UMK3 on Nintendo DS Versus UMK3 on ??? What version can compete? 

I absolutely love the DS version. It's basically a portable arcade port. What I especially loved about it is how much of an improvement it was over that godawful GBA version.

I once owned the DS port back when I had a Nintendo DS Lite and loved it. I recall beating the master ladder with Noob Saibot without continuing, the only way to play Noob Saibot was through a cheat device like Pro Action Replay, and mind you, Noob Saibot didn't have any special moves at the time, only dial-a-kombos, more health, faster walking speed, and infinite standing HP/LP juggles.

DS cause of the moveset available at all times, they should have done this with more fighting games on the DS and 3DS

I remember buying MK Armageddon premium edition many years ago strictly to be able to play UMK3 on a PS2. I was so Excited to see what the quality would be like. Needless to say, I was not disappointed. This was my go to version of UMK3 until the A1U cabs release and of course Fightcade. Great video brother. 👊

The DS version is perfect, though I have a soft spot for the Saturn version. SNES and Sega Genesis versions are fun little mutations of the original...

Remember there are five versions of Ultimate MK3 that was released after Y2K. All of these versions doesn't had Rain or Noob Saibot as playable character and doesn't feature the Brutality finisher unlike the legendary Super NES and Genesis versions. 1. The PS2 version that came bundle with Mortal Kombat Armageddon: Premium Edition. This so far is the only port of the game that doesn't had any online play. Kinda odd cause MK Armageddon does had online play. 2. The Xbox 360 version developed by Backbone Entertainment, this version is not the same version as the MK Arcade Kollection. This version does had online play, achievements, and leaderboard. 3. The Nintendo DS version which was a port of the arcade and came with Puzzle Kombat from MK Deception. This version also had online play via PvP WiFi connection. It also had a local versus mode where you and a friend could play via just one cartridge, in this one cart mode only Kitana, Scorpion, Jade, and Reptile are selectable. 4. The iOS version which was a 3D remake of the arcade game developed by EA. This version doesn't had online play but does feature a mode where you can beat Shao Kahn up any time you want. 5. The Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection edition, the latest version of the game, plays worst than the Xbox 360 version. This version was ported to Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. When this collection released, the Xbox 360 version got delisted forever. Each versions also had their own ups and downs, PS2 version can't save progress when hidden characters got unlock thus you always are required to enter those codes if you want to play as Mileena, Ermac, and/or Classic Sub-Zero. Worst you need two players to help you enter those codes, DS version had low resolution thus some characters look out of place. Both the 8 Man Tournament Mode and 2-on-2 Battle Mode were removed from the DS version as was the Galaga mini-game. The gameplay for PS2 version plays much faster than the arcade and CPU reads your input like crazy sometimes. In the Xbox 360 version if you play online you will always fight at Scorpion's Lair and nowhere else which gets boring. The iOS version is super ugly, the screen doesn't darken when a finisher is perform and they got a majority of the finishers wrong. Even worst if you didn't buy the complete edition, you only get 13 of the 22 playable ugly fighters, that's less than the original MK3. The MK Arcade Kollection had a lot of sounds missing, there are glitches pop-up and the game lags big time online even more so than the Xbox 360 and DS versions.

When it's quiet in the library make sure at least once in your lifetime stand up with your arms raised and scream "MOOOOOOOOOOOORRTTTTTAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLL KOOMBAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT!!!!!!!!!"

As i remember Ultimate Mortal Kombat(DS), is arcade perfect. Its an amazing port, adding Puzzle Kombat, viewable character bios, its great. There is one flaw to me with UMK, there is a glitch where if u trap ur opponent in the corner and repeatedly press punch, u cant lose. Yes this works on the highest difficultly.

I played a lot of UMK3 on DS online. I loved MK since the first game but never played it 1v1 in the arcade. Without the DS game, I'd have never played anything but single player.

For me the DS version has to be the winner, based solely on the fact that you can play it everywhere you might be being a portable system. 🎉

Cool vid. I own both versions myself. Have to admit while the MKA ps2 premium is fun, the DS UMK3 is better due to a few things it has over the PS2 MKA one. 1. The secret character unlocks stayed unlocked 2. Gameplay is smoother, faster 3. Had online where the MKA version didnt 4. The duel screen having the special moves and finishers was convenient and incredibly helpful. And lastly the portable element, i used to play it everywhere and still do. On my break I'd play online, at home all over the house. Winner-UMK3 DS

The MKA UMK3 Version its a little bit slower, the DS version its the best port before the Mortal Kombat Arcade Collection for PS3/360

The DS Sound Quality Of How Clear It Is, Is Almost On Par With The Xbox 360 Version But The Pitch Is A Bit High

UMK3 on DS is a fantastic port, loved it as a kid. There's still online play on it as well and I am trying to try it out soon since I already play 1up, GGPO and fightcade lol

Still play the DS version on my "new 2ds x" even if i have a deck. That version is quite close to the arcade version, closer to the others ports

Curious why the game is not out on modern consoles. I check Steam, Xbox, ect from time to time. I’d play 1,2 and 3 over the others in the series.

Only thing it lacks is the stage fatality’s aren’t shown they missed it

I think the arcade collection like you mentioned is the closest port, I think it was even the same team who did the port job.

The DS version is awesome! I go back to it every once in a while in the 3DS. Despite some minor slowdowns occasionally during gameplay, it is virtually arcade perfect!

Always wanted a portable version of umk3 to play since it came out, so habing this on the ds was a dream come true, and I sunk so many hours into this just playing alone. I had tons of fun unlocking all the extras, endings, treasures, and characters. Online was great, I used to call up my buddy accross the country and play for an hour on the college campus before the start of classes. Audio wise, I think "2" kinda gets cut off for the round calls, probably some of the voice cut off when there's too much happening, but it still sounds good.

UMK3 DS was a very good port

DS version is the best portable one, but yeah... you used the (NOT) Midway Arcade Treasures 2 emulation of the game as the competition... I wounder why? Edit: Yup, like I said before, the characters have to be unlocked every time in the Midway Arcade Treasures 2 emulation in MK Armageddon, meaning that you either put all 3 Ultimate Kombat Kodes or use the EJB Menu for that (this also applies on vanilla MK3 on the proper Midway Collection).

There was a Xbox 360 standalone version of UMK3 that released in 2006 but got delisted is 2010. It was an amazing port. The only way to get it is to know someone who bought it, get their account and then license transfer it

The DS port isn't emulation but rebulit game port. Does have some differences not in the arcade original.

Nintendo wins in all compartments it’s arcade-perfect. I was listening to it and got a flashback in the 90s playing it at the Arcade in the evening after working at Mickey Ds. (The arcades were like two blocks away from Mickey Ds) The PS2 is also memorable because I played it before and it felt like the arcade was in my house. (It was so much fun that I later played it on PS3) I will actually put up the volume on my CRT TV and people thought I had an arcade in my house. Both versions are amazing but Nintendo wins!

You have to unlock the extra characters on the DS version too. But at least they stay.
