What people don't understand is the meaning of "Hall of Fame". Its not always about being No. 1, he's been a really exciting fighter and given us some of the most memorable knockouts (no matter the opposition) that are just had to forget. He deserves a place in it, and I hope to see him back in the ring again.

@@magacop5180Parker is just simply a better fighter in every single area of boxing except for power. Parker was just technically too good for wilder. A long reign of tomato cans doesn't mean greatness just shrewd management. His best victory remains a 40-50 yr old Ortiz. I can't believe this is even a discussion among serious boxing fans. He shouldn't get in even though he probably will, due to recognition and highlight KO's.

what could he have done differently? AJ ducked him whole career and he faced the other best heavyweight of his era. His showdown against Povetkin and some other fighter i cannot remember the name right now were called off due to them using substances(also happened with Ortiz when he was a bit younger). He simply beat all the other best fighters, like Rummy said most of them were top5/top10 and former challangers.

For people wondering about Joe Louis's 26th title fight. It was on November 11th 1944. Louis was supposed to fight an exhibition with Johnny Davis but the NY boxing said "we do not fight exhibitions" so JL title was on the line. 53 seconds into the fight JL hit JD who 'fell like a crowbar' and was unconscious for 5 minutes. It's on boxrec.

Wilder beat Helenius and Helenius beat Liakhovhich and Liakhovich beat Brewster and Brewster beat Wladimir Klitschko. AJ and Fury made their names by beating a older Klitschko so clearly they are below Brewster who is below Liakhovich who is..... Point is going down the line of "who did he beat" does not mean much. Ortiz was a boogeyman and beat a number of notable contenders like Jennings, Scott, Martin, Hammer and so forth. Beating him twice is not a bad achievement.

+Rummy’s Corner I think you gave a fair and honest analysis of Wilder’s career. An important thing to remember is his career’s context. Wilder was a college basketball player who dropped out in order to work 2 jobs to support his newborn daughter with spina bifida. He then started boxing as a way to make a better life for his family at age 20 in (2005). By 2007 he upset the favorites in both competitions to win the national Golden gloves and U.S. Championships and by 2008, he won Bronze in the Beijing Olympics. Everyone should Keep this in mind when we view his career. Wilder is a true inspiration to all. He is the epitome of a career underdog. If Sylvester Stallone made it into the HOF for making some movies, then Wilder with all certitude deserves to be in the HOF.

I don't know the round because the fight has been scrubbed from the internet, and hidden away.... anyways Wilder being devoid of basic boxing fundamentals got clobbered and went down into the ropes. The word is the ref long counted, basically "carried him" to retape a glove or have the doctor check somthing to the rounds end. Wilder managed to get his shit together and win later in the fight. Mind you the details are speculation, pieced together because The Bomb Squad PR team had the fight erased to save their meal ticket from being derailed. This also lends me to believe the speculation to be true. The craziest thing about Wilder is that he started boxing at 20 years old. If he had just been lucky enough to be born into a family of Boxers, or even FANS of Boxing and he started I'm his early to mid teens...he'd have that crazy power AND much better fundamentals, footwork, etc. Still an incredible talent tho. Think it is taken for granted how so many Boxers were either put into a sports program at a young age like the Klitschkos were, or guys who had family super involved in Boxing...Mayweather and Fury come to mind. Gives you a massive advantage when you start training at like 10 and your firet matches are at 12-14 years old!

Good video man. He'll probably get in because he's a heavyweight and famous. The problem is with several of his opponents, They were magically ranked within weeks and even days of the fight so there's a lot of question marks about why those guys were ranked. Stiverne hadn't fought in nearly 2 years and shouldn't have been ranked at all. Again, he'll probably get in, but he's the most protected heavyweight champion in modern history, the Kkitchkos at least fought everyone they could. Lewis and Wilder ducked Wlad. AJs record is better, Usyks record after February 17th will be better 😉. Fury is also a question mark to me. If he beats Usyk then yes.

