that's what he intended to do with Usyk, given that he was calling him a middleweight and a midget every chance he could. Ngannou proved to be tougher and more resillient than we thought, however he did not display any outstanding technical prowess in that night, he just had a big, fat target in front of him. I do want to see more fights from him and watch him get better at boxing but I really wouldn't be surprised if he lost against the likes of Hrgovic, Wardley, Johnny Fisher, etc. As for Tyson, hope this humbled him a bit and forced him to go back to the drawing board, he won't keep winning just because he's a 6ft9 barrell shaped boxer.

I've been a Ngannou fan for years, but honestly this physical, clinch-heavy iteration of Fury was a great match-up for him. I'm not sure if he'll look this good against a faster HW, like Usyk. It would be like his fight against Gane, but this time he can't wrestle his way to victory. Would be very happy if I'm proven wrong.

I just want an interview from Fury that tells us how hard Francis hits compared to Wilder. I wonder if he'd be honest.

Some one asked him this, can't remember who, or what he said though, I kind of switch off when Fury speaks.

Wilder has insane power in that one cheat code punch of his, but Ngannou has that Sonny Liston ability to make damn near any type of punch hurt.

10:10-10:15 in the video shows Ngannou hitting Fury with illegal punches. He should have been deducted points or disqualified.

ngannou didnt put much on his punches against fury, so his punches werent as powerful as wilder but ngannou got more power than wilder

I saw an interview where he said he was a strong puncher but couldn't really compare because Ngannou didn't hit him particularly clean. Yeah, I know he decked Fury, but it was a grazing counter shot, not full blooded, wasn't it?

Also, not a fan of you mentioning Ngannou’s age as if he is just this old man withering away. Francis is in his prime.

I feel as though it is most relevant in the fact that it is a very old age to switch disciplines and have such success. he would be on the tail end of his prime for a heavyweight anyway but to switch sports and learn a whole new one at that age is remarkable

at 37 he doesn’t have long though. most people aren’t in their prime anyone at that age.

The title of this video is spot on. With Fury it is up and down.
