@@deadgoodwalks If a family stops paying cemetery taxes , the bones are removed and the plot sold to another family. In my country I have seen bones on my grandfather grave and inside a latrine. It was shocking to see.
@1:40, it would have been so exciting to see the artwork that was on the wall; I saw a glimpse but maybe next time, show us the old artwork that is in some of these mausoleums, that would be great! :)
A weird thing about that glass coffin, it looked newer and cleaner than the rest of the mausoleum! How strange and fascinating! Great video as always, Dan!
It didn’t look as if there was a top on the glass coffin! It was also a newly deceased person as the shroud had no stains. I guess they embalm there in that country or does anyone know?
I have seen a lot in my time as a funeral director and during my travels to italy and I always knew they were kinda lackluster with a lot of things, but a decedent in a body lining just lying around behind a mausoleum is quite the thing.

Sad when you think these people must have paid a lot of money and probably thought they would be looked after and tended properly. I would haunt the person I paid Lol.
The graves in Italian cemeteries are leased - when the lease expires, the remains are disinterred and the grave is up for lease. The bones that remain are placed in an ossuary.

Way back Italians use to rent a niche.. for 25 yrs approx..by then the corpse turned to bones. The fam would place remains in white linen sheet..then place bones in an ossuary ❤
Pe're Lachaise Cemetery could teach them a thing or two about the upkeep of such an old place. It's so sad to see this on such an extremely moral basis. Dignity for the dead..
Again, a stupendous look at how Italians bury their own in Naples in view of Mt. Vesuvius! The Geology training in me wants to know more. The horribly tragic eruption was in 79 AD. But the very last eruption was in 1944 during WWII! I wonder how that eruption affected this current cemetery? Just amazing how every masoleum is different from the next! I thought the same thing. It’s so neglected, no one would know if that body was a murder victim or someone who was supposed to be buried there. Weird! I’m sorry but I would probably still be running if I came up on that😱
It’s been a weirdly fascinating series of videos. Really interesting seeing a different perspective of internment. Did make me want to do a lot of research, particularly when you said you couldn’t find much online. Luckily for my hubby I’m on the other side of the world. He doesn’t understand my love of cemeteries 😊

When there is no one left in the family and all have passed away These graves can not be looked after and become neglected May they all RIP Did you ask the guy why he was following you I wonder?
It is like they bult the graves anywhere they want to. There is no sense to this cemetery at all. I love it though and a big thank you for showing us. I would be so scared walking around by myself while being followed.

Excellent videos sir! As far as people following you, if it were me, I would try to approach them and ask why they are following. No one seemed to notice, but the top of the glass coffin is shattered, and only fragments remain in the channel where the glass is supposed to be, and you can see small pieces on the floor. Which makes me wonder if that is why there is a shroud over the body? One thing that surprises me is, when you look into some mausoleums, they turn into large multilevel buildings in very good shape, while others are just barely room for one coffin!
This has got to be one of the scariest, uber coolest cemetery walkabouts EVER! I live in the U. S., and try as I might, I can't find any instances of a glass coffin! And you're right when you say that this one was reminiscent of Star Trek; that was my first thought, too! I've been to Naples a couple of times (USN service), but I never made it out to any of the cemeteries there. But thanks to you, I now have. Many, many thanks for a scary-good video!
Congratulations on the video. I wanted to clarify a few points regarding the cemetery in question. The Poggioreale Cemetery is a monumental cemetery that suffered severe structural damage due to the construction work on the subway, which runs right underneath it. There have been several collapses that have not yet been repaired because the judicial authorities are investigating, and it hasn't been possible to fix everything. Regarding the policies for burial spaces, here in Italy, a tax is required. If this tax is not paid, the remains are placed in communal ossuaries, and the spaces are reallocated to new paying clients. It's sad and unnecessary, and if it were up to me, I would advocate for cremation to avoid such situations. However, everyone has their own beliefs, and these must be respected.
I kid you not but I used to watch Italian Tv via satellite years ago and there was a news item that said that the Camorra mafia were actually stripping wood from old coffins in cemeteries in the Naples area and the wood was being used in wood fired pizza ovens. I wonder if the wood added to the flavor?
This is an odd cemetery for sure. A corpse is just lying there covered with cloth in a glass coffin without a top. Another dead body in a trash bag just lying there in the grass. I like it when they don't renovate and fix up everything old to look as new but why let a cemetery decay to this point? It's not dignified for anyone. Why do they let this happen? It seems like they rather pay people to scare visitors off.

In every American crypt I’ve ever seen the coffin is always covered in stone. You ought to see the giant mausoleums we have in the US from the mausoleum craze of the 50s through the 80s. The mid-century modern way of death. Go look up Lakewood cemetery in Minnesota and look at the epic mausoleum. Multiple floors hundreds of crypts, soft carpeting furniture. Even elevators.
Creepy walk. I give you a lot of credit especially when you mention someone following you. You could end up as one of the new members under the plastic bag! Be careful!

Everyone’s burial is in its own different style, in its unique burial, and the different years of death all in one. Be safe . Maybe next trip take a ghost box with you. Leave it on and yea just walk .
I have always enjoyed roaming through old graveyards/cemeteries for the beauty of the artwork. I have found Paris to be the most amazing for discovery of unusual monuments and also famous individuals.
Its absolutely mind blowing and heartbreaking that someone has just dumped a body under a plastic sheet in a neglected part of this cemetey... I can only hope that it wasn't the family that did this...😢
The glass coffin, looked like there was no cover. You could see glass at head and feet and half way up side, but really looked as though there was no top
It’s crazy to think that all those names on the mausoleums are the names of people in my neighborhood and whom I’m related too. I wonder if the seismic activity of Mt Vesuvius, is the cause of some the problems in this cemetery?.

The place is lovely! What a beautiful area to be for eternity... Its crazy isnt it? All these honeless people with nowhere to go... And then theres these amazibg graveyards
It's kinda sad how desperate people are to be remembered. Imagine that after your death a time will come when the last person who ever thought about you will cease to exist.
I find it interesting that some folks would spend a small fortune on a mausoleum; only to have it crumble over the decades. That money could have helped the poor, fund hospials or charities. I plan to donate my body to science. Such a shame these magnificent buildings are left to fall apart.
