Offense seems more versatile even while losing arguably our two most important players last year , need Adama to make another significant step up and Andre to be more in control/command/captain. Much more encouraging looks from our Freshmen and transfers than I was expecting. Let’s win another ship
They will struggle a bit at first to find continuity since they really only have 2 returning starters from last year in Sanogo and Andre Jackson (who didn’t play tonight). They have so many new players this year, a lot of transfers plus a good amount of freshman. However, Sanogo was voted as preseason Big East player of the year so he should dominate, Jackson has crazy athleticism and great defensive skills plus experience under his belt now. Tristen Newton (transfer from East Carolina) will be the biggest impact perimeter player, he’s a pure scorer who averaged 17.7ppg last year. Calcaterra is a good looking guard transfer from San Diego who can shoot the 3 and then imo an even better guard transfer Hassan Diarra from Texas A&M who can do it all. Great Mid range shooter, can hit 3s, rebound and assist (just look at his full stat sheet tonight). Add in 2 talented freshman: Forward Karaban and Center 7’2” Clingan and that should be more than enough talent to compete for top 4 in the Big East and make their 3rd consecutive NCAA Tourney since the mid 2000s. I think you go into the season with lower expectations since it will probably take them a while to learn to play together as a team but they should get going after Christmas and get some big top 15 wins on their resume. I say it’s a successful season if they make the NCAA tourney and finish 5th or higher in the Big East but I think they’ll finish even better than that when all is said and done. Lastly I expect Hurley’s strongest starting line up to eventually be C:Sanogo, F:Karaban, G/F: Jackson, G:Diarra, G:Newton)
ya continuity is a factor, but its not like the new guys are all green newbies... they got some seasoned vets transferred over that played winning team basketball. plus the impressive size and length w Clingan & Johnson. they will def be ranked, i think top 15, even top 10

Like the white guys on UConn this year. They can ball: Clingan is a beast, Karaban is smooth, and Calcaterra can knock a J. Great additions to a quality team. The defense was absolutely atrocious. To let Stonehill score 54 points is awful. The score should have been UConn 101 to Stonehill 39. If UConn wants to be a champion they need a better collective defensive effort (not necessarily more energy but more intelligent defense). I like the pieces on this team. We've got 4 legit fuure NBA players: Hawkins, Sanogo, Jackson, and Clingan in their time to enter the NBA Draft. Would like to see Johnson play to his full athletic potential. Tristen needs to get his jitters out. Start playing real ball. Alleyne is gonna be huge. Karaban is pure value. Has a shot to be in the NBA as a shooter in the 3 role. Hawkins has the best shot in college basketball. Pure scorer. Can't wait for Jacks and Hawks to recover and bring the Tomahawks! Dunk city.
@@scottwilliams8147 Was Steve Kerr any good on defense? I rest my case.😄😄😄. Need Joey California to hit three 3's a night (9 points) and johnny bench the rest.
Diarra plays like Jerome Dyson. Glad he's only a junior. He should be starting, but I like him coming off the bench because he definitely is going to win the 6th man of the year in the Big East.
