Is everyone in Kansas white?
Is everyone in Kansas a hard core bible thumper?
And is everyone in Kansas an anti-abortion, conservative, creationist, farmer? Nooo theres no way…
We’re going to go over that and a whole lot more than JUST that. So lets gas up the combine we’re gonna unbox the state of Kansas!
The modern American farmer. A very noble career and a respected way of life. What was once a life of backbreaking hard work and pride has become more corporatized than ever. Modern American farms like this one in Kansas turn out more volume with less labor than ever. That sounds like it would be a good thing, but as we’ll soon discover, it’s actually not.
There’s a saying that Kansas farmers like this help feed the world. While agriculture in this state is still very lucrative and VERY important to the economy of Kansas, times have changed now, and farms like this are realizing they need to change, too, or there’s gonna be some big problems ahead.
But Kansas isn’t all wheat fields and cattle farms. Sorta. I mean most people experience Kansas from inside their cars, and this is the only Kansas they know. But there’s actually a bit more to this state than just tractors and wheat. And if you’re thinking about moving here, you should know the ins and outs of this state so YOU know where to plant YOUR roots.
This is Kansas. Now you could split this state up into many ways, but the BEST way is like this, where you have western Kansas, central Kansas, southeast Kansas, the northeast part of the state, and of course, the most populous part - the Kansas City metro area. And there’s a WHOLE lot goin on over there. But we’ll get to that.

You should come do a video about the area I'm from. A small rural farm town in west/central IL. And I know all the surrounding towns I've lived in all across the area. I'm currently in another small rural farm town in the very northwest pocket of IL 15 min from WI. It's far less interesting or cultural up here.

People that complain about the boring existence in Kansas are boring unimaginable people to begin with. After living for an excruciating period of time in Washington and California I could not be happier to be in the Wichita area of Kansas now. Life is so much more peaceful and stress free. People are actually pleased to meet you and smile when they greet you. Kansas is a great place to live and raise a family.

Born and raised here in Kansas. I'm from Topeka ,lived in Wichita for a number of years, and currently in Austin, TX. Pretty much spot on with a lot your observations. Wichita also has Eastborough. Goddard an Maize out west and Andover in the east are really nice areas. If you aren't an engineer or working in Koch Industries there isn't much opportunities which is why I took off. All the drugs in Wichita are in the South side. Topeka also has a lot of rich history in the Civill Rights Movement with Brown Vs. Board of Education. @@6532697 Most of rural Kansas has junk demographics as anyone with half a brain or ambition leaves for better opportunities in larger cities if they don't inherit the family business/farm/ranch, etc. Also, the CHEAP housing prices are not a good thing because it just attracts a larger undesirable element.

I’ve been helping my grandpa with wheat harvest this past week. A guy’s grain truck broke down in the middle of the road. He asked for a fire extinguisher or water since his brakes were literally on fire. Usually I wouldn’t get out of my car (truck in this case) and help someone in the city. Normally it would be very dangerous to get out of your car, leaving the keys in the ignition, but I always feel safe out in the country, even when I’m all alone with a stranger. After I helped him put out the fire with a bunch of water bottles. I was about to leave since I was driving to get some food from Yoder (an Amish town so you know it’s good food), but he stopped me and asked me how much the water bottles were worth and paid me for them. Good guys out here.

By that time I had lived in 7 different states. When dad retired, we moved to extreme north western Kansas. Like, 30 minute drive to the nearest store kinda rural. I did end up graduating from high school there but I simply could wait to get out. The hunting and fishing are great but there wasn’t much else to do. We went to a place called “Flight Safety” which was a company where pilots from all over were trained on simulators. My grandson got use one to Iand a big jet and later to fly an actual Cessna. We toured a salt mine where lots of Hollywood props were stored. There were many Mennonite families in the area. That vacation was one if the best memories my grandson has. I'm a native Texan who has lived in all geographical regions of the U.S. I do a lot of over-the-road traveling throughout the lower 48 states. (No, I'm not a trucker.) I have been to or through Kansas a number of times, and I like Kansas. I generally drive the beautiful wide-open spaces of Kansas on I-70, I-135 and I-35. It's especially a pleasure driving in Kansas after I'm been stuck in traffic on the East or West Coasts, where it is heavily populated and very congested. The Kansans whom I've encountered have always been polite, friendly and down-to-earth - the kind of people that I like. No matter where you live, there are always going to be pros and cons. If there are any Kansans reading my comment, know that this Texan gives your state a thumbs up. You should be proud of Kansas! P.S. I don't give that rating to some of the other states.

