a tip...I used to preheat my pie maker and sausage roll maker but after burnt fingers I do as many others do and do a COLD start...just add more time cooking'

I agree Pam, puff pastry turns into molten goo, when hot, in fact, I often pop it back into the fridge to ‘set’ when filming as the studio lights start the cooking process before it’s ready. I know some brands are a bit quicker than others and even some pastries have different cooking times. My theory… if it smells cooked, looks cooked and you’ve used precooked fillings, then it is cooked. Time is irrelevant lol.thanks for the tip, I’m sure our viewers will find it most helpful, safer and easier to manage. Hope you’ve had a lovely weekend and thanks for watching.;-))

Thank you Lucy, this is such a fun thing to use, so quick and easy, no cutting or shaping and I got 8 little hand pies about the same size as a Maccas Apple Pie out of 1 cup of berries and they were full of fruit, just goes to show how little fruit goes into a store bought one. This appliance is small, light and easy to clean. Don’t know if you can get one in the U.S but I hope you can. This is going to get a bit of a workout lol. Thanks for watching and your lovely feedback. Hope you have a delightful weekend.;-)) Stay safe, my Dear Lucy!

Cheeky, nice job. I am so inspired to get one of these machines. I wrote to Holstein here in the US and asked if they would think about producing a sausage roll maker. I included a link to this video, so they knew what I was talking about. If I get an answer, I'll write you here. For now, I'll keep using my pie maker to make your recipes. Stay safe where you are. Tim and I are following the orders of our state governor by wearing a mask in public and we also wear gloves. Keep the videos coming. I just love them!

Thank you Nancy, this is the Anko brand, marketed here by KMart, I understand you may have had some ‘pop-up’ stores selling their appliances in the US. Our Australian ones operate on 240volt system so it would be useless to you without a transformer. They retail here for $29AUD but when they were scarce people were selling them on eBay for up to $380 AUD. They have really taken off here, it’s the latest must have and such an easy little thing to use. I hope you can eventually get your hands on one for a fair price. I know you and Tim would enjoy using it. We have been using masks and gloves a lot, sanitising everything. Practicing social distance and really staying home as much as possible. I have done most shopping online and even medical appointments are conducted over the phone. These recipes will of course work in the piemaker but these are just great hand pies, you can eat them watching tv or sport without watching what you are eating lol. They also pack very neatly into lunchboxes, being about the same length as a mcdonalds apple pie or sandwich. I got 8 whole berry fruit filled ‘rolls’ with this recipe, it’s only using a cup of frozen blueberries and 2 sheets of store bought puff pastry. So quick and simple, you don’t even have to cut the sheet. Puff pastry is sold here in flat packs of 6-8 or more. I am able to separate each sheet whilst frozen, using a palette knife because each sheet inter layered with a plastic sheet, which means I only have to thaw as much as I need and there is no rolling or cutting. I’m sure the manufacturers of the appliance considered the pastry packet size during development. That is very kind of you to support me as you have and shared my recipe in your request to Holsteins , if they decide to market something similar to this in your country, I’m sure they will be just as popular as they are here. I will be sharing quite a few recipes using it in the future to keep up with my viewers requests for suggested recipe ideas. We hope you continue to stay careful, safe and well and if we all pull together this terrible sickness will be left in the past and we can move forward without fear if it’s spread. Your kind words mean a great deal to me and I really appreciate your thoughtful and kind feedback and I hope I can keep sharing recipes to help you in your kitchen too. Thank you so much for watching.;-))🙏🏻

@@CheekysKitchen Thanks for your reply. You are so kind. Our biggest problem in this country right now is that there is a segment of our population that think this virus is a hoax, fueled by our president. These people refuse to wear masks or social distance. They are getting sick and flooding the hospitals and regretting their inaction just before they die. It's all so unnecessary. It's like they have been hypnotized. Today, he said that the virus is under control, but yesterday, the infections increased by 25%. I am still of the opinion that he just wants to kill our country out of revenge for not supporting him financially after his 6th bankruptcy. He had to go to another country to get financial support. Sorry, for this rant, but it's pretty scary. Thanks for the suggestion of looking at smaller retailers. I will look, maybe at Aldi's, for a machine. I'll have to think about where there might be a retailer selling something like yours. I would love to see Holstein manufacture one. Their products seem to be of higher quality. Take care and stay safe. Hugs to you both!

