This has been reviewed several times before, but wanted to share my thoughts on why i feel this is a truly versatile monoband unit. Never limit your modes of communication. This is an inexpensive way to expand those lines of communication.

What I found on some radios of this and other types/brands is that the RF power output varies from one end of the band to the other. On my TYT 440 band radio I get MORE power down on the low end of this band 441.0 Mhz (about +4 watts) than up at 449.0 Mhz. I determind this with a dummy load so it is a function of the radio, not the antenna. In the long run the 4 watts makes little difference when all is said & done. I am planning to purchase the TYT 220 radio you are showing. 73!

I just bought this (hope it’s the 220), and noticed in the manual (page 61) that max power is 60 watts wide band FM, 45 watts narrow band FM. And then, at the bottom of the page, “Wide band is not available for USA and Canada version.”

It looks like you are using RG-58 coax for the antenna connection. I have found that larger (.4") coax works much better for 2m and higher frequencies. Thanks for the information. I'll be buying a 1.25m radio soon. Jim N4FAF (Loudoun County)

So am I to believe that this 9000D can work on the FRS-GMRS freqs
@farmhousehamradio4774
@farmhousehamradio4774 6 дней назад
@@geobeau7004 the c model may. Not the one that i featured in this video. I do want to point out that if you do use the 9000d to transmit on gmrs frequencies,you leave yourself open to face fines from the fcc as it is not fcc approved for use on gmrs frequencies. So do so at your own risk

Is the 224.2 off the air? It used to be on the same mountain where many of the other repeaters are.

It's still there Joe. But just decided to demonstrate what realistically the range is with my current setup. I have K3MAD programed in there.

Question new to ham: Can you explain band, offset, repeaters etc. Also does this model function as a repeater in itself, or is a designated repeater required.

I apologize for the delayed response as I didn't receive notification of your comment. that is alot to type out here in the comment section of this. but I do have other videos explaining all of this. Other you tubers have also done videos to explain the use of repeaters and offsets. Very simple to learn with the right information.

I have 2 of 2M version of these that I got several years ago. They have an "alarm feature" that likes to go off randomly. When they do it, you may need to clean your shorts. They have been living in a box of junk for the last few years and will stay there until I find a fix for this. My wife was ready to put a bullet in the one in our truck when it went off on her. Fortunately I haven't had the dreaded dead battery but I did come out to find the thing wailing away one day. If anyone knows of a fix for this I'm interested.

Can it be unlocked for 70cm/2m?
@farmhousehamradio4774
@farmhousehamradio4774 22 дня назад
@@jinks6410 this model is specifily a monoband unit for 220 mhz. They sell these units in 2m, 70cm, and 220 mhz all under the same model number "th-9000d. So if you shop on amazon you have to make sure you chose the right band you want to use it for. So to make a short answer to your question a little longer....no it cannot be unlocked to operate outside its designated bandwith. It is purely a monoband radio.

I also kinda made that obvious in the first 1 1/2 of the video

Unfortunately I only have the 220 MHz version of this radio. So I have no way of testing that.
