A bit of hotglue or silicone sealant (RTV) at the base of the ELRS antenna to "strain relieve" it a bit, helps to protect it without adding much weight
I think this quad is great for just leisure flying either indoors or outdoor, but for cinematic shots I would rather go with the Cinelog20. Same O3 Air unit, 2 inch props, but much more durable, better frame and 4s batteries. Still a great review, thank you JB :)
Hey @JoshuaBardwell the 12A AIO does in fact have issues burning. The test unit I sent you did in fact smoke itself but BetaFPV sent a replacement. The new Pico has a 20A AIO but they did not send it as a replacement. Make sure you get the newer version if considering the Pico.
thanks for repetitive telling us about the arm angle! Yesterday i flew my cinebot the first time. i flew over a pretty dence forest and i wanted to know if my gf could see me better, when i turn off the blue light :D i accidently disarmed my quad instead of turning the lights off.. :D i fell down armed (nothing happened because i didnt moved my sticks) disarmed and armed again and saved my quad. during the fall i new exactly that i watched ur video and that i turned the max arm angle to 180 degrees. thank u so much!!
If you were home when the tornado came by, you should’ve dedicated a quad to it, put it outside and then ripped it from your basement to see what it looks like while you stay safe
As long as you set it to fully manual and use 10bit colors with a bit of corrective grading, the O3 performs really well and delivers strong video. Auto exposure and it's overcontrasty bias is just horrible. It's a bit of pain, but a pain worth it for having sub 250g quads recording 4k120 on an SD-Card. I did some amazing shots with my new Tiny Trainer O3 and AOS Cine25 without having to deal with strong regulations. Love it. For freestyling and fun I'll stick to my low-latency feeds, but for delivering footage... the O3 is a perfect little tool. I hope we get the Air3 Sensor in the O4 :)
Nice review Joshua. I am not sure why there are not many reviews of the mobula8 with full sized Walksnail VTX mounted using the same DJI O3 mount. I have done it, and added beeper, and it is still probably 20g lighter than the one you reviewed. The extra canopy space serves well to protect Walksnail VTX and camera against crashes, and enough room to add a ViFly ultra bright led, and still lighter than the DJI O3 version. Also saves $200 on VTX. Mobula8 is fast and probably best weight/power ratio to fly outside without being blown about by wind when flying cinematic style.
Man this couldn’t have come at a better time thank you Bardwell you are the freaking man and thanks for replying to my email helped a lot bought literally all my gear through your links and plan to sub to your Patreon once I finished my final purchases
The problem is flywoo envisioned a frame to allow the naked to sit so prop flow would cool it - I want to make sure to get a frame optimized for that cooling feature before I get the naked.
Same as these two mention here... You just can't make an 80ish mm quad any lighter than these two. Then, you add the heavy 03 to it and it is what it is - a flying barge, bloated cow, or Big Mac devouring T-rump! LOL 😮😢 This size, in all reality, is too small to really carry such a heavy VTX & camera. Sure, they did it, but both are fragile and top heavy and over weight. A compromise. But, people will buy them, smash the F out of them, and rebuild ... It's what FPV is! 😜 It doesn't mean these will ever really fly good. 🤷💯
I honestly fully agree with happy model making solid FCs nowadays at least when it comes to AiO. i’ve had like 4-5 over the last two years and the newer ones seem to really outlast earlier ones durability wise. that said i use them on fairly light analog whoop builds so i can’t speak to how well they’ll handle the weight of a digital vtx over an extended period. i wouldn’t be shocked if the ESCs wear out a lot sooner
I love mine. Just made a little edit with it ;) Flies great for its size and weight - not a freestyle machine.. Doesn't stress people out. I use the red GNB 550 HV batteries, which fit perfect. 3.5 minutes of lively flight. I didnt need to, but I put Betaflight 4.4 on, no problem. Grabbed the CLI dump from the Happymodel site and it copied over fine. I use the flywoo ND filter set (cheapest to be found), which included a clear filter so the lens is always protected. Need to replace the o3 antennas with micro vees. Its really hard to keep them out of the props, even with a cable tie stand-off and the micro vees are tougher. With Bluejay you can make the motors beep a little louder - but dont go crazy, 10% extra is fine. Waiting on some 5 blade props (gemfan d51) to make it even quieter.