I don't know if Wilder draws, or loses to Fury, if the version of Wilder that had that confrontation with him after the Szpilka Fight. All I'll say about that first Fury Fight is anytime a guy is FLAT BACKED the way Fury was in that 12th Round, the Fight gets stopped. Just look at any other time Wilder did exactly that to another guy, or any other Fight, where a guy gets dropped like Fury did. I also believe that Fury purposely lied about the COVID stuff, because he knew he wasn't going to win, had the Fight taken place on the original Date. No one will ever convince me otherwise. I think he deserves to be a Hall Of Famer, but won't be surprised, or too upset if he doesn't get in. I just really love how people really act like the Heavyweight Crop was so deep during Wilder's run.

Ingama Johansen,Sonny Liston and Ken Norton are in the IBHF and their records in title fights isn't that impressive as Wilders but they have been involved in famous fights against "history makers" so Wilder will be inducted in time, and i can't believe Marlon Starling hasn't been inducted yet either that needs correcting.

Really good video. I think you could argue that Fury's record isn't exactly a list of heavyweight royalty either. I think they'll both get in for the trilogy fights alone, deservedly so, as I agree those were historically significant because they captured the public imagination and brought a lot of eyes on heavyweight boxing.

5th longest reign at heavyweight with one wbc belt. What were the title defences for the wbc, he devalued the belt. The real belts at heavyweight was the ones wladimir Klistchko had. His title defences were against fighters who didn’t even qualify to fight for the belt and that’s why the belt was devalued in the modern era

Don’t even compare him to Ali. Ali defended against killers and was undisputed. Wilder held his belt hostage and fought bums. We saw when he stepped up how terrible he is. Wilder isn’t even a top 5 HW of his era

Boxing, in my opinion, is all about who you beat. Your record has weight, but who you beat and where you stood in your era is the greatest indicator. With that, I can’t say his resume is that impressive. Respect to him though.

Another fantastic analysis, Rummy. I honestly don't think Deontay Wilder got the love and respect he deserved. When I was growing up, American heavweights were the dominant force in world championship boxing, with us British fans literally terrified of our Frank Bruno going up against James Bonecrusher Smith and Iron Mike Tyson. In my view, Wilder kept US interest in boxing relevant. No, his opponent quality record isn't great, but I think he should be given credit for the long reign, his exciting knockout power, and incredible heart (as shown in Fury III and the Parker fight). He came up short againnst a current and also a former world champion. That's no disgrace. Also, his personal story about fighting to provide for his family, especially his daughter who has spina bifida....I think he's great. If he never fights again, I think that's okay. He's much loved in the UK :)

I'm not a big Wilder fan but surely he should get in for his freakish one-punch knockout power. No one else has ever done that quite like him - no wind-up at all. The fact that he achieved what he did with just heart and a big punch make it even more impressive somehow.

Of course he gets in. No other fighter has stopped or dropped everyone he ever fought. Until Parker, Wilder had. BTW, if you include Ali's wins over Quarry & Bonavena as lineal title defences (& you should, considering the outrageous way in which he was stripped / suspended) Ali also managed 10 defences in his first reign.

I have not watched the video yet but, No i don't think he should, but he was the WBC champ for 5 years, although he lacked quality opposition, he still reigned for a few years and will probably be the last American champion in the next few years, he was popular and did have a legacy as a big puncher at least, i really believe that the voters will look at his legacy more so than his actual accomplishments.

I am a big believer that these decisions should not be made until at least 10 years after a fighter's retirement. It takes that lng to let their successes and shortcomings sink in to most people. Look at the respect that people rightfully give Larry Holmes and Sonny Liston now compared to when they were active.

Im not too sure on whats the standard to get into the HOF. But I like Wilder for his activity during his title reign. Although we all wanted him vs Joshua, both Joshua and Wilder were at least fighting often during that time. Nevertheless, I dont think Wilders career is over and any fights he has from now should very much still be considered in his HOF induction. Hopefully we still see him vs Joshua regardless if theres belts on the line

5 of Wilder's opponents during his title reign were ranked inside the top 5 by ring magazine? HOW?? I mean, I get that Furyx2 and Ortiz x2 make up four of them, but how on earth is there a fifth?! Wilder will get into the HOF because of the number of title defences he made and his knockout percentage. But he doesn't deserve to be there. He's fought 3 fighters in his career that people might remember beyond their retirement, and lost to two of them.
