Something I do highly recommend with body lifts is using a rubber block (similar to a regular lift) that you slide under and onto the pinch welds (especially with lowered cars). For a slammed 2GS like mine I love the my local hobby shop for having these at they’re shop
As an electrical engineer use the 30 Amp receptacle. Also if you buy a plug it will tell you what wire goes where. So you won’t make that mistake. Just remember before working on anything electrical. TURN OFF THE POWER. if you are unsure which circuit to hit. Just hit the main. Either way you safe. Don’t ask me about the color code. It changed the year after I graduated.
Yeah, the 15A has worked for 2 years now. 98% of the time there are no issues. However, a couple times it has popped a breaker inside the Stratus unit itself. It’s an easy “fix” (flip the breaker back) but doing it to 30A the first time would prevent this inconvenience. On my next lift, the 9000XT, I plan to have an electrician come in and just do a 220 outlet nearby. I was quoted $230 for that.
Nice video. I just ordered one... and I couldn't agree more with the statement of working on cars for 25 years on the back and knees. Thats why I got one now. Thanks for the video I will watch again when I set mine up.
If you made a hole in the ground, like the holes that are made in the workshops , it would be better and cheaper, and you could make a cover for it , to close it when not in use, not only that, working standing and raising your hands up is comfortable, but with this lifter, You can not work under the car while standing completely. this is just an opinion .
Thank you for explaining how to slow down the lift lowering a vehicle. My car came down so fast that I thought the struts were going to shoot through the hood
You’re welcome. The hard part is you cannot gauge the speed without a load on the lift. So you almost have to test it with a car on there. It would be much better if it was set on “way too slow” from the factory and we could adjust from there instead.
Thank you. The tiles are for looks and grip. I would liken it to a wood floor in the house - not entirely necessary, but much more comfortable. If I could go back in time I would get solid tiles instead of vented. A lot of stuff drops into these tiles and it drives me nuts!
I've been looking at narrow lifts for my residential two car garage. This is a strong consideration. My truck is 7100lbs so it will work for that. My question is how tall are the little ramps? I would be parking my car (2013 Mustang GT, stock ride height) there. I have about 4" of reliable clearance.... Nice video! Edit to add: You can raise your garage door tracks to get more clearance, but you'll loose your storage space.
Hi - thanks for the comment and question. Stratus lists the min height as 4.125”. In my case, as you probably saw, my floor has Garage Flooring LLC TrueLock tiles, which are about .33” thick. Thus my min is about 3.8”. My car is now lowered and fits no prob. It would be close for your Mustang at 4”. Also, I have had some trouble with this lift design and the lock mechanisms and Stratus is going to send me the new design in JAN. They are also sending frame attach bars for trucks. That said, I would personally wait for the new design. I’ll be testing it thoroughly and I will release an episode on it as well. Thanks for the mention on the garage door. I’ll definitely keep it in mind!
I don’t know why but my favorite part of the video was when who I assume is your kid yells hallelujah! 😂 you’re my 2GS idle man, ever since you told me the part number for the apexi AFC. I still haven’t bought it. But I’ve installed coilovers, an angle kit, and poly bushings almost everywhere. Next is installing the Kaaz 2 way diff and 18in wheels. How should I start my RU-vid channel? You think anyone would watch my budget build? 😂
Thanks for the review. All of the assembly errors, design errors etc. would make me very uncomfortable with this manufacturer. This may be plenty good enough for some people, but not me.
I’ll have a new vid on the 9000 coming out THU. It blew me away. Night and day difference in every way. And trust me, I would have no hesitation slamming STRATUS if there were any serious issues. They did a great job on the new design.
2 reasons: 1) the lift slides pretty easily when my front tires bump into the ramps and on the tiles it would be very slick. 2) the weight of the lift with a car on it exceeded the tile max weight rating.
Have you attempted to install a hydraulic quick disconnect for the lines? I'm in the process of looking for fittings to do this so I can move the lift without the control box.
No but that’s a great idea. I suspect these are -4AN? Please report back if you figure something out. I’m guessing Stratus avoids this due to the risk of fluid bleed (thereby lowering the lift).
@@ForwardMomentum I don't have stratus but a very similar lift that looks to be from the same factory. They told me the fitting size is M14x1.5 C Type. I believe c type is JIC which is similar to AN. Now I'm just trying to locate a metric to standard fitting to use hydraulic disconnects. Good point about the lift slowly going down but I believe all load is off the hydraulics once it lowers down on the lock bar.
Thank you. You can lock it at different heights. Some feedback I gave Stratus was that the first safety lock was actually pretty high up. So I suggested lower locking points on new models. I was told they were going to incorporate that change, so be sure to check on that. I recommend the 9000 series and have an updated video of you need it. 👍
This is a great video. Three years later are you still happy with it? Any issues? Any update? I am considering one but there are a lot of options out there and not sure about this.
Hi - I had a problem with this older model, which is no longer offered. Stratus replaced it free with a newer model (9000E) and I have been using it ever since. I love the 9000. I have additional videos to help you make the decision. They have an even newer 9000 now and I would love to get my hands on it at some point. Thumbs up from me! 👍
Will do. I’m still trying to get confirmation that this thing is compatible with a Porsche 944, which has Jack points that are a little narrow. Need to call them to be sure.
Sort of. For example, if you’re working on a front-engine vehicle most of it is forward of the front bar. So you can cruise around up front. Same with the rear. It’s the work midship (between the bars) that really wouldn’t allow much movement. Hope that helps.
Also do NOT buy a 5 gal tank of oil. That’s a big waste of money. Hydraulic oil recycles itself within the system. That will just take up unnecessary space.
That was actually the most economical option for me locally. Only TSC had this oil and only in this qty and at the cheapest price around. Shipping it wasn’t an option for obvious reasons.
@@ForwardMomentum that’s understandable. Got take what’s out there I just wanted people to know if they can get a smaller jug do so. But I understand. FYI. Your garage is DOPE!!!
I don’t drop stuff! Seriously though, it is a drawback. A black screw being dropped on that floor is like dropping it into a fast-moving river. Let’s just say I have a lot of magnets around. 😂
I normally do in most of my car mod videos. However, I did not here because: 1) shipping is a huge factor depending on location and/or if residential lift gate service is needed or not 2) lift pricing is subject to change and these videos could be up for years or decades seemingly spreading false pricing info 3) it’s really not that hard to Google it or click the links (or use the info) in the vid description to find it. 4) if I said this lift cost me $1800 it would be misleading considering one must add nearly $600 for delivery and potentially tax if the person lives in a certain area.
every video i see of this lift, everyone has some type of quality control issue in the manufacture. i dont think ill be trusting my life with a company that has zero quality control, by climbing under a lift that if it fails will kill you, not might, will. for as much as they cost, to have such crappy quality control is unacceptable.
I respect your comment. This particular lift was a decade-old design at the time I bought it, which I didn’t realize. They really stepped it up on the new design and I love my 9000E. I did a video on that as well.
