Unclogging A Culvert Pipe Responsible For Multiple Properties Flooding!

Today we found the reason for much of the flooding occurring on one of the properties we are working on as well as the neighboring properties. Apparently, a beaver came in and decided to engineer a little dam right on top of a 12-inch culvert pipe. But this isn't what surprises me... Why would the engineers install such a small pipe for such a large amount of water? Should have had the beavers design the culvert instead of those other guys. But either way, we were able to unclog the culvert pipe for the most part and we saw results instantly. Within 1 hour the water level dropped several inches and kept up the pace. If the beaver doesn't come back then this area should be drained out and the property owners should be at rest.

I'm glad you enjoyed it :) I really liked how I got to expierence something new here. It was very strange at first and I didn't know what to think. But once I unclogged the pipe and saw how it started changing then I realized its actually very cool. The next couple of days I saw how the water level dropped in lots of areas and that was really cool to see. Beavers don't use foam. They don't even re-use sticks if you pull them out and leave them on the bank. They always use brand new stuff that they chew off themselves. The foam probably just floated down and got stuck due to the current
@golovinpropertyservices
@golovinpropertyservices 2 года назад
Well I’m not sure how the foam got there, but it seems that it was incorporated into the structure after a while
@az8405

@michaelheurkens4538
@michaelheurkens4538 2 года назад
Ya, you might want to find a pair of chest waders. Your clog was not caused by a beaver; muskrat possibly contributed, but there were no beaver "chews" - sticks chewed into proper length by a beaver and jammed in place. This is most likely just overgrowth and debris built up over time due to lack of maintenance. Don't be surprised to find plenty of living roots inside the culvert compounding the stubbornness of the clog. I have replaced impossible-to-clear culverts working for a county works department. Sometimes it is easier to jam a tree in the culvert and shove the debris through using a track hoe or other such machine if the clog is not too dense or long. You should, however, find and clear the discharge end first to give the upstream water and debris sucked through with the water somewhere to go when the clog is breached. This sounds more like a county responsibility unless it is on private land. Happy playing!

I've been considering a chest mount for the GoPro. I do own a head mount but I get a lot more mixed reviews on that, so the chest mount is still kind of a decision to be made. But thank you for recommending it :)

You really need a rake to drag out the debris. But enjoyed your video. Keep up the good work 👍👍

It’s taken lots of abuse since I’ve owned it, right now it’s got 1 missing leg, 1 bent leg, broken center piece and etc. Seems that I have to do an all around equipment upgrade now since everything is about to break apart😅

And you know why its so cool doing this, for me it takes me back to when i was a kid at Gramma's house in the country. Doing what your doing. After a big storm my brothers and i walked the country roads looking for plugged culverts, or plugging them up to watch it flood a field then unplug it again. Those were the days ,a little dangerous at times and scary, man i miss those days. M.

Get you a stick/pole and push it in the culvert to break the stuff loose

Looks like a natural build up to me ? But yes beavers will take advantage of us not keeping an eye on these
@golovinpropertyservices
@golovinpropertyservices 2 года назад
It looks like that, but it certainly isn't. I've got more videos, and even a followup video to this one where I have to remove another dam the beavers had built. But the neglect of maintenance allows for many different things to happen, in this case the beavers certainly took advantage.

I dunno if a beaver did that looks like just a bunch if debris built up over time.
@golovinpropertyservices
@golovinpropertyservices 3 года назад
It’s a beaver, it was built up multiple times and there are sticks and other debris that have evidence of beaver activity. I think they used this softer material because this dam by the culvert is used as a way to get around the railroad tracks. But I’m not sure.
