Have you ever wondered why servicing your watch is so important, or how frequently you should have your watch serviced? There are many reasons as to why having your watch serviced regularly is crucial to it's health, but today Michael is just focusing on teaching about water resistance and how it can affect your watch. He'll explain some of the best practices for keeping your watch safe, the symptoms of a damaged watch, and some tests you can experiment with on your own if you're concerned about water damage. The episode includes the various types of test watches go through, the intensity of the tests, and the different tests used for any watch versus dive watches. Check out this episode, and hopefully you'll avoid ever having to send in your watch for anything other than regular service!

Correction, when testing for condensation I had mentioned that it may last for up to an hour when I should have said up to 1 Minute. Carry on!

Nicely done MM as usual. How bout the best manual watch you like to work on and would wear. Yes, let's get back to the old days and a great ole manual wind. 👍

Great vid. But would have been great to mention pressurised water from a faucet or shower can be tricky - as explained on watch science shows

Sinn has amazing diving watch technology with their capsule technology as well as oil filled cases on the UX line. If I was a serious diver I think they are the brand I would trust.

Thank you! The Speedmaster is rated to 50bar I believe. Can I go to the pool with it?

What about the use of a watch into hot water? How far would it be okay? Does quartz watches can deal better with heated water?

What about hot tubs? I once had condensation under the crystal of my Hamilton Khaki King (50m resistance, non-screw in crown) after getting out of a hot tub.
@michaelmichaels471

ryanhayn that is caused by temperature change, I never ever recommend taking a timepiece in or around hot tubs or sauna.

I think a hot tub is like kryptonite to a mechanical watch buddy.

Great video,thanks! It could have been even more interesting if you have told us what the water resistance exactly mean?For example can we swim with a 50m resistance AP or Patek or is it just good to wash our hands and we need a 100m watch to do that?etc... Another example:my Omega Speedmaster 60th anniversary « trilogy » is 60m water résistant but the crown is not screwed because of the manual winding movement,so can I swim with it????I guess no but it is not really clear because of the 60m resistance! I hope you’ll understand what I mean,sorry for my bad English.

The video fails to explain what ratings like 50m (5bar) practically mean. Intead I learned that I am in "vacuum situation" while swimming. Was this a student failing his homework? When do we get to meet the teacher?

Thanks for the feedback outofordersince1977 - we've got more in depth episodes planned for season 2, which drops in min-September. Hope some of them will hit the mark for you. Did you see any of the other Classroom videos? What did you think? --Team WatchBox
