So do we need to machine the gears down still for this conversion? Saw a video a while ago about needing to machine the gears to make it work. I have an automatic 325i 06 believe I have the zf trans but not sure if that matters. Only haven’t pulled the trigger as I don’t want to get stuck not knowing anyone who can machine the reinforced coating on the gears.
@@RacingDiffs oh heck yes! This is right up my alley. The cut even if it’s not super flush and perfect doesn’t cause any vibrations ? Just a side thought I had. I’ll grind smooth obviously but just worried about slight balance vibrations potentially
@@RacingDiffs you’ll be seeing an order come in soon once I go pull one from the pick an pull Yard. Figured it be smarter to pull one from the same year and build it and then just swap in the open that way if anything goes wrong I have the open as a back up. Which diff hearing do you guys think has the most optimal gearing ?
Sorry, I didn't understand your question. But I agree with you for another diff strategy. It is a lot easier to install everything and then just swap diffs. Especially if you forgot something, you will have your car available to go and get it.
Thanks for your response. Does that mean that there is no welded ring what has to be machined off in order to make the conversion with your kit? @@RacingDiffs
You probably have welded ring gear. But most like you wouldn't have to remove it for the installation. You should be able to remove the central pin without taking off the crown gear since your gear ratio is so tall.
@@RacingDiffs Thanks again for the quick response. Could you send me a link to one of your videos which shows the installation, that is applicable for the 215LW? Which type of welding is needed by the way for the installation, is it TIG welding? Lastly, is the DSC would work as before with the LSD installed? Many Thanks again!
Yes. DSC will work the same. It would be good to tig weld it. Here is the video. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nTlyS1fiNsM.htmlsi=rXMvaLgnRxGW-i2x
