Like your style. Pipe weldor here. I have worked the iron a little bit. I still have my spud/crescent. Retired now. I admire you iron workers. All the papermills/chemical new plant builds I did (pipe welding)...could not happen with out the structures you guys put up. All the best, Pete

cheers on a good idea. Did Iron for 13 years, a lot of connecting all over US. I also hated the weight of a 1" let alone the heavy inch bolts. Ret. now but love these tricks I didn't know about back then like a nut nut. Keep on hanging brother and stay safe. The Rain Man

Looking forward to the bolt video, I currently work for a bridge manufacturer in New England, we constantly ship girder assemblies with TC bolts but never get to snap them. Thanks for the great material, your videos as well as the audiobook series is convincing me to join one of the Unions in my area, looking at IW 15 and 424 both in Connecticut.

@aallender02
@aallender02 2 года назад
@@mightylaidlow1 they're seen as carpenter tools around here. But I'll give you why I don't use them: because I don't need any more pointy tools on my belt. I already have my two spuds and possibly a bull pin and a sleever bar. Instead I carry a standard 12" crescent that I've ground the end down to a wedge. Also, spud crescents don't fit in my scabbard.

Never apply heat to your tools. Never. You need to make some wacky ass wrench, get a file. Seen guys tig/mig/stick weld the washer on their sleever. To me, they just trshed their sleever.
@peteywheatstraws4909
@peteywheatstraws4909 3 года назад
I always use 2 rubber grommets from a compressor hose and a washer for my sleever bars. I've never used a grinder or torch on a tool, back in the old days (80's), they instructed us to use a file, like you said.
@justinwhite4274
@justinwhite4274 3 года назад
@@peteywheatstraws4909 Yes Pete. I had the fortune of finding some blue Teflon coated washers that boilermakers use for bolt up. A round file to bore it out a bit, and a walked to the track of a Manitowoc 2250 stuck the washer on my bar and used the holes on the track to beat it onto the bar, perfet very tight fit, it never moves. You stand on these tools, that's reason #1 to apply no heat. I imagine the same people grind chisels until they turn blue.
