Awesome video. As a former umpire, I can tell you that getting hit with a baseball is a horrible feeling. I've taken balls to most of the main spots on the human body and they STING like a MOFO. Keep up the good work on the videos.
@2:38 - After the Umpire got hit in the balls with the baseball the Commentator's comment of "Two balls & one strike" had me in fits of laughter **shrug* :-)
People who've never played ball before have no idea how painful it is even when our armor blocks the hit. I had one of the best catcher's masks and when I got beamed it felt like getting smacked by Hercules....and thank God for the cup...even then, it feels like hell when hit.
@@cjr1881 Clearly you haven't done shit. If you had, you wouldn't have wrote something this stupid. Watch videos of catchers and umpires getting struck squarely in the mask. Most have to take a few seconds to gather themselves. Obviously you've never been in that position.
Hollywood T u must’ve been having a bad day when u wrote this. If u don’t see how evil ur statement is then there’s nothing in the world to help ur deranged mental case. At that point, just do the world a favor and see urself out
2:04 I love how the catcher didn’t go and see if he was okay like I see why you need to see where the ball is but I would be more worried ab the umpire
I think it was intentional. High pitch and Posey let it go, then they're laughing and fist bumping in the dugout after he leaves the game. Dick move but they probably didn't like his calls
At my school we don't have any equipment for the homeplate umpire and only little equipment for the catcher (old facemask and old chest protector). I've been an umpire for quit some time and I can tell you it hurts a lot when you get hit.
I'm a pretty avid baseball fan, but I don't think I've ever seen a pitch that didn't even hit the dirt. He was confused apparently, thinking he was playing cricket. :-O
When an Umpire leaves, where do the two Umpires position themselves? Because I do know home plate will always have an Umpire behind it. I'm guessing 1st and 3rd base, correct?
Its kinda complicated. With no one on then yes first and third. With runners on base you have one umpire behind the mound and the other umpire at their base, and it changes based on where the runners are. For example, with a runner on first, the first base umpire stays at first and the third base umpire moves in. Theres a lot more to it but it gives you a basic idea
I know we all joke about taking a fastball to the nuts, but my God, I would never wish a 90-MPH baseball to one of the most sensitive part of a man's body. 😥
To those people who complain when an official gets in the way of a player, no matter if its the NBA, MLB, NFL, NHL, whatever, as far as I know, the umpire is considered part of the field.
I lost all respect for Buster Posey when he deliberately ignored the ump behind him on the ground. There will be more chances, pitches, at bat, games. But when another human being is hurt on the ground, be a decent human being and make sure their okay.
Fuck off, if someone gets hurt in the outfield it's a guaranteed triple or inside the park home run. There's no you're hurt so we'll stop playing bullshit. Shit gets sorted when time gets called.
If they used the old shields, like in the old days, most of those behind the plate injuries would be nothing. Oh, and the strike zone would be much better, IMO.
The balloon protector is really nice on hot days, as that body armor gets hot as hell. But you're looking over the top of it, so your strike zone tends to be higher, and it gets in the way when you have to make other calls (a safe call with that thing in your left hand and your mask in your right looks ridiculous).
@@eauhomme I don't think a safe call looks ridiculous. I think it looks awesome!!! And a higher strike zone is exactly what is needed. Most of the bad strike calls are way below the knees. And lots of what are called bad high strikes are right around the letters, where the strike zone is supposed to be.
Que want when you going when you going most baseball estoy going you could when you going when you going out this going when you going happy 😁 you going when you going
I like to imagine whenever a player or coach runs to the aid of an ump, they whisper "That's right bitch, now you best be calling in our favor or else you gonna eat another one"
well if we are to limit a catchers ability to block home plate why not forbid really fast pitching?? after all if SAFETY is the issue?? we must consider the umps safety!! nothing over 80 mph??
