Thanks for going quickly and not talking and explaining everything. Good range of a lot of items. If room, you could add bandana, latex gloves, bandaids and few medical/first aid items, small pry bar, real screwdrivers, mirror, super glue, paper clips & safety pins, hand wipes, magnet, tweezers, large trash bag,

This kit has more tools than my wood-working shop used to have in the beginning. Who's carrying all this load in the forest? You're only short a cement mixer and maybe a diesel generator and you're ready to go and build a house.

This kit has an amazing amount of junk in it that serves zero purpose. Spear heads? Arrow heads? Where it he bow? Does he really believe he's going to run down some deer or pig and Rambo it for dinner ROFL!! 3 Sharpeners wtf?!?! 95% of these kit videos is crap guy pack in a bag with wild illusions of survival but almost none of them show any of the gear has use. They wouldn't last a day in survival class with this Walmart collection, but Amazon is sure happy to see them buying this crap lol.

This is a nice kit, interesting and different and not the same thing that most people show. It’s amazing how many people carry the same stuff just because a famous prepper/survivalist does, but you got what you want and need. And I love the hot sauce, even in rough times you need that spice 🌶️ lol

I cannot believe there are some who take Bear Gryllis seriously. He is a fraud. If you follow his tips, you will probably injure yourself. I never watch his show. He films it and then goes back to his $250,000 luxury trailer, which is a rolling TV studio. I've also heard online from others who say they've seen his producers shoot episodes and they "camp" from a motel nearby!

Great MacGyver kit! Got a couple ideas to add to my bag. Suggest you get rid of a lot of the fishing gear and add a decent first aid kit and a good pair of gloves.
@Olyphoto7

Might I suggest you add a black Sharpie to write your name, phone number, time, date, and direction of travel on the flagging tape. Also consider reflective tape that can be added to the end of the flagging tape to make it more visible to search parties in the night. Great kit, I’ve watched hundreds of kit videos looking for little gold nuggets of information and items I had not considered. Keep up the good work!
@thenextarcher
@thenextarcher Год назад
Thanks for the suggestion! After reading your comment I found some flagging tape that is orange and has reflective parts. I will most likely pick up some of that tape to add to my kit. For writing name/number/date/direction I am able to use the Parker Jotter pen with a fisher space refill in it. I have tested to make sure it can write cleanly on the flagging tape.

Thanks! I carry an Anker powercore 2000 in my main pack, however I think you are right that it would be nice to have a smaller powerbank in the kit. In the past couple years I think its easier to find one that could work also as they make some that are rather slim. Grappling hook is definitely not needed but its fun to include anyways haha.

Great choice in pouch as vanquist uses contrasting interior colors to make finding items easier once opened. Your layout, while a lot to me seems to be sustaining, better to have it then not! As a recon soldier, I have lived what it means WSHTF score multiple times! Satellite phone, long distant radio, trauma kit, water, food and shelter along with sharp bladed type (at least two) can get you through most anything if there is a TEAM effort!

Whenever you go out into nature, find a way to strap the kit to you so you can’t get separated from it. So many of the survival stories I’ve heard have common themes. Like their boat turned over and literally everything they had ended up lost in the water. Or they had to make a quick run away from camp, and they ended up leaving everything behind. And they couldn’t find their way back to the camp.

nice kit, but you should get the SOL foil blanket because those thin foil ones rip really easily, it's only 1 mm thick, and if you use the foil blanket 99.9% of the time, it will rip with one good strong wind. I have used at least two dozen rescue blankets SOL was #1 for me. i would use a sheet "at least 10 mm thick for your drop cloth and put two more large water bags. As for the fire steel, there are harder and softer Fire Steels which is why your sticker will skip on harder rods. You should also have a good compass like a Suunto, you can get one as cheap as $15-$20. but do not get the military one.

That is a truly amazing kit! Great to see a pencil sharpener there! I also like your choice of cutting tools. Not sure I'd include those heavy tools - I'd probably substitute for a Leatherman and/or Victorinox. I might have missed it or forgot, but I would never have a kit like this without a lighter. In fact, I'd always carry one on me, one in the kit and one loose in my pack, and in my vehicle.
@thenextarcher
@thenextarcher Год назад
Thanks! The main reason I have individual tools rather than a multitool is that I have always hated actually using multitools. Iv found multitools to be able to do a bunch of different tasks but non of them very well. Yes, I definitely keep a lighter in this kit. Its hard to find a better fire starting method than a bic lighter haha.

@@thenextarcher Just shows how different we can be hey? I absolutely love my SAKs and Leatherman. and I use them a helluva lot. I even sent my Leatherman in for a service and it came back with all damaged parts replaced and looking spanking new. And it did not cost me a cent! Just a little story: a guy I met some years ago owns a small handyman company, with a few vans for his staff. On hiring, every employee is given that big Leatherman, and is required to carry it all the time. According to him the time saved in searching for tools makes up for the cost very quickly.

