Taking my Model 3 to the Tesla Service Centre for a repair. After putting up with this fault for several months, I finally booked my into the Leeds UK service centre. Today I’m showing you how to book a service, what happened with my repair and what my overall experience was like. Do you think this is acceptable? #tesla #teslaservice #teslarepair
Who’s had to return their car for warranty work within 6 months? Has anyone else had a door alignment issue?
Let me know what you want to see next, drop your suggestions in the comments.

We had a similar experience. We noticed that the glue on the rubber around the rear doors had failed and the rubber was hanging down when the door was open. Booked in at a service centre, expecting them to just glue it back on and we’d be on our way. They said that there was a recall on the wiring loom and we waited about 90 minutes. We came out to inspect the car and they hadn’t fixed the rubber seals at all, we pointed this out to the service manager who said that they’d repaired the wrong side (there was nothing wrong with the drivers side, God knows what they did) and they took the car back for another half an hour before sorting it. A few months later the car developed a fault where we received an error message that the SOS system was faulty and regenerative braking was unavailable. We booked it in again and they remotely diagnosed a faulty antenna and booked us in. (I thought that was Clever) During that time we’d also noticed a knocking from the rear nearside suspension when going over bumps. This was audible from the outside as well. They said that the car would need a mechanical examination to diagnose the fault. So the car went in last week and they’ve given us a ropey old 65 plate Model S P85D with 50k on the clock which is locked in chill mode (😕). The car is clearly unloved as it’s absolutely battered and filthy outside and in, it’s also got a £2500 insurance excess on it so the Mrs won’t drive it. I love the Tesla brand and the product but their service leaves a lot to be desired!

“Tesla” and “pre-delivery inspection”. In the same sentence. You’re a funny man 😂. I used the newly opened SC at North Shields (which Tesla call ‘Newcastle’) last week for an ill fitting rear quarter light and black sealant overspray. All good - got a Model S courtesy car for the day. Friendly team.

I have used the Tesla Service Centre in Milton Keynes to have 2 paint blemishes polished out which I spotted on delivery of my model 3 car (dropped off a lorry outside my house). One looked like a damage mark, maybe on it travels on the lorry, the second was a blemish in the paint.. Very similar experience to you: Used the app, uploaded pictures. Got service appointment, tried for mobile but got told immediately this was not available. They said the work would be a whole day at least depending on the paint work so they had arranged a loan car. Got messages the day before, had to drive about 1 hour. Got their, handed the key card, asked about pin number, they inspected and gave me a key car for a model S. They thought it would be most of the day from initial inspection and suggested it would not be wise to stay due to restrictions on site due to covid. I got to drive the S . They rang me and texted me the time my car would be ready. I drove back in the S :) (Yes that sounds like a lot of driving - but I enjoyed the drive ;) They found an extra paint problem and fixed it, and polished and cleaned the entire car, all fixed and I was very happy with the work. They also charged my car for me. So all in all very good experience - and as you note, it is a service centre, no sales, they treat you well, are very friendly.

It's easy to book in. They can also remote diagnose the car. I've been in the times and they finally got all my delivery faults fixed. 6 months in the car is in the state it should have been. Except they didn't fix the trim under the sills which was not properly attached. I fixed that myself having seen on Facebook that it's a very common fault.

Just took my model 3 into Chester SC on Monday to have a windscreen replaced due to a crack caused by a stone. Took it in for 10:30. Moved to the workshop 5 minutes later. Technician came to talk to me to say it would take about 4 hours as the glue had to dry. I decided to wait and had copious drinks and snacks. A couple of people walked past and said hello and to make sure I was ok. Car returned at 15:15 all done. I was charged £840 for the replacement compared to £1140 from a well known windscreen company. I would say all in all a very positive experience.

