Love the channel - both the videos and commentary, especially the build modifications. It sounds like you like fixing planes so you might find scratch building, or kit building, to be very satisfying. Personally, I like building as much as flying. If you select a vintage kit or even a basic airframe plan you like from AMA Plans service, you'll have unlimited opportunities to seamlessly build in FPV or other capabilities as you like.

Oh yeah those kits would be pretty fun for fpv! Thanks for the idea!

Put a little string on the canopy so you can see which way the wind direction is blowing. They do that to real gliders😊

Oh that's an awesome idea! We might just have to incorporate that into our conscendo!

Like how you added your TX camera view to this video. Great commentary. Also like how you were able to put the green circle around your plane. I’d like to know how that was done. Well done video. 👍🏻🙂

Thank you! Yeah I like adding in the stick cam, because shows the craziness that I sometimes make the conscendo do. The green circle is done with Premiere Pro when I'm editing the video, and I just keyframe the circle around the plane when I'm doing the ground camera. Then I fade the opacity to about 30% after a few seconds to get the circle out of the way.

Model aviators channel suggested a 7% elevator to throttle mix for level flight for both gliding and ripping.
@InvertedAviatorsRC

Ah I didn't know that! I'll have to incorporate that in. Thanks for the tip!

A lot of Horizon Hobby airplanes climb under power which is not good for muscle memory😢 They always put a little bit of up in the horizontal stabilizer. They do that with the UMX Radian and night Radian. The decklosh (not correct spelling) angle is wrong on a lot of their airplanes which causes them to climb under power. And a pisses me off😊

Interesting! Yeah I've noticed that in a lot of the planes we fly...Its never enough to make it unflyable, but you do have to keep track of it when you punch up

I can get 30 minute flights gliding if the thermals are decent per pack. I would imagin 45 min flights are possible as well, especially you had really good conditions. Seems to me that even with only a few actual motor climbs , that flights around the 30 min mark , drain your battery down from using the rudder and occasional aileron or elevator input. Just my experience anyway. Definitely easy to find thermals in a park, especially since most parks have small hills , parking lot to grass transitions, and areas in general where thermals are present.

Wow a 30 minute flight on a UMX sounds like a dream! Hopefully with a little practice I can get those kinds of flight times!

You should be able to easily get 20 min , and 30 to 60 minutes in good conditions. Flapperons are definitely worth programing into your radio. I also use spoilerons (to descend out of high thermals). Late morning to mid day is usually the easiest for finding thermals (hot air rises). The weather service can be a good source for good thermals days. Check the fire weather forecast and look for days with high mixing (indicator of instability , which equals lots of air movement vertically until it cools and reaches its dew point) , the higher the mixing height the easier it should be to find thermals. Cumulus clouds (thunder cell) or development of them are usually indicators of instability (thermals should be easier to find on these days). I own both the regular and umx versions and always go to the umx one. It's so easy to flight and since it's so light, that finding small thermals is pretty easy most of the time.

I would also say imo, don't be afraid to get that sucker 3 to 400 feet up in the air. Use rudder to turn if possible. If you have flying sites (parks or schools) that have some transitional areas were the surface changes color (i.e asphalt, to grass, dirt, clumps of trees, water ponds, small hills) those areas will heat and cool at different rates and are usually good spots to find thermals along the transition zones.

Thank you so much for the info!!! One question, how/when should I be using the flapperons? Flaps increase lift and drag. I would think that more drag means shorter flight time (but I could be wrong). Once I get high in the air should I throw on the flapperons and then just coast?
