@@anti-v7ax109 He's just saying what he sees. When I lived in the UK, both times I ate at KFC I had mash potatoes. All UK franchise not carrying mash potatoes is kind of a crime.
quite convenient with the timing to be honest - a few years ago KFC moved from 'mcdonalds' style fries to normal UK chips and they were incredibly bland, not even salted but recently they started adding actual seasoning to them which upped their game up massively so yea, review came just in time lol
They did it shortly after they started delivery on Just Eat. It was because the fries would go cold by the time they'd reach the customer, so they changed them. The new seasoned fries are SO much better.
The "chips" and chicken are why I never went back a third time. Food standards in the UK are different compared to the US but using the same seasoning the US uses wouldn't hurt the UK franchise.
3:20 that’s probably because over here scones (called biscuits in the US) aren’t typically eaten with gravy. The most popular scone here (as far as I know) is actually a fruit scone containing raisins and some other dried fruits. They’re typically eaten with jam and clotted cream. However I can imagine a plain scone could absolutely slap with gravey tbf
Biscuits and scones are very different and the American gravy eaten with 'biscuits' is also very different. Look up a video by Jolly where British school kids try American snacks to see the difference
@@richardjo88 I just looked into it and I compared some recipes online and you’re right. They are similar however the scones tend to be more dense and drier compared to a US biscuit. Also the gravy is made from pork drippings, flour and milk compared to the typical gravy in the UK made from beef stock , flour and butter.
I used to work at kfc the supercharger sauce was originally for the supercharger sandwich, which was essentially a spicy chicken sub sandwich. The sauce stayed after the sandwich was discontinued because of the flamin' wrap. Supercharger sauce is an S tier sauce. The pepper mayo on the mini fillet burger is also S tier. I dont like anything from kfc except the minit fillets and the fillet burger, the original recipe used to be nice but something changed.
oh my gooodnesss kfc in the UK is SO MUCH BETTER than the usa kfc. i tried to kfc in michigan and it was so bland and the menu was DEADDDDD af the mayo on the mini fillet burger is better than supercharger in my opinion
@@braniefanie4938 I've never tried American KFC so I can't give an opinion but I heard they have the extra crispy chicken and they also have grilled chicken. I prefer the supercharger sauce though simply because I enjoy spicy stuff. I wish fast food chains would bottle their sauces, KFC bottled the supercharger sauce a few years back and sold it for £5 a bottle, but it was only for a limited time, unfortunately.
Been loving the British series of videos. I’d like to see you review UK crisps. We’re talking Monster Munch, Hula Hoops, Frazzles, Discos, the lot. Keep up the content!
Fun fact; during the Brixton riots of the 80s the only two shops not to be vandalised or have windows broken were Dub Vendor records and KFC lol. Some things are just off limits. 😁🏴
I'm very weirded out about the fact that he said there were no mashed potatoes. We definitely sell those here in london, unless the KFC you went to were out of mashed potatoes. Anywho, I'm very saddened to know that you're gonna be leaving england soon, it's been great having you here with us!
They do do mash potatoe ben!! They have only done it in the last couple of years but they definitely do mash at my KFC in kent. And the reason we dont do biscuits is because its what we call a Scone lol and we have cream and Jam with a scone not chicken 😂 which is probably why uk KFC dont do biscuits
@@MAGGZ-GWPI haven’t watched the whole vid… does he say that somewhere? Why would he travel all the way from SK to London for only 3 days… that’s crazy.
I imagine the biscuits you’re referring to would be a hard find in the UK. I have heard people compare them to scones.. which, on the subject, you totally need to try scones, jam and clotted cream (cream tea!).
We do have gravy it depends on area. Last week ordered6 piece meal with chips, mash and coleslaw. So it depends where you are. In 1980s i was a teen. Kfc opened with biscuits. Not popular. In the west Indian community we have fried dumplings and preferred it to to biscuits. Lots of west Indian community love fried chicken but biscuit not a hit with us. Try west Indian food before you leave eg jerk meat, curry goat and fried dumpling. Major part of city town areas of UK.❤
My husband is in Wales rn waiting for me to return, and he had KFC last night lol When I've been there, we've gotten the mash! But sometimes when ordering, certain items might not be shown if they're unavailable. Even at McDonald's, one location has mcflurries, but the other one doesn't (and sometimes either restaurant won't show up on the app if they're busy/not taking online orders. I know when I worked in food you could turn off incoming orders.) but ever since a few months ago, I don't remember the chips looking so good! I'll have to ask my babe if his chips were as scrumptious as yours look, because I usually skip out on them since they've been so bland lol Ugh this series has made me want to return to my love even more ;; SOON! oh I forgot, I tried making buttermilk biscuits for my nephew but it was my first time and they didn't come out quite right lol I wanted him to experience biscuits and gravy, which he kinda did, but this auntie failed so I gotta try again when I get back! At least dinner rolls are available, I was thankful when his family made them for me my first Christmas with them ;;
Had KFC today actually, and the chips are definitely a LOT better than they used to be, really well seasoned and moreish. Think it's a new thing as I had KFC a month or so ago and they were bland af as you describe lol - think they've upped their game.