Thanks, I’m off for a 2nd test drive of the model 3 on Wednesday in Cambridge. 1st year drive unfortunately they only had a performance version & as I’m disabled with a spinal injury I found the ride too harsh. But now they’ve got a standard range so although I’d be looking to order the long range all wheel drive (so some differences in regard to premium interior & all wheel drive & range, it’ll have the same ride in regards to size of wheel & suspension. So hopefully I’ll be able to make the decision as to whether to get the car or wait for the model Y. The model Y will obviously be the better for me as regards tide height & the seats won’t be as low as the model 3. But as I’ve also got arthritis in my right hand I’m having difficulties driving my current vehicle so doubt I can wait the 18-24months that Tesla say would be the wait for the RHD model Ys to become available. Thanks for all the videos, it’s good there are a few UK reviews as most of the longer term reviews on here are USA, and let’s face it their roads & availability of super chargers & how the tech works out there is quite a bit different to what we have here. I especially like the autopilot drives you’ve done on the narrow country roads & on our smaller A roads 👍

I've had my Model 3 LR since mid April and in the mean time it's developed a minor fault. There are intermittent warnings about seatbelt malfunction. I've registered it for a visit to the Leeds workshop (I live 1 mile away) on Tuesday so hopefully it won't take long. I suspect it's a sensor issue as opposed to an actual fault, but the warnings are nevertheless annoying. 🤞🏻 It's as quick to sort out as yours was. Thanks for the all interesting videos!

Interesting... had our Model 3 LR since mid-March. I also had problems with drivers seatbelt. Turned out to be an issue with the side airbag. Tesla Bristol we’re friendly & helpful. Took 2 visits to service centre + 1 mobile technician visit to resolve, though! There was NO using their waiting room at that point - had to sit outside (in the rain!). I’d echo the conclusions of the video; Bristol SC are friendly & helpful but perhaps lacking an eye for details.

Interesting one. I’ve got the same door alignment issue on the passenger side. Had a mobile guy come out the other day and do his best on it but said it’s still not quite right. More of an annoyance than anything else. He said I could take it into the service centre to get 100%...just working out when I’ll do that. Fix was great - 2 hours, but same as you ranger cancelled so had to drive the 150 miles to Edinburgh service centre and back. 6-7 weeks all in from start of issue to fix. Excuse the huge comment: Boot panel gaps one side significantly bigger than the other (fixed but needs to go back as mentioned above) When all doors are closed, one rear door slightly sticks out from the rest of the car, the other is slightly recessed Inside one rear door storage (in door card) the inside plastic trim isn't flush like the other one One door handle on rear door slightly recessed - just noticed this yesterday. Very informative video but I’m concerned about the number of videos and issues regarding Tesla build quality and final inspection processes it’s one thing paying such a high price for a technologically advanced vehicle but I’m sure most customers want the finished quality of the vehicle up to spec Tesla need to focus on the basics and improve the build quality then when the new battery technology arrives and makes the cars more affordable Tesla will be onto a winner
@SpawnPoiint
@SpawnPoiint 3 года назад
There's nothing to be concerned about, issues are fixed when requested. Tesla is hot topic, so it's going to be talked about more than any other manufacturer. Most videos are created by 'content creators', who would probably never have created a similar video for a Fiesta with faults, and showing a service visit to Ford etc. That's my opinion though. Tesla are under a lot of scrutiny, but for every quality issue upload, there's hundreds of positive ones.