I agree Nancy, here to we have had a sudden surge in deaths and cases. Mostly aged care facility transmissions. Our states are either closed or severely restricted. Infected people are quarantine themselves, the army has been called in to assist police in checking if they are in fact at home when called upon. More than a quarter of these infected individuals are not home , some have gone to work and others are out socialising. We have had protest rallies against mandatory mask wearing and people are facing on the spot fines of $5,000 for breaching these new laws. For the first few months we had lost 100 people to the virus that number has more than doubled in the last couple of weeks. We are an island. This could not arrive here without human transmission, yet our government is accepting overseas travellers who are flaunting the laws that are protecting the rest of us. It’s is very selfish, very sad and absolutely preventable. All our elective surgeries were stopped but now they are proceeding. First responders are dropping like flies, overworked and exhausted yet 1,000+ strong illegal dance parties are going ahead despite threat of prosecution and potential infection. If this current situation ends, I fear the world will be a much different place and I am fearful of the burden it has placed on future generations. Keep doing what you are doing and we will too. Hopefully our best efforts will protect us and the people we care about. I will keep making recipe videos and trying to help people learn to cook for themselves, especially in isolation. Caring for my viewers and personally congratulating them on their newfound kitchen talents. It is lovely to hear the sensible precautions you are taking to keep healthy and remain that way.;-))

That's about the same shape I've done for a fruit hand pie without a special maker. I always had trouble knowing how much filling to put in and sometimes making a mess while trying to close it. This would be so much easier to do. Unfortunately, I don't think we can get that here in the US. I just looked at the Kmart website and didn't see that there and my local Kmart closed a few years ago. But I'm thankful I can at least get a mini pie maker on Amazon.
@CheekysKitchen
@CheekysKitchen 2 года назад
Thank you for your feedback Caitlin, I think pies are to Australia are like what Fish and Chips are to England or hotdogs are to the US. Our Nation is a Pie and Sausage Roll eating country. Every bakery sells them, there are shops that just sell pies snd nothing else. The pie maker and sausage roll maker inventors obvious saw a need for them here and they have been extremely successful. Our household electricity supply is 240 volts as opposed to your 110 volt supply. Even if you could get one from Australia, you would need a current converter and different power plug to be able to use it. Some of my lovely US viewers have suggested there is a corn dog maker available to buy in your country that may be the closest thing yo our sausage roll maker that you could use for our recipes. As it’s not available here in Australia I have no personal knowledge of its capabilities. All if these sausage roll maker recipes here, can be easily adapted to the small pie maker Amazon has. I’m glad you found this recipe interesting and I’m sorry you can’t get a sausage roll maker because they are just so quick and simple to use and very economical to buy as well. With a lightweight and a compact size they have become incredibly popular here for families to use. I hope you are staying safe and well and thank you very much for watching and taking the time to leave your lovely feedback.;-))🙏🏻😋

Fabulous feedback Woodstream, thank you so much. I’m sure my Northern Hemisphere viewers will be most appreciative , as well. I’m delighted you got hold of one and enjoyed your first efforts. They are such a versatile appliance. We have recently been victims of a massive unprecedented flooding event where 9’ or 2.6m of river water gushed through our home. My 2nd storey was soared thankfully but the destruction was total for many. Every week we volunteer to make a hot meal and dessert for those less fortunate, have lost their homes and kitchens and are living in temporary accomodation. Tomorrow night I will be making spicy jalapeño corn bread in the sausage roll maker along with a triple batch of my lentil vege Pattie’s. It’s always a fun night where the community pulls together. Thanks for watching and we hope you enjoy your sausage roll maker.;-))

Thank you Patricia this is the $29 Kmart Sausage Roll Maker, available again in most Kmart stores in Australia. During the Covid crisis stock supplies were interrupted which led to them being a highly prized item until stocks resumed. It is the same unit I used for the corn dog and cheese dogs. You can expect to see quite a few more recipes in it on this channel as I explore and experiment with new ways to get the most out of it and inspire our viewers to do the same. Mistral make one, Aldi has its own version from time to time but I think it is called a pastry maker, which I think is more apt as the name suggests it is more than just a Sausage Roll maker. I hope that helps, if you don’t live in Australia, I have no idea of different suppliers in other countries, I’m afraid. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.;-))

