When their career is finally over, U2 will not only leave behind one of the biggest footprints in the history of rock, they'll leave behind one of the biggest footprints in the history of music. Their 'competition' isn't just rock legends like The Beatles, Elvis, Bob Dylan, Led Zeppelin, and The Rolling Stones-- it's people like Mozart, Beethoven, Duke Ellington, and George Gershwin. Anyone who doesn't understand this needs to listen to U2's ENTIRE catalog, which rivals anyone's-- EVER.
Their footprints will also be "printed" in the lives of many people. Like in mine, band has changed my life so much. It makes me emotional that four men can do that (well Lanois, Eno and Flood are also a part of it of course!)
Bought Pop in 2003 (Jesus, time flies) Never regretted it. Far from it. Record's a freaking masterpiece. And this song just takes it to a whole new level of greatness.
This is why I love Bono. This is why I love U2. They just put so much emotion into their music that it cuts straight to the heart. Love you boys, keep up the great work :)
09bassplaya if it wasn't for older brother I wouldn't know the serenity that this band is. My friends loved to hate on me for liking this band. Their loss
The body of Christ is within us, if we awaken to the moral tales; the tales of compassion for the poor, the ill, and the tales of justice against greed and corruption. Thanks Bono, Dave, Larry, and Adam for reawakening these values within my soul. Peace.
Few bands can do it because few bands have the diverse back-catalogue to do it with. I'm referring to pacing a concert experience perfectly - changing the temperature just with song choice. Heating up a space, cooling it down; just manipulating the mood and shifting it like moods in a great movie. You get a sonic rage that knocks your ears off, a cold quiet beauty like this then churned up again to white heat. But then few bands have a selection of tracks that can go from Drowning Man to MOFO, from Discoteque to Cedars of Lebanon, from Your Blue Room to Bullet the Blue Sky, from Lemon to New Years Day.
I lost my belive in god and religion long time ago, cause of my childhood with my father. But when i was lying on my bed, listening to this song, the strong lyrics and the great voice i just started thinking again. started believing again. Thanks so much for posting this video!
These shortened versions from the Elevation Tour were beautiful and heartfelt but they felt a little too short indeed. It's a shame this great song has never appeared live again since then.
I use to think this song was about physically dying. This song is really about being alive... but your soul has died and you have become apathetic towards life.
For those who are arguiening about the filiming in one or two days... It's recorded in TWO different nights, even though MOST of the footage is from September 1st 2001, second night. There are a fewe shots (Streets, SBS, mostly Until The End Of The World) where you can notice the footage from the first concert. In UTEOTW there are even daily images mixed with the night ones... :-P
I can't think too clearly about what is beyond. Yesterday, I lost my mother, somehow this music, something of a catharsis here helps. I only pray that this is not all there is; this can't be for nothing.
he doesn't need to prove himself to us, blessed is he who believes without seeing or hearing. We screwed up this world when we rebelled against God and became independant of him before i turn this into a sermon i'll go but U2 keep up the great work!
I guess you mean "Trip Through (Your Wires)" and not Trip Over... But I think it's a fantastic song and it fits the album. Agree about The Refugee and possibly about Vertigo.
no it wasn't. was all taken on the night of the 1st sept. there was a first concert 7 days before but all the footage on the dvd is definatley from the 1st. I was at the show. recorded a few days after bono's father had passed away and the same day that ireland beat holland to make it to the football world cup
What is more, I suggest you to watch film "Decalogue" by Krzysztof Kieślowski. Maybe then you will understand what I mean. But if you not everything will be ok... Thank you for reading my messages.
@Camillacc As I also have a brother, I can imagine how you feel right now... May he rest in peace. For the moment you have to walk on, Camilla. Best wishes.
Bob passed away 9 days before the concert, September 9th. He was buried the day before of the first concert in Slane (Sept 25th). Yours is a very common mistake, don't worry!! ;-)
Les paroles collent malheureusement à l'actualité... sincères condoléances aux personnes qui ont perdu un ami ou un membre de leur famille dans ces attentats.
this is a great song i just wish they could have played the full album version live. They can't probably because they never had a chance to work on it before the popmart tour since they were rushed to finish pop
@SaeJoke I'm so sorry for you, Sae. I wish you the best of lucks going through it, may she rest in peace now... See you mate. You're welcome, glad this beautiful music might help you a bit =,)
he doesn't have to prove himself to us. blessed is he who believes without seeing or hearing. he has showen himself to us through Christ. he is the way the truth and the life. God didn't screw this world up we did when we rebelled against him. it's not in himan nature to screw things up, all that canme into the world when we chose evil over good. before i turn this into a sermon i'll go. Us keep up the good work
Now, I don't know if there is any special occasion that happened in Ireland on this day, but for America, there is not a better song that could have been picked for such a sad day. God Bless those who were involved in ANY way w/ the 9/11 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center.
You should know that sometimes people pray for something what is wrong on the long run but they don't know about it now. God listen prayers all the time but sometimes He can't do something what we want because it is not in His plan. Because He plans everything and all He wants is good for people. Sometimes we can't understand why we should go other way that we want, why we should go this more difficult way. But this more difficult way is the only way to God, way to know Him and understand Him.
