Good job, Steve. One job I didn't do was the rear bearings. Good on you for tackling them!

I figured that I had the Trunion housings out, so why not?

Baby steps. Looking good. I'm surprised that inner bearing just slipped right in with bare hands. Nice

Thanks!! If I can do it, I think anyone can. I started with just some basic hand tools.

You don't need a press to do u-joints...the vise and a socket is all you need. Use a socket that fits through the yoke, fit the u-joint into the yoke offset to the side where the first cap will be inserted. Put the cap in place so that the u-joint is partially in the cap ( I usually smear a bit of grease into the cap to hold the bearings in place). Now place the assembly into the vise and crank it closed to push the cap into the yoke. Once the cap is flush, open the vise and put the socket onto the cap and use the vise to continue to push the cap further into the yoke until the opposite u-joint end contacts the vice jaw. Remove the assembly from the vise and take the next cap (with a smear of grease to hold the bearings in place) and lift the u-joint until it's proud of the yoke by just enough to get the next cap started. On the other side where the first cap is pushed in past the circlip slot, install the circlip so that it will stop the first cap from being pushed out of the yoke. Now push the second cap into the yoke using the vice and the small socket until the first cap is against the circlip, and the second cap should now be fully installed to where the second circlip can be inserted. Repeat this process for the second axis of the u-joint and the installation will be complete with no dropped bearings.

Totally agree. But I have the press, so why not use the right tool for the job?

@@StevesProjectCarGarage I'm not sure that a press is the right tool for this particular job. It may be overkill. In all my years as an auto mechanic, I never used a press to replace u-joints. Just a vise and a socket.

That's fair. I just re-read the manual and is says to use a vice. Good call!

I completely agree with Steve on this. A hand cranked vice gives more 'feel' than a hydrulic press. I have seen many joints and yokes wreaked by miss use of a hydrulic press. The inner seal on the hub should be put in 'Lips out' that seal is designed to let excess grease out and not let water of contaminants in. If that seal does not let grease out, when greasing it is possible to blow the outer seal and have grease on your brake linings.

I hit the dislike button by accident! This has been another great video. I agree with replacing the rusty parts, not much money for new fresh parts.