Place is great after living in Florida 63 years. Heat not as bad (no sticky heat) and neither is the traffic, unless you live in one of the cities. No free land here though. Kansas does help out of staters start a farm, but you must have a business plan and qualify for lots. But it's not free land, though easier to get than most anywhere. You will still need lots of money. For a sparse and conservative state, there are enough Democrats in the 3 cities alone to elect a Democrat governor. Question is, what do young people do here for fun? Not much for them to do here. What I like about Kansas over Florida is due to it's sparsness, meaning less idiots per square inch around you.

@jason royale I don't know bud, I've yet to figure out Kansas politics. Some claim it to be a red state, as the members in Congress would suggest, but DMV was closed for 3 months over covid. Apparently, Republicans in Kansas are OK with this. Did not happen in Florida, mask and an appt was all you need. Florida voters signed enough petitions to create a referendum on the ballot, and Floridains voted to pass medicinal Marijuana. However, still, the state is dragging their feet to make this legal. Kansas seems to be the Bible belt. I cannot understand why Christains vote Republican. I mean, what has Republicans ever done for Christians? I was in grade school when they took the Bible out of schools. This was in the early 60s. Then abortion became legal in 73. Since then, Republicans have done nothing for the cause of Christians. Perhaps they vote Republican as the lesser of 2 evils. Christians haven't figured out, they are still voting for evil. I hate politics, but hate worse, like you, they intrude upon my liberty the Constitution guarantees. No one seems to care bud, and as long as the 2 major parties control everything, nothing will ever change for the good of our liberty.

I'm in my 20's and moved back to Kansas 3 years ago, the Manhattan area to be more specific. Manhattan is a wonderful area to live, nice friendly community, good schools, diversity and relatively low crime compared to other cities similar to it's size. With any college town your gonna have petty crime, but violent crimes out here don't happen very much. (unlike the wonderful state capital 40 miles to the east). Tons to do if you like the outdoors, lots of fishing, hiking, or partying since its a college town. Also jobs are starting to move in with Kansas State being a major agriculture college. They just built a massive NBAF facility by the university with tons of new jobs. In general the Manhattan area is a fun family friendly place with a lot to offer, my wife and I really enjoy and love this place.
@sandilobianco6734
@sandilobianco6734 2 года назад
NBAF has been supposedly being built for the last 10 years. They will not hire locals. K-state will hire out of states or foreigners to work there. I know I lived in this police town called the little apple for over 20 years. Don’t you notice all the restaurants/ businesses closed? Cocobolos, Hastings, Varneys book store etc.. It’s a dying town.

@@sandilobianco6734 Hastings closed everywhere. Yes its unfortunate about Coco Bolos but they are still operating out of there catering kitchen. Alot of places come and go from Aggieville its expensive to rent that's normal for College Districts in every college town. Varney's has been closed for like 5-6 years who would of ever guessed a book store would close, since most people use Audiobooks or some other kind of internet form of reading. If that is the logic your going by every place in America is dying because places close down everyday. In order for places to be dying they need to stop gaining population, Manhattan has continued to grow every census.

I've lived in Kansas since 1972. My family transfered here from Kentucky due to my Dad's job. When we arrived here, Olathe's population was around 25,000 residents. It's now around 142,000. I had some exposure to Hutcinson back in the 1980's when I marched Sky Ryders Drum & Bugle Corps for 2 seasons. I went to Emporia State University in Emporia, Lived in Wichita, KS for a year after graduating and moved to Shawnee, KS, then to Lenexa KS and then back to Olathe. I've been to the Kansas National Guard base in Salina Kansas and Fort Riley, Kansas Military Base over 22 years of Kansas National Guard Service. I've also been to Topeka quite a bit but the areas I've been through are not very impressive. Fore being a Capital one would think it's wouldn't look like a dump but it does. Maybe the newer housing areas may be nice but the City proper looks really run down and in disrepair. Homeless: Yes, we have homeless in Kansas but we don't have huge Homeless camps like in California. We have a homeless camp on the West side of Olathe that is hidden but I've dealt with people from that camp before. You will see the occasional begger at intersection in Kansas City, MO, Kansas City, KS, Olathe and Wichita. I'm pretty much done with Living in Johnson County. There are way too many people moving here from the Coasts, buying up those $550K plus homes and bringing their politics with them. I'm working to prepare my house for sale and move out to the Country where I can have 20 acres and be able to work on my hobbies without restrictions. I'm not sure where we we will be moving as we haven't gone out and really researched in person, areas we would like to live yet but I have some Ideas I don't want to share because I don't want a bunch of Left Wing crazy people following.

