I have a Sonor Designer set from 97, and they look almost exactly like this (except for the finish). I can attest to the quality of these drums. They have endured heavy gigging with temperatures ranging from minus 25 degrees celcius to plus 35, (living in the north of Norway), and the shells are 100% perfect to this day. Also the drums look almost new - that´s how good the lacquer and chrome is. If the SQ2´s is as great sounding and durable as the Designer series it´s well worth the investment.
They are beautiful. I haven't followed Sonor for long. But after watching them build a few drum kits in Germany at the Sonor company. It's a matter of pride for all who work on those drums. They use a lot of hands on and old school tools. These drums are a work of art. They are one of the few drum company's that actually still build thier own drum shells. I think only a hand full still left that I know of. I wish I could afford the SQ2. I could justify paying the money. Maybe one of these days.
I used to love Sonor drums... but these days at least in America, they have gone to the dogs! No marketing over here and no one takes them serious anymore, here.
They could definitely try a little more to be more available over here but they still sound (and look) better than any other brand of drums I’ve ever heard
Sonor drums are taken very serious in the USA. "Gone to the dogs!"? Can you elaborate? They are the ultimate wet dream of half the drummers over there. Marketing might suck, but Sonor is still one of the most talked about and respected drum companies in the world, including the USA.
