Bono’s vocals here are just incredible. The passion, his chest voice, the falsetto. All blended together. There might have been a better male singer/vocalist or two out there in the last 30+ years but there was never a better male vocal performer. Ever!!!!
Check out the bonus disc on the remastered version of Unforgettable Fire. It’s got the version from Wide Awake in America…. Remastered. And for my money, that’s still the best version. This is a close second. Wish he hadn’t walked away at 6 minutes. I would’ve loved to stay in that loop.
Carlos Lievano wow. I’ve loved so so many U2 songs, never really even thought about calling any of them the best. But I cannot disagree with you somehow. The Wide Awake in America version is still my favorite that I’ve heard.
for me this song is to be played continually at my wake, none of that catholic hymn crap... that I grew up with... this song always fits me whole souled...
Since 1983 I was looking for U2 probably in all the wrong places. Finally found them in1987 with the JT-album. Where Running to Stand Still constantly seeked my attention. Didn't know why cause I didn't like it at much. Had to play their album when my husband was't home because he hated my obsession with U2. Running to Stand Still became a life prediction. Took me until 1998 (!!!) to finally hear for the very first time Bad, The Unforgettable Fire and New Year's Day. My all time favourites from the minute I discovered them on a "The Best of" album.... so many years too late. So many songs later on I always think: if I had heard this in the years of release.... I would have taken such different roads to travel...afterwords they always represent my history or were predictions. No one coming between me and U2 anymore. Because it's true... I read it here thay it changed peoples lives. Would have changed mine too. It's bittersweet sometimes... but now I AMthe owner of MY life and I breathe U2... every single day. They are truly the greatest band on earth!!!!💝💝💝
TRUE INSPIRATION, WORDS and the way REAL music truly IS,,,,,, U2, I didn't realize how much I missed listening to their music till I saw a biography on Bono yesterday, it gave music a chance to inspire me with my Lyme Disease to have a better outlook and stop feeling sorry for myself for a while. Anyone who has an Auto Immune Disease deserves to feel sorry for themselves once in a while, just sayin'
Oh my God...thank you so, so much for posting... Words cannot describe what this song means to me - this is truly one of the most amazing versions ever. The Joshua Tree tour was, in my opinion, one of the most important times in music for my entire generation. The passion that fills this song brings a tear to my eye. Beautiful and emotional - it makes you want to cry and smile at the same time...merci!
the song "bad" makes me feel good. john bono and the rest of u2 are living legends in their own right. this is very relaxing music after a hard work in the field of ops.
The Edge was damn good, Adam is grooving, Bono and The Edge have long hair. So much energy. Best live performance I've seen by them, wish I was there. The ending is different, kind of cool.
+Pascal HUIBAN J'y étais aussi ! L'année 1987 de mes 14 ans je vois U2 pour la première fois le 15 juin au Zenith puis le 4 juillet rebelote à l'hippodrome de Vincennes !
+Dandy Don It's a "U2" thing that every time they play this song, everybody says "Best live permormance ever" hehe IT's the "U2 Magic"..It's a kind of love..feelings..emotion...Best Band Ever!
il faisait tellement chaud ce 4 juillet.. jamais vu autant de monde se faire evacuer a cause de la chaleur... mais ça valait le coup... concert monstrueux
I missed their concert 20 years ago and hated myself once I later found out they sung the songs they did. I didn't correlate the name with the songs, for some reason. I made it a point to see them wherever they played (15 years later). I've seen 5 shows since. This is one of the songs I hold dear and just wished to hear it so bad at a show. It came on in the encore. It dropped me to my knees in tears. Overwhelming. I never understood how people cry over a band. I did my 1st U2 concert!
I was too young to see U2 at their absolute best, as demonstrated here. Thank you for posting and I am very thankful for RU-vid. Thank you U2 for producing such remarkable music. Perhaps, you will visit Utah again.
Bono,vc é uma pessoa admirável. Não tenho palavras pra descrever o quando sou uma pessoa completa nessa fase da minha vida muito graças as canções do U2 q pregam o amor e acima de td a simplicidade de viver
One of the best U2 songs....I was in Coimbra show (Portugal) in 2nd october 2010, and there is so many diferences.....the "Spider" stage was awesome...the clothes were so diferent.....no long hairs....funny diferences.....I love U2...come to Portugal soon.....:)
The pinnacle of U2 before commercial success went to their head. The music of U2 was fantastic, I just wish they could have stayed grounded in their revolutionary ideology. Regardless, thank you for many great memories. Your philanthropy will always be appreciated.
Clearly, U2 was at the apex of their inspirational prowess in 1987, both as a stellar recording and majestic live act, and although they would hit a daring creative peak with Achtung Baby in 1991, it was all miserably downhill after that.
U r right but I liked Pop (songs like „Please“ and „wake up dead man“ were great). The last over average U2 album. Unfortunately, it received bad critics. Today, U2 is musically horrible and the members are hypocrites!
What a great song to write derive future songs from. The Stones had Satisfaction...and you can hear the basis of many future great songs from U2 from this. This is such a brilliant song!
Obrigado, Meu Deus! Obrigado U2 !! Tive a oportunidade de poder Participar de um dos maiores Show dessa banda, Tive o privilégio de poder estar na frente de Bono Edge Adam Larry Miller emoção única.... Que vou eternizar na minha Memória! Love U2 Masterpice,🎸🎶❤️❤️✌️✌️🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷 The Edge Monster 🎸🎶
It's been said that a U2 concert is a religious experience. Loved them for many years but of late not so much. Better when they were hungrier. ; ) The Irish love their offings be it music, sport, stars, etc., much pride and I'm Proud To Be Irish! Up The Rebels!!
I loved it when Bono would do the Candle in the Wind snippet at the end with Fool To Cry. My favorite version was from Zoo TV/Dublin when they ended it with those two snippets followed by the First Time.