When I do drive back to Kansas to visit friends and family, I do enjoy the fact there are few crowds and traffic issues, but the super, slow pace of life there with few opportunities does not make me want to move back there. I have been all over the entire West, the National Parks, Rocky Mountains, both high desert and low desert, the entire California Coast but nowhere I have been to where I truly felt like I was in heaven on the highway approach into Lawrence, Kansas. To me it is the most spiritual and gratifying city and state on this planet. Sound crazy? My roots are there. Even though I left just before the age of 10, my first decade of life there was enough to cement Kansas into my heart and soul. I didn't realize that until I came back for my first visit in 1991 and was totally blown away with emotion. Then in 1994 during a visit to KU , in the library basement I saw a very kind senior man who turned and looked at me and said, "Welcome home." I smiled and walked away, then I went back to look for him and he was gone. There were no windows and doors in the basement, nowhere for him to go. The man was wearing a mechanics uniform and later found out that's what my grandfather liked to wear. He had been deceased 30 years at the time. That was my sign to keep coming back to Kansas.

Moved to Wichita from Washington state 3 years ago. Best decision I ever made. All the so-called "exciting" cities to live are now completely trashed with homeless, drugs, crime, and expensive cost of living, and traffic. I feel like my stress level has almost disappeared living in Wichita.

@kayakdog121
@kayakdog121 Месяц назад
@@kingshanethe1st No, not at all. I lived there 31 years and have seen it all and could go back and visit any time if I wanted to, but I don't. Here's the thing....I have everything I need here for my daily life at a reasonable price, in peace, with no chaos, and I live 10 minutes from a large airport in the center of the country and can hop on a plane and be anywhere in a very short time. To me it's the best of all worlds.

AMAZING how people can run down a State. At least we ARE NOT and DO NOT want to be like California and other States. You CAN NOT beat the BEAUTY of the Flint Hills in Kansas and many other beautiful spots. Not mentioned Senator Alan Spector is also from Kansas. He and Senator Bob Dole both were from Russell. @@boodro2122 I did play a lot of basketball, that was our main sport in school, but I grew up at Rosalia (just east of ElDorado). I was very active in 4-H and won many trips and showed cattle at many shows. Nothing wrong with the small schools. Looked back thru my memories and Richard Theurer, jim Shetlar and Carol Harris all from Sumner County would have been some names I was in 4-H with. We were all Sate winners in 1962 and 1963. I was State Rabbit in 1962 and State Jr. Leadership in 1963. I also knew a Larry Dugan from S. Haven very well and used to work with him.

Growing up in a small town awarded me a childhood that I am truly proud of. I cant even give my childhood to my kids. :-/ When we were 7 years old, we'd take our buddy's dads' .22 rifle down to the "crick" and shoot things. We'd explore land. @@KS5040 I am a KU grad. My living boundary is limited to the only two blue counties in entire states, Douglas and Johnson. To be fair, Kansas red counties residents are no where as red as Texas, Missouri and Oklahoma. We do have a work life balance and good schools in JoCo. However, if we want to visit a decent national parks or a large city, it is too far to drive. The cost to go out of town is limiting the people going out to see other states or get to know other cultures oversea. Over time, people would become a product of the environment.
@KS5040
@KS5040 3 года назад
@@cailarchitectatopks That's why I've stated in various replies to other people regarding the Kansas videos on here that the "central location" means very little when it is centrally located close to NOTHING desirable. The selection of direct flights out of the joke of an airport is quite limited considering the overall size of the metro area. As usual, KC drops the ball and then only realizes a decade and a half later that the horribly obsolete terminal is hurting business travel, and leading to fewer flight selections for locals. The bad weather, high taxes, and overly conservative culture are big cons, and both Missouri and Kansas have a big brain drain problem as the quality of life isn't there at all compared to more desirable areas of the country. I'm glad I left a number of years ago, the grass is greener elsewhere, even if I have to pay somewhat more in housing costs.
