Nice vid! How does this kit compare to the Motorsport AOS sold by Porsche?
@HelpMeDIY
@HelpMeDIY Год назад
+Hans Westerbeek supposedly much better and more effective. Hopefully the inventor can chime in here with a full explanation
@charlesbrazeel3684
@charlesbrazeel3684 Год назад
Hans the Motorsport AOS has the exact same diaphragm as the original AOS , The UAOS uses a diaphragm that is twice as thick and places it in a location that can be accessed in minutes ( not hours like the Motorsport AOS) .. Also the Motorsport AOS has a much larger body that holds oil to keep it from going into the intake but this large amount of oil lowers the oil level in the sump and therfore can cause oil starvation issues when at high G-Force turns.....With the UAOS with Track drain there is two drains to the sump and therefore you can run extra 1-quart of oil in the sump.....There are many other advantages of the UAOS...including the warning system and the lower cost over time.....therefore it is superior to the factory AOS and the Motorsport AOS....

21:30 Tip, use the correct socket E14, and a long-enough extension fitted over the bolt, should take no more than a couple of whacks with your favourite rubber, non-marking mallet or attitude adjuster, to force the bolt the correct distance. I use this same method force and remove the bolts on my Boxsters Alternator, whilst many, many complain on the forums, it takes them the better part of the day, to remove the bolts on their Boxsters Alternators. I thank you for your entertainment and sharing.

To facilitate removal of the upper roller bolt you can jack up the engine. As you discovered, doing this job from the top is the way, but kudos for showing the whole process. It's generally good practice to spray cleaner on the oily areas to help identify leaks later or even better to confirm they are fixed. I find dedicated handheld spring clamp pliers excellent for stuff like this because even if you knock them they never let go. Also, the lower AOS clamp is accessible via the right rear wheel well. Cheers.

That was a great video, Aaron! But, I have to say, it looks like a royal PITA install and I hope I never have to do it. Okay now, can you take some tough love? It bugs me no end how dirty your engine is. I rinse my 997 engine almost every time I wash the car to keep it clean. Is the Cayman a total pain to wash? I guess you'd have to R&R that alum engine cover. Is there a window to keep the water out of the interior? I couldn't live with a dirty engine like that! Maybe the problem is with me??? Never thought of myself as OCD but now you have me thinking...
@HelpMeDIY
@HelpMeDIY Год назад
+Tom Fitch thanks! Yeah, I can take it :) It was tough, but it was all the track addition piece. The standard kit was actually really easy. Yes it would be a lot harder to clean and nothing to keep water out of the interior.

I think the UAOS is a great idea. I had three AOS failures in approximately 5 years. Each time filling my intake with oil. And never really smoked until it was too late. It is a pain to replace but a bigger pain to clean the entire air intake path. The magic is the relocation and the fault light on dash. Therefore I just ordered the UAOS. 986. 2.7L 👍

There is some strange looking material stuffed into the large pickup tube. What is it and what is its purpose?

@@HelpMeDIY I wonder if this might also help impede oil from slushing up that tube and overwhelming the AOS in dynamic situations where oil has accumulated in that corner of the engine such as high G turns and acceleration??

Hi. Along with this video, I've been following your engine removal video saga. I have a 2011 Boxster Spyder bought new coming up on 200K miles. Have had sports cars all my life (British and Japanese) but this is my first Porsche. I have to say I am really disappointed with the difficulty in the serviceability of this car. What a rats nest of hoses and wiring with minimal space to get at bolts and clamps. Seems like cruel and unusual punishment for a guy (or gal) to try and maintain. Thanks for your vids and good luck with your engine rebuild and reinstall.

Another over priced part then the seller makes claims Porsche ones fail or other unfounded problems just to shill his product. Nice to get one for free but not worth the money just to move the diaphram to an easier location.

@@HelpMeDIY There were over 150k 986's made (my car) about an equal amount of 996's. If an oem AOS lasts just 10 years then owners are buying over 20k units every year yet you go on the forum and the sponsors claim failure is epidemic. They actually rarely fail but on the forums they are more about selling expensive parts from sponsor vendors so this and other issues are greatly exaggerated. Now, it would have been nice if they made the diaphram replaceable on the oem unit. Just reach back and twist off the cap (like VW). Hmm, if only I was the inventor type.😀 Ps - I replaced my 24 year old, 90k mile, original AOS but it was working just fine.
