Let's review Undermine, a top down action roguelite that has a similar feel at times to the Binding of Isaac. It's a very progression heavy roguelite, which might make it not the best game for fans of more traditional roguelikes. Still, I really enjoyed playing undermine, so let's do a deep dive into the game.

Great review man. I would however just say that the "not for everyone" tag could apply to just about every Rougelike or game for that matter that I know. Lol

@@ZamWeazle Lol I mean I guess that's technically true for everything in life. But for roguelites specifically I've found grindiness or a large amount of vertical progression to be particularly polarizing so I often label that as "not for everyone" (with explanation of course).

Was really interested in this particular game from just its unique visual style and the overall flow of gameplay. So happy that I found someone who went in depth with it and answered quenstion I didn't even think of! You just earned a new subscriber and keep up the great work. :D

I remember asking for you to cover this game so thank you! Great review as usual. I played a couple of hours of the game and, even in that short time span, I would agree that the lack of moveset variety immediately curtails the longevity of the game. If they added items or starting loadouts that mixed up the moves more drastically, I could definitely see myself wanting to play again.

Thanks! Yeah I'd also come back if they added some items that drastically changed the moveset. Somebody else said that they were planning to add some in the next update, so guess we'll see

Isaac feels unbeatable at its own game at this point. Just so much variety I never truly tire of it. Personally, I like Isaac's unique theming and artstyle since it's so different. Maybe I'm just getting old but I'm finding that once a roguelike has perfected its niche I don't feel the need to try new ones. Spelunky, Isaac, Slay the Spire, and a few others have become go-tos. Still appreciate the review! You never know when something will break the mold

Yeah there are certainly a couple games that feel the best for their roguelite niche. Always love trying new games though and sometimes you find some nice surprises

Great review! It's worth noting that the game is far from finished, and there are updates in development. There is currently a beta in progress that introduces a new timed score attack mode that has a leaderboard, as well as a lot of balance changes and some new content too. It's something I've heavily enjoyed, and thus wholeheartedly recommend. In regards to your comments about moveset, a couple of the new relics in the beta introduce variations in the moveset, but I won't say what they are for the sake of not spoiling anything, or potential changes.

Oh, thanks for letting me know! I assumed it was completely finished. That's actually great if they're still updating the game and I'll have to keep up with it. The game has a great foundation and I think the variety issue I had with it is definitely fixable

Great vid, gotta agree with your points, I enjoyed my time with the game but personally not having a diverse move set ultimately made me stop playing, very fun tho.

Hey insert, i love your reviews, could you please tell me what kind of mic you are using? And recording software if you use any? I'm using a good mic but can't seem to make good recordings with it.

Thanks! I use a Blue Yeti X (which is marginally better than the normal yeti), Blue Voice for voice processing as I record (e.g. de-essing), and audacity (free) for the actual audio editing which for me is mostly editing out verbal mess ups or occasional harsh sounds. Honestly, after I found the settings that I liked with Blue Voice, I do very minimal post recording processing in terms of improving audio quality. I also do some sound proofing of my desk where I record (i.e. put towels behind my mic) to reduce echo and background sounds.

Whaaaat~? You don't like the style of Isaac, where there are guts rolling around the walls, eyes bouncing from wall to wall or lumps of flesh hoping around? I don't know how you could say that you don't like the style... /s Good video though. Thought about buying it and now I know that it isn't something for me.
