@@Takittack It isn't, I just checked his channel name, I don't want to sound mean but please check before you say something like this, it's better to be right here than wrong
"Changing a core mechanic at this stage seemed like a bad idea." 2 seconds later... "So, I had to change the way enemies target the player." - Vimlark 2020
10:45 rigth in the feels! No seriously you made an awesome game and I had a lot of fun in this jam :) Once again, congrats Vimlark! 😄 And I hope that I will get a revenge in a future season 😁
I really was shocked. Thanks again for pushing me, Robreak was tough to keep up with and the new updates bring it all together. I think if you had been able to get that in for the jam you would have had me.
Congrats! We are all proud. Also a suggestion: You could make say, a speedrun tournament in the future and the winner would get a prize? Or a speedrun gamemode/feature where you could get new secret powerups or abilities if you beat the game in under a certain time. Again, congratulations on winning, can’t wait to see you compete in another game jam!
I just played the game, I think it’s quite fun. I like how you can choose how you play the game. You could use your shards to make easier to fight enemies or you can try to get the highest score. My score was 84 shards
Godammit, RU-vid's new comment section "feature" showed me this comment without me being able to avoid, meaning I get spoiled of what happens. Thanks RU-vid!
Used to watch these videos very early last year but stopped for some inexplicable reason. It was a joy to remember and come back to this channel. Now I get to watch the old videos all over again and, of course, the new ones. Very cosy and fun. Always nice seeing the development journey.
Loved this video, Nick! This was super fun to watch as usual. Super glad I was able to host this with Zyger! Really was a fun one, for sure. Hoping to start a new season in the coming weeks/months!
Haha ladylark coming in clutch! Congrats Nick! Well done! I really like the idea and art for the decoy. Glad you managed to get some more polish and playtesting done this round. I think that's a really interesting idea too that you can go for a high score or for easier gameplay. Great work! Also, 9:29 I love the desktop wallpaper xD
Have to be honest, among the games I've seen on your channel, this one looks really appealing. Not that I think any of your games are bad, just that this one speaks to me more, somehow. I like it.
Vilmark, All I can say is thank you, Why? You got me into making games, After seeing your games and how you said "I barely have to code" or something like that (I watched all your dev logs) I was like "Huh, So im not bad at making games i just have not found the right engine", After that i went to start make my first game idea on the program you use, But i got stopped at the fact that it would not let me get past the title screen, Thats when i was thinking that doing a game jam might help me get some understanding on how this program works, After looking around i found a game jam called "Level-maker" jam, The theme was light so i made a game of a old man that has to fight the light to his life, And god will help him with making platforms so he can get to the end. Thank you for showing me i was using the wrong engine, Ill soon learn unity one day, But for now, I have to stick with construct 3 for now. Thank you so much.
Congrats bro ! me and my partner have been following you in this series and were so excited to see that you had won. It just goes to show that either you hold yourself to high a standard or to carry on with projects you think are duds. You've convinced me to participate in more jams aha.
Sometimes when looking at Game Jam games I think, "Wow, just add a bit more content and this could be a cool mobile app or small Indie game". When I looked at this finished project, I thought, "This could totally be expanded into a full-fledged game". Like, how cool would this be with different worlds and environments, more enemies, different kinds of weapons, etc. This game has serious potential!
Awesome series. I love that you said day 3 you didn't do anything because it's some days I don't wanna code or workout and I always feel bad about it. Just pick back up and win the next day. For you, literally. Congrats
CONGRATULATIONS DUDE :D You did a great job keeping together the progress and the planning and sticking with it till the end. And nice job with making time to make videos too 👌 they're a very interesting first person view to your work
Wow!! I enjoyed following this as much as your other Jam entries. From my perspective this reigns as your best game jam game to date. Do you feel the same? Yannick is a class act too. I've seen some of his work recently. Makes the win that much better. Also, your channel has deservedly exploded! Congrats on everything!!!
This was a real fun series to watch and look foraward to the past weeks. Congrats on the win! you definitely deserve it :) I really hope to see something like this again sometime! Best of luck :)
I recommend u to expand this game. It has full potential. Love the concept and the pixel art style. Oh I have a really cool concept for the 3rd boss: For the boss intro, the two enemies (the bat and the flipped[?] bat) formed into a head and 4 eyes. Ability: +Laser shot: Pulls out a big laser to the sorcerer, accuracy might be low. +Air stomp: 4 eyes proceeds to shoot a big force field (?) to the ground, sending a huge stomp making some platforms fall (might be too OP) +Platform Curser: Makes some platforms to fall instantly when stepped on. Aaaand that's all for the concept
Congrats! Me and My Friend (Logan) are very inspired by your work, therefore we're gonna make our first game. (Logan) Actually Commented! I wish u the best of luck!
Dang it would’ve been cool if the special ability bar had a wing on the right side of the bar aswell, so it would match with the wing on the left side of the bar.
He said he would add some features in the video, like saving a high score and adding a speedrun timer. Those will probably be all that he will add though as it seems like a pretty polished game now.
i think you won because of the fact that your game was more fantasy like so when you add special powers it just becomes better where in yannick's they dont fit the game so gg to both of you
I thought that maybe the ability to turn invisible, and all enemies would have a question mark appear above their head and they would enter their idle state until you appear would have been so cool! But you weren't given enough time to do so I guess.
I think that you should have added some different congratulatory text for a certain amount of gems at the end, to further encourage players to discover everything the game had on offer, "You made it out with 27 gems, what a pure soul!" is alot better than "You made it out with 27 gems."
Don't stress about the speed, especially if you are working on your first game. Take your time and learn as much as you can. I wasn't working like this right off the bat. Best of luck on your game!
Found this video and went back to watch the other 2 ones. Amazing video and great game. I would like to ask what software you used to make the game on, coding etc
I think the biggest problem with the boss is that you can destroy their projectile. It really deemphasizes the movement since you can just stay in one spot and shoot at it until it gets close. If you couldn't destroy then you'd have to move to dodge the attack
I just have to point this out for you for the future, because the way you setup the decoys sounds a little convoluted. I am not sure how you setup the targeting itself, but it would probably be easier if you used a sort of weight system instead of rolling through an array of decoys. So like you said they will target the player if the player is in range, then chase the player. You could just also check for a decoy as you check for the player, but give extra weight to the decoys, and possibly an extra bit of distance so as the player runs towards a decoy the enemy should just naturally switch it's target. Keeping every system of the game as self-sufficient as possible is the best way to avoid causing bugs for yourself :)
It would have been awesome if you kept in the glitch that let you double gems so that people could get an even higher score if they did the trick where they shot and then walked into the crystal. Adds some more consideration to movement with no extra work (assuming that it worked consistently which I guess from the fact it was a bug in your code it might not have)
Working on them. I had a bunch of computer issues so I have been really behind on videos. I do work on MWG every Thursday on my stream if you are able to stop by :)
Tried it out (on mac os) but it was way to buggy. Some enemies coudn't get hurt and several times I fell through solid floor. To bad cause I really liked the art and theme.
