Just re-watched the fight. Valentina definitely outpointed her. Don't see how the judges called this for Nunez. and when Nunez got the take down she was significantly out struck. Valentino landed significant blows from her back. Not a fan of either fighter, but in this case, Nunez was lucky to get the decision. Nunez appeared top have lost this one.

The way I've seen the scoring be explained, is that the judges will give the round to whoever keeps up the offensive pressure and closes the distance ie: controls the octagon. Because Shevchenko spent 4 rounds backing up and relying on counter-striking, she lost the judges' favor. Nunes was still striking, walking in close (I thought she should have lost points for the finger extension like the ref kept warning her for), scored some takedowns and won the fight. As Max Holloway says: it is what it is.