I can confirm flight controller catching fire on my Pavo pico just after two days of using it. Was flying it indoors and had a light crash, when I went to pick it up I found it literally on fire. At first I thought it was the battery but it turned out to be the flight controller.
I added hot glue to the base of that RX wire after my first one came with it broken off before it even was taken out of the box. I also then run it turning around the rubber column and under the bridge frame. I put another dab of hot glue holding to to frame and then pinched the end up verticle in front of the frame bridge. I also added 4 little hot glue feet mounds to the frame the batter sits in. Makes landing it not damage the frame or batter and if your hot glue feet wear down you can scrape the worn foot off with fingernail and replace with another.
Really great video, as usual. I'm having a hard time deciding between the Mobula8 and the Pavo Pico. How's the noise of this one compare? And would a larger battery (850mah) be viable for either of them for longer flight times? Durability is what's making the Mobula8 attractive. Noise level, vibration dampening, and props not-in-view are what make the Pico attractive. Appreciate any feedback on this dilemma. I'm looking for something unintimidating and reliable, only considering the O3 versions.
Awesome review my man. I love flying it for its size n video quality. Would u consider flying this for a few days and see how she fairs? From a “traveling” perspective.
Antenna is great! If it breaks you only need solder on a piece of wire to fix. Ufl connectors are fragile and are easily destroyed. Fix for them is no easy!
for boards with those copper wire antennas. I try to run it to one of the board screws, sandwiched in between the gummies from the FC and VTX like HDzero. I know it might not be the best for range but I only do this for whoops and other small stuff where I'm not flying far anyways.
Honestly for freestyle you’ll need the 550mah batteries instead of 450. I was using the 450 at first but when I switched to 550 it made a big difference in the performance.
Yeah, but that'll just make this flying barge even heavier! What's the answer then? Not to try putting such a heavy VTX on such a small whoop! Sure, they've done it... It flies ok, but that doesn't mean it really, truly, isn't great carrying all that heft! For us that don't care one bit about the 4K video that I'd take with this and then it would sit on my hard drive, never to be watched again! ... lol ... I'd prefer it with a Naked Vista! It'd weigh somewhere around 55 grams + or -. But we'd still get awesome crystal clear video on our flights and reap the H U G E benefits of a whoop that weighs about 30% less! It would fly awesome! 😎🤘
With the flywoo ultra naked o3, flywoo 03 adapter plate, and a newbee drone adapter plate, the mobula8 drops into the sub 100g drone with the battery included. Mine came out to 68g (no battery)
Would love to see you fly the analogue version of the mob8 your thoroughness would be refreshing. Also information of other beta flight modes worth adding ? Great as always.
Analog? What? Something for us non digi peasants? 😂 don’t hold yer breath brother 😳 Only joking, sometimes he does do an analog review but I don’t know what the near damn silence over the mob 8 is across YT is all about 🤷♂️ shogun Emperor fpv has done some great vids on it 👍🤝
@@bugsy742 haha I hear you! … it has felt very bare on the 8… I’ve gone through pretty much everyone else’s videos on it… can’t help but feel like they are never thorough enough… plus I just like JB’s style 🤞🏽
@@Hrichs my thoughts exactly it’s like just skirting over things- she looks like absolute fun, I’d like to have candy analog one with hd gyroflow like the mob 7 has! I think it has so much potential and want to know more! 😅👍🤝
@Joshua Bardwell I was assisting someone with setting this up. The USB wasn't detected on the computer to convert to a COM port. I believe the issue may be that the USB cable lacks data transfer capability. The impulseRC_driver wasn't detected by the flight controller. I think I need to buy a USB-mini cable with data capability. Let me know if there's anything else that needs to be looked into.
Uh oh, I prefer horizon mode, if flying indoors. 😂 What did I miss? I like to be able to go flips or dives, but still be able to avoid crashing to easily inside.
Horizon mode is a liability.. It's angle mode until it just freaks out and flips on you. Learn how to do the flips properly, you'll enjoy it i promise.