I have literally watched hundreds of these - and BY FAR this is the BEST basic survival kit there is. I am genuinely impressed. Some folks in the comments have made a few good suggestions of stuff you could add, and my only thought would be a separate iFAK (molle attached to the rear) but other than that I think I will be clicking on each of the links you have posted for stuff I do not yet have and will be copying this set-up. Nice. So many blades (and sharpeners) - you'll be fine if the zombie's come. That is the kit I would start with to build my specific kit for the trip I was going on. I love the idea of the pencil sharpener for making tinder. Disposable sunnies are also really cool - I was expecting you to say they were in shade #5 and you had something for brazing carbide tips on your telescopic sword ;) I have a little dry box of salt, pepper and chili flakes as well as a foil packet of chicken soup - you can't beat good morale. I have a combined sewing/fishing kit. Did I see a compass in that set - nice to know which way to go if you are in a whiteout/overcast, etc. I take a small hexamine tablet fragment which is great for getting a fire going under adverse conditions - love that little titanium stove!

Awesome kit. I have the Maxpedition Beefy with almost as much content as yours. But instead of the mini pliers, wrench..I have the Leatherman. Add a sharpie, a pencil (so you can use the shavings for tinder), some band-aid & individual antibiotic ointments & a small sewing kit, with safety pins & needle to your kit...just a suggestion by this prepper Mom. Greetings from Orlando.

Yeah, those Light My Fire ferro rods.... Every one I have ever had is just a MESS to use. I have tried storing them every which way and they all just end up completely chalky/disintegrated. I can't use them without having to wash up bigtime. I have taken to using those cheap Coghlan's Waterproof Flint Strikers. They of course are not even in the same ballpark when it comes to ferro rods, but at least they don't fall apart in my hands. This was a great video. Lot's of cool ideas.
@thenextarcher
@thenextarcher Год назад
I agree. The light my fire rods create some great sparks but I am not a fan of them disintegrating in my kit. I also own a copy of the Exotac nanostriker which is an enclosed ferro rod, it doesn't create as good of sparks but at least doesn't make a mess.

I would change your altoid can for more Medical gear. Mole skin, bandaids or gauze. Maybe add some Kevlar small strand as you have a ton of spear and attachments that may require strong lightweight rope. Upgrade your Flashlight to maybe a Pheonix PD36R! and only pack 1. (It will be the only flashlight you ever carry i guarantee it!} With the extra room you can stash a pack of cards for those lonely moments, or moments if your good to make some money! And where is your MRE!

Lots of great gear! Now get out in the woods and use it! You will quickly learn what is and isn't necessary to carry. Some of your choices are a little too gimmicky for me, and I do not like extra weight that's not necessary. When I'm out on the land I have no real use for wrenches, pliers or bit drivers, at least not that my Leatherman won't handle. My large PSK weighs just a few grams over two pounds and rides comfortably on my belt. I would bet that yours weighs five pounds or more. But hey, the important thing is to get out there and have fun gaining and sharpening your skills. Good luck!
@thenextarcher
@thenextarcher Год назад
Thanks! Great guess on the weight as it does weigh 5 pounds exactly. I fully agree that this kit could be slimmed down and remove many unnecessary items. Some of the more gimmicky items (such as a fire piston) are ones that people like to try out when I go camping in groups. If I am going to be hiking away I tend to leave this kit behind at a basecamp and bring a much smaller group of items.

Did i miss it or did you leave out a compass?
@thenextarcher
@thenextarcher 11 месяцев назад
I have a cheap combination whistle/compass on the outside, however a decent compass I have left out. There is to much metal in the kit itself and a compass would get damaged. I keep a compass in my backpack where it won't get broken.

@@thenextarcher Arh ok. Button compass are useless and are not worth the space or weight, they are to prone to failure, they stick and arent precise. You are better off using the sun vs. time and the stars. Also, a compass should ALWAYS be on your person, the reason is that you cloth will never go through the same handling as your backpack, your cloth will always be safer than your "external" gear. And if you have to run away from something and/or ditch your bag, you will always have a proper navigation tool on your body. Metal in the back should not be a problem if you use the compass correctly; always use a compass with a stretch arm and any proper compass, made by a compass manufacture (Silva and Suunto for example) will be precise. Why you chose to have rachets and wrenches but no proper compass i simply dont understand. But hey, its your bag and you can pack it as you want.

If your bag is waterproof and your rods have coating they should be sweet.

How much would you charge for making one of those to ship

If you are interested in building a similar kit I have included amazon affiliate links to the individual products. I believe survival kits should be customized to the person/environment so I discourage purchasing most pre-made kits unless you also plan to customize it.

Did I hear him wrong or did he say he's had fire steels dissolve inside his kit and get all over the inside of his bag???
@thenextarcher
@thenextarcher 10 месяцев назад
Yes, if you do not coat a firesteel it can start to oxidize/corrode. When they do they end up turning into a very fine powder. Here is a good example bushcraftusa.com/forum/threads/fire-steel-disintegrates-what-happened.235234/

You want to tell me that your ferrocerium rod once dissolved? An assortment of rare earths plus iron doesnt simply dissolved in a fluid. Iron has a melting point of 1200-1300 degrees Celsius and the only other Method is Hydrochloric acid, and I highly doubt that you store your fire steel in that...
@thenextarcher

Ferro rods are designed to rapidly oxide resulting in sparks. These same oxides + iron make ferro rods corrode when exposed to moisture slowly turning them into dust. If you search ferro rod corrosion you can see many examples of this happening.

Ah, yes, the ultimate survival kit without a first aid kit - while at the same time having sharp items in the bag. That is definitely going to help you survive in case of an emergency.
@thenextarcher
@thenextarcher Год назад
A first aid kit is kept separately. I want to be able to get to any medical gear quickly rather than trying to find it mixed in with other gear. The survival kit also gets dirty which my first aid kit needs to stay clean.
