More of a fancy drill than a mill, which is exactly what you needed. I dig it for your application.

We mostly use it for the variable speed drill and the clamp down milling table. I'll address this in my next video.

a nice new toy in the shop. 😉 Every time I see installation of new equipment I wonder about the electricity in US. Here in Germany every house has 3 phase at 230 V with at least 35 A, nowadays mostly 63 A. We don't need converters or something like that. 😊 All the best for your shop!! Dieter
@simcoespring
@simcoespring Год назад
Most places in town have access to 550 3 phase. Or at least 220 3 phase. Here out in the country we only have 220 single phase. 550 would be so helpful, however insanely expensive for a small shop like mine to afford running it from the next town about 1.4km away. Oh well. I'll make due with what we have here.

You should have been more careful uncrating that machine. With the price of lumber these days, it might have been worth almost as much as your new mill/drill.

Are you guys part of the blue man group?An old bridge port milling machine would be the answer.
@simcoespring
@simcoespring Год назад
I looked into bridge port milling machines and I could only find ones that are 550 3 phase or 220 3 phase. Can't seem to find one that is 220 single phase. unless I bought a phase converter, but i don't know how that works.
@lefthandedleprechaun8702

Glad you got a new piece equipment you needed. Just curious, do you use HSS or cobalt bits to drill spring leaves?
@simcoespring
@simcoespring Год назад
HSS, however then we crank them down to 130 RPM and if we drill more than 1 hole we use coolant.

@SimpleLife1971
@SimpleLife1971 Год назад
The machine seems well built and should provide years of use. One question, if the table needs to be raised our lowered, won't you lose your X and Y locations?
@simcoespring
@simcoespring Год назад
yes it looks like that is true. up, down x and y are all linked together with one crank handle.
@jackdawg4579
@jackdawg4579 Год назад
yes, but it doesnt look like that will worry him for what he is doing with it.
@SimpleLife1971
@SimpleLife1971 Год назад
@@jackdawg4579 Whether it worry's him or not, the machine has a pretty nice X-Y table capable of some decent precision as long as you don't need to change the table height. If all he's doing is poking a hole through a piece of steel he'll be fine.

2 Questions maybe more if I think of something 1. Why do you use Imperial measurements instead of Metric 2. Are you going to bolt this machine to the floor
@simcoespring
@simcoespring Год назад
we use imperial measurements for about 80-85% of the stuff we use because of the USA where most of the parts are made and engineered. Heck I could do a whole video on why metric is only on the surface and not really real when it comes to automotive. I think my personal favorite is the 1.062" diameter pin that has a 33.5mm thread pattern that goes into a bushing that is 1 3/8" in diameter and fits in a 4" wide leaf spring. that is 26.25 x 26.25" long but takes a 110mm x 24mm Ubolt on a 20,000lbs axle but the truck is rated to carry 24 tonne So ya, funny and confusing.
@dirtfarmer7472
@dirtfarmer7472 Год назад
@@simcoespring I’m from Oklahoma so I’ll just use the imperial although the metric is just $$$ & cents penny and 10 $$ bill that’s all it is Thank You Sir

this is so absurd, you bought it to drill holes, you should have just gotten a fancy drill press and saved the money, since all you're doing with this baby mill is drill holes. even so much as not having a need to strap anything to the table.