Ok thank you I will keep looking. I live in the United States in New Jersey and we only have a few k Marts left all over closed up
@CheekysKitchen
@CheekysKitchen 3 года назад
Oh Patricia , the bad news is here in Australia we operate on 240v as opposed to your 110v electrical supply system so apart from the outlet plug being different, it’s unlikely your local stores would carry them, even though they are manufactured in China. Some of our viewers have commented that there is an appliance called a corn dog maker available state side that might be your answer. I have no personal experience with one nor have I seen one or know who us a local stockist. Amazon, Walmart , Costco or a target store may be your best bet. We flew out of New Jersey last year on a our last big trip to your beautiful country. I know exactly what part of the US you live in. We had the most wonderful time and can’t wait to return , if not for Covid we would have been back this year. We sailed into La, drive up Pac1 to Emeryville boarded an Amtrak sleeper and crossed to NY, went through a snow storm in the Rockies and crossed the Mississippi during flood. 3 days in NY was not nearly enough, we saw a Broadway show paid respects at the Memorial to the people who lost there lives on September 11. Sailed out to the Statue of Liberty, did a night open too bus tour, wandered around Central Park in the rain. Then we grabbed a car, drove up to Maine, across to Buffalo, into Ontario, down through Pennsylvania, paid our respects at the memorial there, visited the Amish Community in Bird in Hand, down to DC, visited several Smithsonian Institute museums, the Air & Space one at Dulles Airport. Went to Arlington and got kicked out as soon as we parked the car, there was some sort of secret emergency, heavily armed guards and Marine Tactical Response officers evacuated the entire cemetery, very very quickly, it was a bit scary really, even the security staff on site were rattled. We walked around the Washington Monument, White House area and drove back up to New Jersey on the Labour Day Weekend, so lots of things were closed. We tried to stay off freeways as much as possible preferring to experience the real America staying in small country towns and eating in local restaurants and diners. We did plan to return to the East Coast and drive down to Florida, catching up with friends in Atlanta. Overseas travel is not possible at the moment but just reliving part of our journey in this post has made me long to be back there right now, not on the plane getting there mind you but actually there. That long flight is a real deterrent, that’s for sure. We have probably seen as much of your homeland as many Americans. Sorry about my reminiscing post, so many fond memories, I didn’t mean to bore you. Just thinking about that trip has really made my day. Thanks for your lovely feedback. I hope your quest for a sausage roll maker is successful, they really are a natty little invention.;-))

@CheekysKitchen
@CheekysKitchen 2 года назад
Great question Hayley, no I do not brush pie maker or sausage roll Maker pastries with milk or egg wash prior to baking. They cook well and have a crisp golden finish, without sticking or cooking before the filling is ready. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching, hope you enjoy some of our other sausage roll maker recipes. We certainly have some weird and wacky combinations that are simply irresistible.;-))

Hi, I am using my sausage roll maker and when I close the lid it doesn't lock. I'm using a spoonful of filling but it still does not click when locking.
@CheekysKitchen
@CheekysKitchen 4 года назад
Darla20075, make sure the latch is outside the handle, then using both hands , squeeze the left side with your left hand and squeeze the right side with your right hand. It has to squash the pastry to cut it. You should be able to close the clasp. It is quite a positive action. The clip follows right under so that the clasp is in line with the rest of the handle. If that makes sense. Make sure you don’t have any hard bits caught in the ‘scissor action’ crimping part. Like pieces of raw apple or nuts etc because it won’t cut those. Make sure it’s not too full because that won’t close either. Juicy fillings may bubble out the edges a bit, practice will teach you how high to fill it. Each filling is different. Frozen berries, for instance, squash down once they are thawed and start to cook. Some foods, like eggs, expand a little. Be careful when you release the catch that it might pop up quickly, especially if the food contains steam, which of course can burn you if you aren’t careful. Don’t let these instructions put you off, I’m trying to cover every possible situation you are ever likely to encounter. I hope that helps and thanks for watching.:-))

@CheekysKitchen
@CheekysKitchen 4 года назад
Well John Doe, it depends on your families needs and your style of cooking. It’s a small investment to make and I will be showcasing this appliance on my channel over the coming weeks, hopefully this will assist you with your decision. I dont sell them, which makes my personal opinion, totally unbiased. I can tell you they are small, light, very easy to wipe clean, not to big to store on their end, are 850watts so will run on lots of inverters for travellers plus they are more economical to run for small baking batches than a power hungry conventional household oven. You cook from cold so there is no excess power usage with preheating. They are quite similar in build quality to your pie maker. This recipe made 8 hand pies/rolls with just one cup of frozen blueberries, each of which had much more actually fruit than a McDonalds Apple Pie at about the same size. You can of course add water to the recipe to make more ‘juice’ but that will only dilute the delicious berry flavour. You can also control the sugar content or substitute it for artificial sweetener if you wish so it’s advantageous to people watching there sugar intake. You know what’s in it because you are in control of its contents. I have been using it for a few days with a wide variety of recipes I have invented for it and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it for beginners and experienced cooks alike. Good luck with your decision and thank you very much for your thought provoking feedback and for watching.;-))
