I am in the process to make the shop more organized and a drill press cart with tons of storage for drills and screws seemed like a great idea. I think the project turned out amazing and the added weight in the bottom actually works extremely well. The shop is getting there just one piece at a time.

BRILLIANT to add the lower weight to keep the cart balanced and offset the weight of the drill press. I don't understand why more people don't do this.

Me either and thanks. Yea I didn’t want it to tip and if my kids get crazy and climb on it I wanted it to stay put

Something nobody seems to utilize, the slot holes in the drill-press foot. They are there so you can mount and move the press front to back (big wing nuts used). If you extend the floor of the stand out the back further creating a shelf, you can strap in long stock for end drilling by swivelling the drill-head around, loosening the bolts in the slots and sliding the press back, retighten. Various clamping/height devices can be fashioned to hold stock. Press stand only puts the press stand out a few more inches off the wall. Also use the long cubby created to store long-ish press accessories, fence and stuff.

Some great ideas especially the counter-weight. Really helps stabilize it when rolling across expansion cracks in the concrete floor. Thinking about this design only bigger and facing the drill press towards the ends so I can put a table-top joiner one the other side.

As someone else said, great idea with the counter weight. I just purchased a drill press and it's 89 lbs and I was concerned about rolling it around the less than perfect garage floor with all that top weight. I will definitely incorporate that idea in my build. Otherwise really enjoyed the video and your work.

Hi Ox, I just saw you on the Patrick’s circular saw sled video and wanted to let you know that I do woodworking and don’t have a beard either. I pray to God I never do. I have a general question for you I’m asking a few woodworking youtubers. I inherited my dads tools and the table saw is on a stand, no wheels and very old and scary. The mitre saw is a chop saw. I am trying to figure out how to set up a no shop shop as I’m in a condo at the moment and have to do most of the wood works outside so I won’t get dust in my sewing machines. Anyway what would you buy to get a decent set of tools? I’m doing remodeling , cabinets, drawers, trim etc. repurposing furniture. I’m getting a full router kit from Makita for joining, trim, hopefully that will work for a lot of it, but for straight cuts , rips & mitres, I have to do something a bit more substantial than my circular saw. Right?I have the large cuts done by the guys at Home Depot and I don’t mind. I’m 5 minutes away. I like the Bosch sliding mitre the new system, it seems great, maybe with a wheely thing? I need to keep it in a coat closet and wheel it outside. I can barely lift my dads Makita chop saw so wheels would be fantastic. Please let me know your opinion, I think your experience would be very helpful. I have to get his handled. Also I really like your channel name and brand, the ox is really cool! Starting my sewing and diy channel soon. I’ll share any of your advice I may use and mention you if I do I promise. Thanks so much!

I love the idea of the counterweight, but I am worried the bag will break and leave a mess. I would at least put a sheet of 1/4" plywood on top of the 2x4's and possibly some plastic. I am possibly paranoid. This is a very nice build; thanks for sharing.
@oxintheshop
@oxintheshop 3 года назад
Thanks for the concern Amanda but I think is will be ok. I see what your saying but it is supported over 3 points so it is going to take a long time for the bag to decompose before that happens

How do you like the Grizzly anniversary edition band saw? I was debating getting that or spending a bit more for cast iron trunnion.

I really like the larger, wider base for larger drill presses. My "benchtop" drill press is an old Jet and it takes two average men or one Refrigerator Perry to move it. I'm curious, though, why you butt screwed and glued the short pieces to which the casters are mounted. That alone is an inherently very weak design. It seems like a single piece extending from one caster to the other would have been far stronger. The cabinet structure probably compensates, though. The music was a distraction to an otherwise good video. Wretched, actually.
@oxintheshop
@oxintheshop 3 года назад
Once I added the plywood to the frame at the base it adds the strength and doing it this was is so the weight gets lower and makes it more stable I don’t want it to tip over for sure. I have young kids that help me out and play sometime they climb on stuff

The bottom is overly complicated. Flat piece of plywood would have worked much faster and simpler.
@oxintheshop
@oxintheshop 3 года назад
Yes and no the idea is to get the weight below the center of the wheels it makes it more stable. You could have tipped it easy if that was the way you did it
@dkruitz

@@oxintheshop I missed that you added ballast in that cavity. Would be curious if you did a tip test to see how much difference it made. Clean work.