The supercharger sauce is from a very popular at the time menu item named the Supercharger (a longer version of the normal chicken burger) and the sauce was only on that item at the time so they kept the sauce
I'm not sure why you couldn't get mash from the KFC in London because up north in Leeds where I'm from, you can get mashed potato from KFC and it's pretty good, especially with the gravy. Loving the videos anyway man, keep it up!
@@anti-v7ax109Um, because BenDeen travels the world and does food tasting in other countries? This is what his channel is all about - do try to keep up.
KFC is super hit or miss, it really depends what time of day you go in. It's better to go when it's busy because you're guaranteed to be getting freshly made chicken. I've been one too many times when it's been quiet / off peak times and their food has just sitting their for god knows how long and it's just utter disappointment.
3:20 we don't have what Americans call ''biscuits'' here in the UK. I guess those could be scones, but we never have them with regular food. They're always as a dessert with cream and jam.
I think the best thing about BenDeen's KFC 🍗 was the bag. The rice and popcorn chicken looked lifeless, I don't like the gravy or the baked beans they are too watery. KFC's bucket meals are the best a good assortment of chicken. Yes mash potato should be added to the menu. When I was a kid I use to have a kids meal that included tasty chicken and chips, a carton drink and a delicious apple pie. Bring back the KFC apple pie, it's the best!
Here in the San Fernando Valley suburbs of Los Angeles in the 1970s, KFC and Pioneer chicken stores were everywhere. Pioneer disappeared and very few KFCs remain. There are far more Popeyes than KFCs.
On the subject of rice at KFC over here in the UK, they used to do burritos. You could get a classic burrito or a Zinger burrito, each had a chicken fillet cut into slices along with rice and other stuff. They were pretty good. Very filling.
I can confirm we have both the Famous Bowls and a KFC poutine here in Canada - both are excellent. They also have a relatively new version of the chicken burger which they call the "Famous Chicken" - it's better than the old Zinger and Big Crunch burgers (bigger and juicier)
This is great content. Trying the regular traditional range of biscuits and cakes of the UK might be good. Hit victoria sponge, dundee cake, lemon drizzle. Then spotted dick, sticky toffee and roly poly (the suet one) (all those with custard). Also try south london's jamaican takeaways. Grew up on saltfish patties and goat curry
KFC is probably the worst run fast food chain in the UK. Most establishments are awful. Terrible staff. Terrible cooks. Menu barely changes. I love fried chicken, but KFC has just gone downhill for decades.
We have mash in some stores. Ive definitely had mash and gravy in the UK. Biscuits are very different here lol, so thats why we dont have a weird bread thing. US extra crispy is just how ours comes anyway. Of course we have beans on the menu silly, its the UK. Yeah, the rice is just a prank haha. Looks and smells good, but has no taste. I also would say KFC in the UK is way better than the US. I miss the snack boxes, i would get one after school all the time.
You haven't tried the KFC in the US where it originated if you're saying it's better. This selection of food on this video is very sad compared to what you'd get in US.
Same man, I used to love getting a popcorn chicken snack box after school also. They still have them, but they're £2.99 now and called a snack bucket, plus you don't get as much as you used to.
About the biscuits, in the UK we don't eat them as a savoury side. Biscuits are called scones here and they're sweet treats that you have with like jam.
I can remember back to the glorious summer of 2002 when KFC for a limited time actually had extra crispy on their menu. It was so good. And you get get a bucket with half extra crispy half original recipe. I've never seen it on the menu since or understood why they removed it in the first place.
No biscuits in Australia either, but we have these weird dinner rolls. We also have mashed potato and gravy as an option. No baked beans here though!! 😂😂 the Brits and their beans!! Lol I think we have the Supercharged sauce here too in Australia as a periodic limited time thing. People go nuts for it.
