After a friend of the channel shared a photograph of a MASSIVE chunk of emerald green sea glass, we had to get back along to Pettycur Bay to see if we could find anything as astounding as we'd seen in that photograph! We could not believe our luck!
We did not hold much hope of finding such a large piece - the glass we find here is unique to the area. The emerald green glass comes from an historic glass works that once stood on the bay here... We have found many small pieces, and a few chunky pieces, but we set out with an ambition to find a piece as large as Nicole's head!
After finding a bunch of beautiful small pieces of this unique glass, we began to find some encouragingly large chunks... Soon, we had found a few pieces, bigger than any we'd seen before, and, around the size of a clenched fist... Then, once our eyes had become accustomed to what exactly we were looking for, we found one piece with the most amazing features - it looked just like a geode... beautiful emerald green glass crystals suspended in a crust of what looked like sandstone... But this was no geode, it was the most amazing piece of sea glass - unlike anything we've seen here! But was it as big as Nicole's head? You'll have to watch to find out!
We hope you enjoyed today's video... Thank you so much!

Fantastische Smaragde habt ihr da, teilweise unter Lebensgefahr geborgen. Die Bucht ist ja stellenweise so steinig da muss man schön aufpassen. Hat sich sehr gelohnt der Ausflug. 👍💚

Apart from the bonny glass you found, you make me feel homesick. I live in the USA , hail from Aberdeenshire and listening to Craig using words like havering and doolally is so comforting. I still use those words by the way. Thank you!

Oh wow that’s some nice chunks. Reminds me of when I was a teenager,I marveled at a neighbor’s garden,they had a football chunk of aqua,it was so thick it read almost turquoise in depth. Not frosty sea glass,more flint-knapped primitive chunk,it shared the sunlight in a way that I’ve never seen before.

Beautiful finds! I wonder if the glass with 'extras' were poured onto the beach when they were hot? Or maybe those are the newer pieces that the ocean hasn't cleaned up yet? Either way...they're beautiful pieces of glass! Have a lovely week you two!
@scottishmudlarking
@scottishmudlarking 5 месяцев назад
I think you might be right! Some of the glass might have been almost poured into the Sea ... maybe that's how the crystalline structures developed!!

That glass is stunning! If you like those big whelk shells, like you found here also, there are lots of them if you walk from the Forth road bridge to the Dalmeny estate and look at the stretches of sand along the way. There are so many of those shells washed up there! Found lots when I went in March x