Tesla is now refusing to fix many of these faults, stating that they ARE "on-spec". furthermore refusing to honour their promise that you can return the car for a full refund within 7 days which is just another ruse to persuade nieve purchasers to drive it away from their delivery centre, and hence, accept it with all the faults, with false promises that these are no problem and will be rectified,....then they renege. Had probably the worst first experience with Tesla you can get to be honest! Booked in for a test drive at 10am last Sunday in Birmingham (and let's be honest, just having to be in Birmingham isn't the best start :D), and in the week beforehand asked if I could take a passenger from the same household 'cos of Covid and was told no. Anyways I promptly proceeded to pretend I never saw that email, so off we went to go test drive it. Pitched up at 10am and the showroom was shut! Fast forward to an hour later after a McDonald's breakfast and having tried the handles of a lot of Teslas (including asking some bloke who was charging if I was supposed to be test driving his car), and the staff start to arrive. Turned out that they didn't even open until 11am so lord only knows why they booked me in for 10am. Also passengers from the same house are fine. On the plus side, the car was so so so easy to drive. Definitely not what I'd call exciting, but then it's not really built for that beyond the straight line speed I guess (Model 3 Performance). One pedal driving is a really relaxing way to drive until we're all being chauffeured by Skynet. Really hoping there's no issues with the car like you had when it arrives, since it's being delivered to my house and I sold my car yesterday! Anyways, rant over - seems like if anything goes wrong they sort it without any fuss (which I guess means they're very much aware of the naff quality control pre-devliery).

Love the Tesla and the tech videos, always high quality! Just wondering, is it possible the door went out of alignment afterwards or was it like that from day 1? Also, as well as sending the pictures of the issue, did you verbally communicate the issue to the Service agent when dropping it off? I would find it slightly irritating they didn’t resolve the alignment first time, although it didn’t take long to resolve afterwards to be fair! Keep the videos coming.
@David-bl1bt
@David-bl1bt 3 года назад
Brian, obviously you haven't had the experience of communicating with Tesla 'customer service's, it's near impossible to speak with anyone, they hide behind the firewall of the internet. I literally spent hours trying to engage them into conversation via email as well as their poor "chat" based customer service system which is hardly manned. I tried for days, only getting "no agents are available right now", when I was lucky enough to get any response it was similarly frustrating, waiting for up to 20 minutes at a time for a reply to each question, often just being left hanging with no answer forthcoming at all, being regularly disconnected (deliberately I wonder), then having to repeat the process time and time again as I got a different agent every time. I literally spent the whole of a weekend trying to communicate with Tesla customer service, this was to confirm a couple of queeries as I was about to place my order! After placing my order, the saga continues. They got my invoice wrong, so again I spent many hours trying to get it resolved. Then there were issues with the delivery/collection of my car, the day offered was not suitable but it was nigh impossible to easily contact them to change the appointment. I got so frustrated with them and lost all confidence with their shoddy customer service experience. If this was the service offered pre-purchase then it did not give me any confidence that it was extremely unlikely to be any better post-purchase. So I cancelled my order....another similar experience trying to do this also. It seems Tesla go out of their way to make your experience as frustrating and as difficult as possible.

@@David-bl1bt Sounds like a horrendous experience. I'd love to buy a Model 3, but the up front cost is still too prohibitive in Ireland - 49,000EUR for the base model. I guess my original point was querying about the level of human interaction and if Tesla are different to traditional dealers e.g. you walk in and verbally explain your problem and at least it's understood before they start the work. Obviously things aren't "normal" at the moment, due to COVID restrictions or social distancing etc.

Nice video (again), as always fair and balanced. It was disappointing that this was not dealt with by mobile though, its a 10 minuet job to re align a door, it can normal be supported on a jack which the mobile service tecs carry and is (normally) a one man job. I hope Tesla increase the mobile service in the UK as they have done in the US, it has the highest satisfaction rating of all their service offerings. In the comments when requesting a service appointment it might be an idea to specifically request mobile service and this may encourage its expansion by Tesla UK.

Have just had a service visit to rectify a couple issues that I’d picked up on post collection. Using the app was fine to book the service except it couldn’t find my address. All calls to the service centre have been picked up quickly and very friendly responses. Service centre is 50 miles away but is driving the car there such a burden, hell no,!! Drop off was socially distanced but fine. Had a model S courtesy car (yikes, having a screen in front of you that you look at through the steering wheel will never catch on 😀. Screen in centre left is so much easier). Had one non warranty item which cost more than I would like based on Tesla hourly rate, but all work done quickly. I have never has such a detailed breakdown of what was addressed and report from any manufacturer, ever! All things done/ reported on. Staff all exceptionally friendly. 50 mile trip is a bit of a jaunt but otherwise a good experience. Is Tesla quality control perfect? Far from it. Will you get a car half way as good as a model 3 from any other manufacturer at the moment? No way. More than happy to live with the little bit of rough to go with the fantastic smooth.