I don't know how it is in America, but in the UK (and I say this with KFC as my favourite nationwide fast-food chain) KFC varies a lot from franchise to franchise -- compared to McDonald's which seems way more consistent. There's one KFC in a town near me and it's terrible, but another in a town on the opposite side that is so good, probably the best one I've eaten at.
@@orangeslice43 Tbf if I was in London I wouldn't be going to KFC anyway unless I was desperate. Should have tried some of the independent chicken shops, some of them can really blow you away with the spice, particularly the ones that cater to the South Asian or African communities
@@meeds7473 Lots of the independent fried chicken shops have a tendency to sell horrible tasting chicken that hasn't been cooked properly i.e. it is still pink inside.
The mini wraps are amazing, you gotta add the optional hash brown in for 40p, steps it up to a whole other level. £2.50 for one of them and they're not even that "mini"
I know this is 9 months old now, but buying individual items from KFC is so expensive, you're better off sticking to box meals or variety buckets. (I understand the point of this video is to try all the different stuff you wouldn't get in the US or Korea) Also, KFC hike the price up CONSIDERABLY for their delivery. They put the food prices up plus charge extra for the delivery, a £10 meal from in store would cost you about £18-£20 to get delivered, it's ridiculous.
As a brit I can tell you majority of our scones are sweet and ate with things like jam or cream, its abnormal for it to be included with a savoury meal. The no mash thing isn't really excusable but KFC is all about its chicken, mash would just be out of place and I doubt many people would buy it. You should have got some hot wings though, they're the best.
They have a reduced menu when you order KFC delivery here in the UK sadly, you can get stuff like mash potato if you get it inside one of the restaurants
there absolutely is mash here, not sure why you couldn't get it, but yeah we dont have mac and cheese or biscuits or extra crispy, closest thing to extra crispy is either the hot wings or the zinger. zinger stacker is comparable to a double down except with a bun and its spicy
my country is part of the commonwealth and you can order mashed potatos and gravy here at our KFCs, can also ask them for just mashed potatos or just gravy too. i understand why they don't have "biscuits" because we see them as scones and more of a bakery item not a fastfood/junkfood item. as far as "extra cripsy chicken" and "double downs" they are a limited time item and only come around once or so a year, the same with the hot n spicy chicken - and i mean America does the same with their limited edition items like the McDonalds McRib so you should understand. my final input is "it seems like the piece of chicken may have been under a warming light or something, it's a bit dry", yeah of course it has. if the KFC is busy they cook before order not at order, that way customers don't have to wait so long. i come from a small town and they even use warming lights and cook their chicken before order because the KFC store is so popular with store full of customers and drive-thru packed out to the street all the time, i think it's because our town is on the main highway so we get a lot of out of towners passing through, but yeah if they made "cook-to-order" you'd be waiting like 15 minutes for your order after waiting for the drive-thru, instead of what our KFCs do it like = wait for drive-thru and get your order in 30 seconds...so i have no problem with warming lamps (you just have to fingers crossed your chicken was the latest cooked ;))))))))))
UK scones & USA biscuits may look similar but taste very different since scones are sweet & biscuits are savoury. KFC also probably didn't want to confuse UK customers because for us biscuits are something we dunk in a mug/cup of tea 🤷♂️
Scones can be savoury or sweet, usually sweet though. Also Popeyes Chicken recently came to UK and they sell American style biscuits, called biscuits too.
Here in Australia we have supercharger sauce. Goes real good with nuggets, popcorn chicken and their chips. Also some burgers have it on it. If u ever come down to Australia, have their kfc. Its really good. The classic meal that aussies get is a Zinger Box, can never go wrong with it. Zinger Burger, chips, wings, a drink, and mash n gravy which can be swapped for extra chips.
you should try pepe’s piri piri chicken and rice it’s like a classic fave of mine and a lot of other brits and we drench it with their mayo garlic sauce!!
Australia here, we have the supercharged sauce. Our KFC doesnt have beans or corn, does have the rest, except the chicken in sauce bucket item. We do have mash n gravy that comes in a tub together. No rice either.
You raise and interesting point. Distinguishing between KFC's from different places. It's a version of the original, given in ways they think most palatable to a given culture/place. I imagine my Wagamama Chicken Katsu Curry may taste different in say Germany, if there are stores there.
scones are not really a thing for dinner outside of the U.S, scones usually come with jam/whipped cream and are usually for desserts or snacks. in my country at K.F.C we get these bread rolls which look like a slider bun which you add your stuff to or dip it in potato n gravy to make it taste good.
