Hey gang,
You know the deal by now - I work for a company that buys and sells comics books (www.sellmycomicbooks.com) and it's my job to grade the issues we sell as "raw singles" on eBay (seller name: dotcomcomics).
I never have any idea what is in any box I’m given to grade. Thus, I invite you to look over my shoulder as I make the discovery of what my day will entail. It’s always a good time as we re-discover some great old comic books and recount stories about all the amazing worlds that were!

Hey Duke! Those EC books had some classic stories to read and remember. I was born in 1955 and these comics were just to frightening to look at back then. I love the SciFi covers. Booger! Ron from Melbourne Fl.

I love the older comics and the history of all these weird boogers! The horror comics were my thing reading as a kid, and I grew up in the 70's/80's, but I had my hands on a couple of original tales of the crypt, the haunt of fear, and so forth.

I think a comic book vending machine would be pretty awesome. Since you can’t buy them anywhere outside of comic shops anymore it would be a great way for kids to have access to the books.

What a great treat! It was great to see some of these issues after reading about EC in The Ten Cent Plague. Thanks for sharing. Great telling of the Gaines story. He was hooked on "diet pills" Dexedrine. I loved how he defended that severed head cover! "Mr. Gaines, would you say this cover is in good taste?" (Bill) "Yes, for a horror comic. That is good taste." Classic stuff! Horrific booger!

My favorite EC comic was “Horrific Booger” #24 from February of 1955. It’s the one where Ned Peterson was stargazing one night and was hit by an anti-proton geo-phasic pro-plasma subatomic particle beam from an unknown source. He was then transported to July 1972 and took over the body of Michael Scott. Michael’s wife never noticed the change in her husband of forty years. Not until she was warned by her brother Tommy Reed. Tommy told Nora, “I’m telling you there is something different about Michael. He has somehow changed. I can’t tell you what happened to him. I can only say that man is different. He’s snot your husband!”

I liked seeing the old Mad magazines (comics) some of the covers are pieces of art, that no one would take the time and effort to do today. Keep up the good work, Horrific (Satirical) Boogers.

Iv been falling out of comics latley, never liked super hero stuff and its all burning me out so its nice seeing all these ECs. The kinda comics i really do like.

"...writers today can't tell a story in 10 ISSUES!" (RU-vid-TALITY!) I'm a HUGE fan of EC COMICS with several reprints in a variety of formats! I zeroed in on the crime comics and think SHOCK SUSPENSTORIES was one of THE coolest series they published, right next to MAD and PANIC! If they had continued. SHOCK..., and TALES FROM THE CRYPT in the formats later used by WARREN PUBLISHING, who knows? TRIVIA/ According to the Grand Comics Database, the infamous cover was from CRIME SUSPENSTORIES # 22! The reason why Gaines said the cover was in good taste is because he remembered what it looked like before he ordered it cropped!

When I was a teenager in the 70s I had a thing for horror comics and mags like creepy and eerie, I never had any ec books but I am getting the trades. Horrific booger.

😎HORRn 🎺🎷🎶🎵RIFFiC BOObly GERLs , daddio Duke! On the covers of those ECee on the eyes titles! ShockSuspense Stories and Mad ( with its 🎯comic strip / book parodies!) are my favorites! I believe I may have cited the 1957 Dean Martin - Jerry Lewis film Artists and Models as a worthwhile production that dealt with the pre code comic book controversy! IMO Duke the horror titles were the false reason for all the noise because if horror was so taboo then why weren't tv executives censored.from showing vampires , werewolves etc on screen and the growing popularity of tv horror show hosts wasn't curtailed by sponsors🙄? IMO the social issues presented in titles like ShockSuspense , the war titles and some sci-fi books especially the infamous Judgment Day story is what propelled action! 😱Imagine if the other companies started dealing with social including racial issues the children might start seeing minority characters treated equally as their white counterparts! 🤔 I argue here and now that Tarlton , the astronaut from Judgement Day should be given "Key" status by current "experts" as the first futuristic non stereotyped Black character in comics ; a space explorer years before John Stewart!