Tesla don't do DPI, that's the customer's job. Their approach is completely different to all other mainstream car manufactuers. No dealer network which cuts down on costs, time and overheads. Downside is that things like your door alignment don't get picked up because there is no dealer to do the PDI. It's effectively click and collect at a service centre.

Factoring in the cost in time incurred taking photos, scheduling and then rescheduling on the app, travelling to and from the 'bodge-up rectification centre' (service centre) at the owners cost, not forgetting the frustration and annoyance factor, it certainly wasn't "free". I have read that many disgruntled owners having had to visit these centers multiple times to get their new cars brought up to (hopefully) an acceptable standard, if at all. It is shocking that many years down the line Tesla hasn't bothered to address these blatent shoddy build issues which continue to this day (check-out disgruntled model Y owners who are reporting a plethora of faults with their newly acquired cars that were inherited from the model 3). www.autoevolution.com/news/tesla-model-y-owner-complains-about-quality-issues-that-will-leave-you-baffled-147258.html Tesla get away with this in the main because owners are required to pay in-full up-front before they even set eyes on their car, then are happy to collect and drive away their new car despite it having faults, then having the hassle and inconvenience of having to try to get it fixed further down the line. Thanks for sharing your all-too-often. "Tesla experience". A very disappointing and unnecessary time-wasting visit, all at the owners cost. Unfortunately the vast majority of these 'service' (aka fault rectification) visits are caused by 'Tesla fanboy/ excited giddy owner syndrome', whereby adrenaline kicks-in on collection day, conditioning the brain into a sense of idyllic euphoria at seeing the dream car they have been eagerly waiting patiently to collect, consequently failing to thoroughly check that their car is in a condition worthy of its price tag. Tesla are aware of this syndrome, utilising it to minimise their costs by not having to spend time, effort and money rectifying their shoddy manufacturing process I've said this before and I will say it again .... This amounts to shoddy manufacture and sub-standard quality control, such defects should have been nailed well over 12 months ago when they were made aware of the issues. There is no excuse for these issues to be still existing, shame on Tesla. Incompetent quality control inspections, and blinkeredl fan-boy purchasers who would accept their new wheels whatever the condition as long as it does the 0-60 in 3.2 seconds. Tesla is well aware of this strange phenomenon that's why they won't spend the effort & time correcting it... why would they, after all, it costs them money to rectify, so if they can get away with it, they will, right?. I'm guessing that the vast majority of people buying a SECOND HAND car from a main franchised dealer wouldn't accept a car in this condition, let alone a new one costing almost £50,000. If more buyers removed their blinkers and exercised due diligence on collection day and rejected their car at the point of delivery then perhaps these (& other) issues such as paint defects would be addressed sooner rather than later. Tesla clearly set out to gamble that most defects won't be discovered by their excited owners, thereby saving them a fortune. Tesla sneakily takes full payment for the car upfront BEFORE collection, knowing full well that most buyers, due to being blinkered/ excited are likely to drive away smiling and waving with no, or at best, just a cursory inspection. . If Tesla didn't get their money until the car had been thoroughly insoected and signed off he purchaser I'm pretty sure that they would be making a concerted effort to up-their-game on quality control. Such a shame that their of lack of attention to detail when presenting their cars is hugely detrimental to their reputation and credibility worldwide.

@@David-bl1bt Hi David, If you expect a flawless car, go elsewhere. My view is that a few up front issues that you can get fixed and still have the best EV out there, then it's worth the aggravation. All I can suggest is that you back off and wait 3 years and you might see a car the equal of the Tesla or Tesla may have pulled their socks up.
