Funny detail…Mrs Bolton is played by Joely Richardson in this version. She had played Connie in a much older version called Lady Chatterly. 😊

Am i the only one who feel sorry for her husband? It seems like he just doesn't realize that he is neglecting his wife. It's true that asking her to sleep with other is idiotic, but she latched on the idea immediately when she found a stud and keep gaslighting her husband by saying that is what he wants. He wants other guy to help her conceive, not her to cheat

@@smdre people dont understand it is easy to get lost in their work. He seems to be passionate with his work as well. Them blaming him for making miners out of work is just like blaming people who make robots to take over their job. Whereas the other guy didnt even bother to look for her after he got a job. Her husband is now left alone and crippled just because he loves his work too much

I have watched this movie. I don't feel sorry for this man at all. He was just using his wife as a full time nurse and sabotaging her freedom because he himself couldn't move. Besides he was rolling out policies that were outright exploiting the lower working class. The woman opposed these and he just pushed her away saying she's just a woman.

That definitely a modern concept. But back then people couldn't divorce as easily as we do these days. It was damning. He owns that town. If she divorces him they won't even sell her food or give her a job. The same is possible if she goes back where she came from. Women had it awful back then compared to now. So we think differently. Look at the advice her own father gave her. How did they know any different?

Women are perfectly entitled to end relationships if things are not going well, as are men. Stop blaming women for taking action when they have no alternative, while giving the men a free pass.