@@Secret1one2Interesting. I hadn't heard about that. I have flown acro indoors, but find that a stabilized mode is easier to stop on a dime with, in tight spaces. I guess I need to up my skill level.
Great review - nice little bird if I needed another ;-)... Never understood why Betaflight couldn't implement a "save your configuration/translate it to the new firmware/reinstall the configuration" method.
ive been waiting for this day. whoops with the 03. this is going to be fun. i just ordered the cinnebot 30 03 and the goggles 2. cant wait thanks for the video josh. btw i also ordered the zoro els
The Cinelog20 O3 is also 2 inch and +4min flighttime is realistic, i use 750mah and also 660mah HV, almost not difference in flighttime, if you want longer flight, think the CL20 is a better option.
I Have a Request Joshua, Can you maybe make a playlist with like these types of drones that are small and use like DJI 03 Air Units, even for possible ones in the future that you may review?
I want to see an comparison on the new micros and which to buy, Pavo Pico, Mobula O3, Flywoo O3, maybee put the Rotor Riot Walksnal together. So many Options for FPV People…
It's already so fragile, making the 03 naked will surely cause some people to really bust this up, costing lots of money to repair! Nah, I'd rather have the huge weight savings of the Naked Vista! It will still give us crystal clear flying, great range, awesome penetration, but save a ton of weight! I could care less about the 4K video I'd take just to clog up my hard drive, never viewing it again. Lol Waste of time for me. This would fly sooooo much better at around 55g vs 80 it's at now. We'd get great flight times outta that same lipo JB barely got 2 minutes from. Sometimes we just need to face facts. This is really, truly, too small of a craft to carry such a heavy VTX. Sure, they did it, but that doesn't mean it's great ... It's just Yeh! Shaving off approx. 25 grams could definitely make it great! And, we don't lose much! 🤔🧐👍
I'm on a super-tight budget, so I'm looking at getting an analog version with ELRS. I'm going to get an 03 mount and bodge my Caddx Turtle V2 into it. Looks like it'll fit.
That's crazy, my analog gets 5 to 7min flying pretty good with the tattu 2s 550 v1. Must be the air unit. Fun quad though and great video! That tornado was about a mile from me as well in Farragut
@@Phoen1x883 Heat and powerusage doesnt mean much, the O3 has no active cooling, that's why it gets that hot. If it had a fan, it would be a lot cooler, would you than say it uses less power because it feels better? :p
Bro, it's ultra heavy for an 85mm whoop. Remember, Mr. Shutterbug made an 85mm whoop that weighs 39 grams... This is over DOUBLE that! It's a very fragile flying barge...a bloated cow! But, you go ahead and try flying those things you asked about... See how it turns out. 🤷🤦 At best... It's good for flying slow and getting 4k video. That's about it. You want a much better flying DJI equipped whoop? Build your own 85mm but use a Naked Vista instead... Probably save about 25 grams and improve flight characteristics to so much better it'll blow yer mind! Seriously! 🤯💯
I’ve just been looking at the pavo pico as I’d like a small drone I could fly indoors as well as outside and would work with the DJI fpv controller and goggles 2 I got with DJI avata when there’s no wind. Would you say this one is better ?
Slightly off-topic question, but that plug that goes from the 03 air unit where the harness attaches to the board. What would I do if I broke one of those off the board? Do I need to solder all of those little Pinz back on? Can I use electrical conductive glue? Or can the plastic harness itself just be glued down and is that enough to make contact with the Pins?
I have the HDZERO version and it rips! On thing tho. The model match on mine would not update on the FC when I turned it on and off at the radio, whether the quad was powered or not. There is a model match check box on a tab under the ELRS page that pops up when you have your quad in wifi mode. I learned that from one of the guys on the ELRS discord.
Amazing flying and review, Joshua! Pretty nice footage! 😃 I don't remember seeing solar panels on your roof before... How long did you put it? They're going to install 10 sheets (boards?) here in about a month. Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
I picked up the analog version of the Mobula8. I really like the quad, except the analog version has an SPI XLRS receiver. I had to flash it to 4.4 to get the receiver to bind. I should have bought the version without a camera and transmitter and added an analog VTX. I have yet to make the jump to digital.
